Found 500 French Francs - what to do with it?

Hey everyone,

I was cleaning out the grandparents house and I found a smal little pouch tucked in a dresser with 500 French Francs bill in it.

I know France has been on the Euro for a long time, so I was wondering what can I do with it?

Some currency converter calcs I checked out had it being worth like 100 dollars. I don't know if that is true though.

Also I can't tell how old it is. I can't find a date. It looks at least 40 years old. Could be from WW2 with my grandfather? Would that make it worth more?

Any help or helpful links would be great.

Call your bank or find a major bank in your area and see if they can do currency exchanges. Not all banks do, especially small satelite banks or smaller independant banks but largers ones can.

If your bank cant ask them to point you in the direction of one that can.
 
I'd do more to see if it happens to be a rare, older printing or something along those lines.

Although I don't know if paper money appreciates in the same way that oddball coins sometimes do.

Before taking into a bank take them to money collectors!

There are some collectors that value the bills that have happened during important events .. if you believe that those Francs were used during WW2, then take it to a collector and more importantly take it to 3 different money collector in order to max out your sale

Yes - I saw some rather crap-tastic sales online now that I've looked. But then looking at the exchange rate on some sites it is worth about 100 bucks? I go to a BoA that I know does currency exchange (picked up Yen and recently Euros there) so I assume they would exchange it. Why would someone sell it for 50 when the exchange rate is 100? Are older bills not acceptable?

Maybe I should just put it in a little piece of plastic and save it. Maye someone will appreciate it in another 35 years when it is more than a 100 years old?
