Just got this email. Sounds pretty good to me!

GameFly is excited to announce that we have launched our FastReturn™ service to your area! FastReturn™ in partnership with the U.S. Postal Service is designed to improve shipping times for GameFly subscribers. What do you have to do? Nothing. It's that simple.

Does FastReturn™ apply to me? Depending on your local Post Office, FastReturn™ may not result on every item returned.

NOTE: In order for this system to function properly, the game being returned must have been delivered to a customer after they were added to FastReturn. Of course, your local post office must actually scan the returned game.

Kool Blockbuster Online does the same thing, Hopefully this means games will stop dissapearing now...never lost a movie with BB now I can safely sign up again, Thanx OP

Hmm, I wonder if this will vastly improve turnaround time. I unsubscribed to GameFly specifically because it took nearly a week to send one game in and receive another, and was quickly not worth it.

I'll let you know...I just returned a game yesterday and I can see in my account that its making use of the FastReturn feature. Lets see when my game comes.

Good to see it actaully works in the real world. I have trouble getting the USPS to scan my e/DC bar codes if I don't have them highlighted in green... (And I'm talking at the destination PO, not at the originating PO.) So I was skeptical if this would really be worthwhile or not.

So what are the areas that benefit from this? I'm in Massachusetts and GameFly is painfully slow for me.

isnt it out in all areas it just certain games have the bar code.. i just dropped one game in the mail today lets see how long it takes

what this means is your post office might be too freaking lazy to scan the items

Well, my game shipped approximately 24 hours after I dropped off my return into a mailbox. I would say FastReturn is pretty sweet!

I will folllow up with GF to find out if they have a list of areas where this service is available/expected to be available soon.

I got that FastReturn email about two-three weeks ago and while its a little faster I guess, it still takes forever to get anything. The last game I rented took eight days to get to me (California-Florida). What they need to do is open up a shipping center on the east coast too. Oh well, at least they are trying something.
This makes those free trials much more practical.
Try GameFly free for 7 minutes! Enough time to open the container and repackage the game to send it back out! Amazing!

What FastReturn amounts to is a gimmick to get around the fact that Gamefly doesn't have any East Coast distribution centers. Even if the system works pefectly (and Gamefly immediately credits you as having returned a game each time you drop one off at the post office), you still have to wait severals days more than you should have to (on the East Coast anyway) to receive your new game because Gamefly doesn't have any distribution centers here.

My post office doesn't even scan the DC's half the time, and they didn't do my Blockbuster ones (didn't even know it had this) so I doubt they would scan the Gamefly ones. So I guess I'll hold off of this until they open another shipping center.

So I emailed Gamefly a couple of days ago asking if FastReturn was available in my area, thinking that if it was I would subscribe. I haven't heard from them yet. It seems like 48+ hours is plenty to get a response to a simple question like that. Is this pretty representative of their customer service generally? If so, I will rent from someone else.

i dropped my game in the mail Weds they got it today 2 days going for cali to indy. My next game dont ship till weds though cause i have nothing in my lineup before the Maki (or whatever its called) kingdome.

So, just to update, I dropped my game in a mailbox on Tuesday and received the next item in my Q on Saturday. Not bad at all.

Is there a trick to getting the Post Office to scan the envelopes? I've returned 2 games since getting the email notifying me of FastReturn, but neither got scanned at the PO. The 1 week turnaround is going to make me cancel soon if this FR feature doesn't work.

Would it work if I put a post-it note on the envelope asking the post office to scan it?

Did you already have those games before FastReturn was implemented or did they ship from GF afterwards? If its the former, its not going to work.

Good point - one I got before, the one I dropped two days ago I got after the FR notice and I think it would have been scanned by now. I'll give them a couple more games chance to make good with this feature. I love everything about GameFly EXCEPT the turnaround, but that's a pretty big thing.

UPDATE - I just looked at my account on the GameFly site and the game I plopped in the mail on Monday morning just showed up as being scanned by the PO and my next title is on it's way. I'm guessing this got scanned at a midway point and not at my local PO.

Sooo, FastReturn worked, but it took 4 business days to get scanned? I'll probably get the game on Monday, which means 7 day turnaround, which is about the average cycle I've been getting without this feature. I thought this was supposed to make it faster?

I'll give them a couple more games to get this right, otherwise I may have to cancel.

Its all about your Post Office and if/when they scan the envelope as they are supposed to be doing. I guess you could always bring the game to counter instead of dropping it in a mail box. At least then you would know its being scanned.

I'm starting to believe FastReturn is a scam.

There have been about 3 occasions where my online queue shows a Fast Return happened and my next game is "in process". Then when I go back the next day and check if it shipped, the Fast Return is gone and the in process game is back in the queue as if it never happened. WTF!!!!!

I sent customer service an email, we'll see what they say about it.

The cynic in me says they manipulate fast return to make your cycles longer if they feel they need to make more money off of you.

No, see I actually tried in two different locations (Post Offices) to return the game in person over the counter, and I asked if they have FastReturn feature. Both local Post Offices in my area never heard of FastReturn and asked me to place my mail in the blue box outside of their branch. I was made out to sound like I was trying to hold up the line or something, and after 10 minutes of waiting in line, I had to go outside of the Post Office and plop my game in a blue-box.
So, i never know if its being scanned and my email to customer service only had a reply thinking I'm stupid for not knowing what FastReturn was and just retold me, that the entire service was automatic. My question to them was to get a list of locations thta has this feature. Btw, it had taken a full 7 days for them to reply to my email. It seems GameFly has a fetish over the number 7 since just about everything takes 7 days.

gamefly wont tell you what post office have it or not cause the ones that do, will sometimes fast return then while other times they wont.

Im shocked that gamefly called me last night (after all the games taking 7 days to get to me)

they told me its a problem with their shipping department and it could take up to 6 months before shipping times come back down. They offered me a free Week LOL
