FF VII Disc 3 MISPRINT?!

Alright.

This has taken on an entire new level. I guess as per a lot of the suggestions, i'll try to sell it in the weeks to come.

I'll get a better video made, too, because i'm sure people bidding on the auction would like some more solid proof than just digital camera recording.

How would I report something like this to Joystiq and Kotaku? And what other sites would be worthwhile?

They should all have a spot where you can email them tips to stories. Just email them a link to your video.

Give CheapyD a PM too, we can get it on our front page.

This is pretty wild man. Be sure to keep us informed on any updates. I'd love to watch the Ebay auction when you do finally put it up.

Would this really be worth money? I could perhaps see it having some value if the situation was reversed--a spongebob game that actually contained FFVII data. But why the fuck would anyone pay for a spongebob psx game?

Just a tip, but when you make your video, show the inputs of the TV and follow the cord coming from the the ps2. If legit, this is a really cool find.

Good luck with the auction, this could have huge potential on ebay.

You don't know collectors. Any type of misprint in a collectable item causes the value of the item to go up. The defect makes the item unique and therefore much harder to come by. This would be like the equivalent of a misprinted version of a coin whose original version is sought after in the first place.

Yeah, what Whamm said. I've heard there's a small number of comics which get the cover printed on both sides of the cover sheet, opposed to an ad or something on the back, and those printings automatically increase way more in value than the normal issues, even if they aren't significant issues otherwise.

Think of how few of these there probably are in the world - and it's a legit disc that runs on an un-modded system. Someone will think it's so cool that it's worth a lot of money.

Not that my opinion matters but this is totally legit. Khysanth called me earlier today and I was actually the one who suggested posting it here. It was a pretty funny phone call. We're going to video tape it with a better camera later in the week, so expect as indisputable video as possible.

Will try and get it on major gaming blogs. It's a really crazy mixup....and i hope he shares the profits....
Here's how you do a video to prove this. Show you putting in the game, like you did with this video. Let Spongebob load up, then move the camera up like you did.

Then, WHILE STILL SHOWING SPONGEBOB ON SCREEN, move the camera to show you pulling the FF7 disc out.

no lighting change
I agree with this. I don't think this is fake, but you should do this to make a better video, and to prove this is 100% legit.
i'm pretty sure it's fake.

if anyone else noticed on the disc, the number was just "3". after looking at some of the other final fantasies that I own on the ps1, they all say "disc #"

so, if it was a legitamate copy of FFVII, shouldn't it say "disc #" instead of just the number?
My non-GH FFVII just says "3"
alas.....no spongbob :(

It is some mess up right there. Man I wish I had that copy of the game. I guarentee that would go for 200 bucks on ebay at least with all of the discs included. Maybe even more if you get Kotaku and such tp put this up.

But it is kinda weird that it was a game that hadn't even come out at the time it was printed but oh well even more profit.

Quick update:

My friend (Ginsburger) came over with a real video-camera tonight and we tried to get a good video taken where nothing could have been doctored. He goes home tomorrow and should have it up in a day or two, but it is out of my hands at this time.

Once it's up, i'll make an auction and try to get it posted on the front of CAG, Joystiq, Kotaku and Destructoid.

This would make a decent prank/novelty gift if something like this were mass produced. Imagine buying a friend a multi disk bestseller game they never played before, for their birthday and then having them get to the final disk only to find Ponyz: American Quarter Horse Edition on the screen.
This is going on Internetgamers.org
Cool! I appreciate the publicity and will update the thread again as soon as we have the auction and new video up.
This 'goof' wasn't worthy of my readint this thread.
This 'post' wasn't worthy of my readint your shitty comment.

So, is your new video ready yet? Hopefully you kept the FFVII disc on the screen the whole time from when it was in front of the camera to when it was inserted into the Playstation (which you didn't do in your first video).

I can't even begin to fathom why the OP would fake this. But I guess this is the internets after all. I'm curious to see what ebays for.

I was just going to suggest this.

The disc leaving the frame (and that there is a big brightness change when it does) will be the first thing to make people scream fake.

I wonder how many people holding on to sealed GH copies have this exact misprint too...
Somehow I doubt a single disc would get printed this way.

That's pretty neat. The best I have is a Mickey Mouse Pez dispenser in my Pez collection that has a three-eye flaw.

If you can end up profiting from this mistake, by all means, go ahead! What an intriguing story.
