All Steam Origin Uplay DRM Free

[There are currently no known available vouchers, credits, promos, codes, etc. that can be manually applied to purchases.]

Note: Be sure to check DRM prior to purchase. It will typically be listed to the right of the description, just above the System Requirements. There are several instances where games may vary in DRM type even within the same bundle. You have been warned.

Daily Deal
75% off Sword of the Stars: The Pit (DRM Free; can be activated on Steam) - $2.50
That's sweet that GG has it DRM-FREE version + also can be activated on Steam.

Only thing is - there's some DLC's on Steam-version that GG don't even sell.

The Pilgrim DLC (just got released in April 18th) is NOT in the Regular or Gold Edition.

[Side notes: The Pilgrim DLC actually requires Gold Edition.

And, I have SOTS: The Pit - Gold Edition on Steam.]

I don't know if you could say take a complete copy of your Steam-version; rename your CEG-laced DRM EXE (as a back-up, in case this doesn't work); and just copy the DRM-FREE EXE over into the folder - and see if it'd actually work. No clue - I don't own a DRM-FREE version of it.

SOTS: The Pit Steam-version does FORCE Steam to boot, if you try and execute ThePit.exe from the actual game folder (while Steam's closed). So, it uses CEG on Steam-version.

Why would anyone ever care to even do that......

It's only available on Steam at this moment. I was reading tales of the snide anger of GOG lovers in the Kerberos forums.

Gold DLC, not specifically the Gold Edition. The Gold DLC requires Mind Games so, basically the same, but clarification for people who have bought it piecemeal.

If you want to run the game DRM-FREE, of course.

Since Steam-version here has more DLC than every other version - so if you have a DRM-FREE EXE version and it actually works when in the Steam-folder - you've got it going DRM-FREE! Why not give it a shot? Worst that can happen - it just won't work! Oh well.

In this case - you already paid for both DRM-FREE and Steam-versions - so, why not give it a shot? What the hell do you have to lose?

{Shrug}

I pretty much did the same "EXE-plastering" trick for Beyond Divinity from GreenMan (Capsule), just to avoid the EXE from forcing a client-program (Capsule) on me. Why? The install of BD from Retail discs includes StarForce DRM files. GreenMan's download DOES NOT include StarForce - and it's easier to deal w/ that download-version since it's all patched-up (Version 1.49); and comes as one set of files (opposed to say 2 CD's from Retail). So, I do already have a patched-up version of BD from retail, which has a DRM-FREE EXE (thanks to Patch 1.49) - so it doesn't do any StarForce checks. So, I renamed the Capsule-version's EXE; and plastered the DRM-FREE EXE in there - and voila, don't gotta deal w/ Capsule! :D

Oh, I know - this is all hypothetical stuff, but here we go for other reasons why you'd want to try this:

Steam goes out of business and they officially do NOT patch CEG out of their service.

(probably won't happen for a LONG time, the way Valve and Steam are going - but, you never know).

Or say someone doesn't unofficially crack the DRM.

Say offline-mode doesn't work properly for you.

Say Steam client-program doesn't work on much more modern OS's.

If Kerberos does plan to bring that Pilgrim DLC to GOG and Gamersgate (who both have the original game DRM-FREE), then I don't see what the big problem will be for them (DRM-FREE version owners).

Otherwise, they'll have to deal w/ this issue somehow - whether buying another version to get the DLC's or just not worry about the DLC.

They could buy Steam-version with every single DLC; and hope to God they can try to take the DRM-FREE EXE and see if it'll work w/ the Steam-version.

Double-dipping sucks (i.e. re-buying games/re-releases) - but, in this modern era, it happens a lot...especially given how DLC and re-releases are often (poorly) priced.

Thanks for the extra info on Gold DLC and Gold Edition, BTW. Good to know - and good for clarification purposes.

meh, nothing to get excited about. I've seen better prices on these before. Even now, Uplay cuts the price in half. I wish I could easily see how much I paid for my copies of 3 GOTY and NV Ultimate...must have been dirt cheap because I havent started either lol

That's pretty much the motto of when we look at prices on GG normally, anyways. ;)

But, it's always good to be kept up-to-date on deals - b/c it does give us a good idea of how the market is going for PC games. Always good to see a deal posted, even if the deal sucks or isn't as good as it's been before.

Guys on CAG in general - and especially Neuro5i5, in this particular thread - do a great job of keeping us "in the know" on deals.

welcome to gamersgate fac sukker

Hah, yeah I guess I don't have much experience with GG. But for the record I wasn't implying that this shouldnt have been posted merely because there's a better deal elsewhere. A sale's a sale, I suppose.

It's so cute how hard GG is trying to ape a sale that has by and large already fallen into the realm of irrelevance (the major Steam sales, that is).

Heads-up on Section 8 (part of the Digital Tribe sale). It uses GFWL and has no plans of having it patched out, so buy at your own risk.

Also, FINALLY, a Sega sale. Just not at GMG.. what to do, what to do.

I'm on the fence on Castle of Illusion, and I want to be pushed over. Is it fun? Do I need anything besides the 60fps mod?

Castle of Illusion - unlock Illusion Breaker - £0.10
Castle of Illusion - unlock Superbounce - £0.25

No idea about the soon-to-be-defunct multiplayer but the SP campaign is no great shakes. I played it as part of my A-Z Backlog thingie and it failed to impress.

S is for Section 8: I was hoping this sci-fi shooter would have me running around in a dress and pearls, Corporal Maxwell Klinger style, but nope -- I had to wear boring ole power armor. I mean, it had cool jump jets and lets you sprint real fast but it's no JC Penny's collection shipped over from stateside. Section 8 is a first person shooter which is really built around a multiplayer dynamic except there's no active servers going and it runs off GFWL which is closing down anyway. I played part of the single player campaign and found it pretty bland. You're part of a squad, someone barks orders at you to secure this terminal or that missile silo, you do it, a voice like a female college intern congratulates you, you get attacked, etc. None of the weapons felt like anything much to me: the missile launcher was unimpressive and the shotgun I tried was laughably weak. All the enemies have shields (that I noticed anyway) so killing them was a a matter of holding your assault rifle fire on them while they jumped around to wear down their shields, then finishing them off. No skilled one-hit headshots here. The story was dull even by FPS campaign standards; some dude went rogue, killed one of my buddies... I dunno... something-something. Oh, and I killed a robot/power armor boss dude with terrible AI and manged to wedge a tank between a couple pylons and had to abandon it. No dresses though.

Damn it GG, why can't you put all your shitty shit up for sale at the same time?

There's more "sales" to add, but I'm not typing it up until I'm in front of a computer later today.
