I remember I bought some PC games at a KB Toys outlet in Texas a good 20 years ago now? Phantom of the Opera, Gazillionaire, and a really great football game that I can't remember. In giant boxes. I never shopped EB or Gamestop too much for PC games since I always found them to be too expensive. I might have bought Stubbs the Zombie there though. I used to do Circuit City for PC games before they closed. It's where I bought Ubersoldier.
I shopped EVERYWHERE for games. I always was looking & shopping for the best deals, back then. I never played much politics of where I bought retail-box games from, back in the days.

I bought Stubbs from Steam - since I couldn't find the damn thing anywhere at Retail.

Oh, yeah - I bought a lot from Circuit City and Best Buy, back when they actually had a great PC gaming selection and constantly were having sales on them. Both of those stores got lots of $ from me, back in the day. Another store I liked was CompUSA - but I didn't buy nearly as much from them as I did Best Buy and CC; their prices were often nowhere as good as Best Buy or CC's.

EDIT:

I remember when I bought the original NWN from Gogamer not too long after it 1st came out - and it was in a HUGE retail box.

I think my best PC/boxed copy purchase wasn't from a retail store. I used some free Listia points (or w/e they're called, I don't use that site anymore) to win a used copy of Silent Hill 2.. which is fairly valuable now. I paid around $4 for shipping IIRC.

Now that I remember, I think I bought that one and Silent HIll 4 from CompUSA. The box for 2 is huge.

Gonna go to Egghead Software and check out that Wolfenstein 3D demo I've been hearing about.
I used to buy shareware from Staples. They came in like cardboard envelopes with the floppies in them.

I got a PC retail copy of SH2.

I think I might've bought that from Amazon, actually. Not 100% sure on that.

I have SH4 PC in a retail box, as well. Pretty sure that came from Gogamer.

Every now and then, I'd buy some PC games from Staples + Office Max, back in the day.

Does anyone here want to pick up that pack for me with their 20% oops discount? (In exchange for $4 Paypal or Amazon.com credit.)

This is aimed at those of you who often complain about having nothing to spend their BC on.

I can do this for you. y u naut on steam

Almost three years ago a lot of us paid ~$7 for it and were thrilled... (and it's not like those games have really aged any further)
between the length of those games and the quality...i was more than happy to plop down the 25 or so dollars i did on gog in august (got all the games in this pack in addition to Neverwinter 1 + 2)

Had I known they go on sale for five bucks like all the freaking time i obviously would've waited, but yeah

I just realized - I've actually got enough blue coins that I've built-up over the years, if I do decide I want this D&D Master Pack for $4.99...

just do it

how often does something come up on gamersgate that (without the 20 percent discount) you actually want to buy anyway?

Nod. I'm really amused that this GG sale is the day after GOG's D&D bundle. Schadenfreude baby!

Yeah, I'm not saying it's foolproof and I don't know why some low price errors continue to get through. But the "Video Game is $4.99 -- 82% off $28.30!" goofiness (later corrected to $4.99 -- 75% off $20) started after the last winter sale so that seems to be what's going on.

Or, you know... GamersGate. :?: :whistle2:k :?:
Remember, this is the time of year for Gamersgate's Annual Holiday Orgy.

My guess is that the football game was from Sierria's Front Page Sports Football Pro series. It truly was amazing. It tracked stats that other games in its time didn't, it had career mode, players aged and retired. (or where retired with career ending injuries.) Seriously, it trumped everything on the market in its day and age.

I'm pretty sure I have gotten all the D&D games in question at retail... Software Etc and Babbage's come to mind... At least for BG and Tales of the Swords Coast. I think they all would have been "gone" by release dates of the other games.

The other problem is - I know sometime down the line, I'd probably end-up buying BG1: Enhanced + BG2: Enhanced - meaning, if I bought from GG and then bought the EE editions later on, I'd have actually bought the BG series NUMEROUS times!
Honestly? Not seeing the problem...

;)

I'm still trying very hard to not let it bother me. I can take solace in that GOG makes sure their games work, and I still paid like $2 for each D&D game I bought.
For what you're getting the price difference isn't all that much, and the GOG purchases come with active support. Also you get the various feelies (soundtracks/art/etc). GG is cheaper, but GOG is a safer option.

You get the "Trusty Mutsi Post of the Day" award for cheering me up.

Would you like getting triple-dipped upon?

That's more or less, what I'm looking at here.

BG1 & BG2 + TOB & IWD1 + HOW + IWD2 = own from retail.

Buying this Monster D&D Pack from GG = own all of that AGAIN (2x's).

Buying BG1 Enhanced + BG2 Enhanced = buying BG series for a THIRD time!

And worst of all - who the hell knows when I'm actually touch any of these games again! BG1 + BG2 + TOB are a freaking long haul & a marathon and a 1/2. I never played BG1: TotSC, so I guess that might make playing BG1 again worth my while. I dunno.

I still do owe it to myself to one day go back and tackle IWD1 + HOW + IDW 2 + TOEE. Games for years, that I've set aside - b/c I wind-up buying other NEW stuff.

Pfft, I own Fallout 1 & 2 from PC retail, Mac retail, GOG, & Steam. ...I know, I know, I really *should* play them.
I have Fallout 2 from Retail + GOG (FREE).

I have Fallout 1 + Tactics from GOG only.

I have Fallout 3 retail box CE from Retail; and FO3 GOTY from Steam.

I have Fallout: NV + ALL DLC on Steam.

I think Divine Divinity still is the game that I own the most copies of - have it from Retail; GameStop PC App; and also GOG (FREE!).

FO1+2 are both great - yeah, you really should play them.

LAME!  $10 WRC3, Uplay has, right now (and last week) WRC3 for $7.50... so even with my GG 20% off and 5% BC means Uplay still beats it.

Uplay 75% off = $7.50

GG    75% off = $10
