Well, it is coming up on that time of year again. The year is almost over and almost all of the major game releases have already come out.

But one question still remains, what was your game of the year?

I could only include 9 games in the poll, there was no way I could have put in every good game that came out this year, so I could only pick some of the games I think might be most popular. If your GOTY isn't on the list, please vote for "Other" let's us know what it was!

For me it was a tough decision between MGS4 and Gears of War 2. But in the end, I had to give it to MGS4 for it's amazing story and beautiful graphics. Even though, Gears 2 has amazing multiplayer, and will certainly be in my 360 for a long time to come.

So, I will say it again, what was your GOTY?

I'll have to wait a long time to vote since I still have a lot of 2008 games I'd like to get around to and won't until well into next year.

Currently Gears of War 2 gets the nod, but I haven't played a lot of 2008 releases. Off the top of my head just that, Ninja Gaiden 2, GTAIV and Soul Calibur IV. NG2 and GTAIV weren't my cup of tea. SCIV was pretty good but I just can't get into fighting games.

Oh, and there's Castlevania OoE on the DS which I'm liking ok, but not as much as most of the prior Metroidvania games (at least 4-5 hours into it anyway) so it's not a GoY contender for me.

But I still need to play Dead Space, Fable II and Fallout 3 (and probably a few others) before casting a vote.

Ok Ok , I know Cheapy and Wombat didn't care for it ,but I loved Grand Theft Auto 4.....story was great, graphics, gameplay, everything. now this is just my opinion but Im not a fan of gears and fable was ok and to be honest I didn't play MGS4 (Own it ,but have not played it yet) so GTA 4 is my pick.

At this moment, I would probably say Fallout 3, or maybe Smash Brothers Brawl. However, I will reserve my judgement until I play Persona 4

I would just like to add that I am huge moron.

I forgot add in three HUGE games. GTAIV, Rock Band 2 and SSBB in the poll.

Unfortunately I don't think I can edit these in. I am really sorry for this inconvenience. Maybe a mod could help?
No P4? :nottalking:
Sorry Mox... as it is we are missing three huge games, and there is no more space in the poll.

Nice.

It's a tough one. Gotta be between MGS4, Gears 2, and PoP for me.

Damn you and your being able to see unedited posts! ;)

I haven't played a single one of those games. Did Lost Odyssey come out this year? If so, that's my GotY. If not, GTA IV I guess even though I didn't play enough of that to really be able to rate it. From what I saw it was fun though.

As for handheld, the only 2008 game (I think) I played was Castlevania, which is awesome.

I just saw it before you edited it.

And I guess I should add Lost Odyssey to my list as well.
Knights of the Old Republic.

I went back and beat it twice more. I think that brings me to... five runs in total.
I still have you beat at at least 8+ full playthroughs...

I am going to go with Burnout Paradise, not only is it boatloads of fun, the amount of free content to support it is ridiculous, and I think they should therefore be recognized.

Kinda sad that half of those seem like the same damn game (STEALTHILY SHOOT x IN FACE). No puzzles, no mmorpgs, no sports, no indie/vc/arcade/network download titles, nothing from any of the portables, one 'family' title all by its lonesome...

Man, 2008 sucked ass unless you're HARDCORE. :/

For me, tough call between Gears 2 and Fable 2. Gears 2 is an unbelievably good game. Gameplay, graphics, emotions, you name it. But, I played Fable 2 for a long time and I loved every second of it.

Right now my Game of the Year is Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) with Fallout 3 (PC) and Tales of Vesperia (360) behind it. Those are the only games I felt I couldn't put down once running through it and left me with the best overall impressions once I beat them.

Going through Prince of Persia and Persona 4 right now though. After that I should have a copy of Dead Space to try, but it's not really my type of game so I seriously doubt it would come close to a Game of the Year contender for me.

I'm leaning towards Rock Band 2. They essentially have made the perfect party game and since I just about always have people over here at my rental house it's great.

I haven't finished Fallout 3 yet, but it hasn't wowed me like FO1 and FO2 did back when I was younger.

Fallout 3 for me.

Left 4 Dead close second.

Mother 3 is high on that list too.

Had it been on the list I would have chosen Valkyria Chronicles. It just blows everything else away in my mind.

Off the list though I picked MGS4.

Right now it's a close call between MGS4, Fallout 3, and Soul Calibur 4 for me. If I had to pick one it'd probably be Metal Gear. There's a long list of games I still want to get to that came out this year, though.

Rock Band 2.

Playing Guitar Hero: World Tour made me appreciate and realize how close to perfection they've gotten everything in Rock Band 2 (backwards compatability, the interface, song selection, animation, DLC, etc.). That and got to meet a member from Harmonix for one of my friend's Rock Band nights so all the more love to them. So yeah, BRING ON ROCK BAND 3!

Other then that, close second is Fallout 3.

Why are we having a GOTY poll before the end of the year, let alone before the VGA's, which are even less credible? And why Call of Duty? It's campaign is much less impactful than COD4's in almost every way.

I'd say remove GTAIV and replace it with a TWEWY or a Burnout Paradise

I give Fallout 3 the nod. However, I still have not played Dead Space or Prince of Persia. I sincerely doubt either will sway my opinion, though, especially after what I heard and read about both titles.

Fallout 3 is eaily my GotY. The game sucked my life away for a good week before I could put it down. The world was so incredibly immersive and the atmosphere was just amazing.

And an honorable mention to Yakuza 2.
Wait a minute. That actually came out this year? How the hell did that slip by me?

This is an awful list.

The fact that COD:WaW proves it's awfulness.

And Dead Space, while very enjoyable, is nowhere near GOTY material.

My personal GOTY so far is GTAIV. It was an amazing game, and the online play was fun as well. What's amazing is that I've put in time into this, and still haven't beaten it (have over 50 hours invested). Though, in fairness, I haven't played many of the listed games, and probably won't until at least next year (maybe the year after).

Heck, won't even play Bioshock until this Christmas, so I can't speak much for GOTY 2007 yet.

I voted Prince of Persia, but really it's a tie between that and Dead Space for me.
(haven't played MGS4 yet)

Handheld GOTY is easily TWEWY.

Fallout 3 : So fucking addictive, such a well-done post-apocalyptic atmosphere, so many interesting little sidequests to do. My only complaint would probably revolve around the partners that you can pick up during the game being retarded. I told Dogmeat to wait at my house, he decided to wander off to the Vault. Some follower that I picked up was fighting her way through the ruins with me only to vanish somewhere along the way. I later got a message informing me that she had died.

MGS4 for me. If i had a 360 though I think I would have LOVED Fable 2.

I may have to edit my post when I start to get some time with Persona 4.

My Faves:
GTA4
Mirror's Edge
Resistance 2

Honorable Mention:

Dark Sector
Dead Space
The Bourne Conspiracy
LittleBigPlanet

Voted for MGS4.
Fallout 3 was awesome but overall MGS4 was a better experience.

Edit: Dead Space was great but doesn't deserve to be up there with the rest. It should be GTA 4 in that spot. IMO
