any idea if this is actually going to be "limited" or if its just like the other gamestop exclusive collector's editions?
preordering = of the devil
I generally agree, but this late in the game (25 days to release) GS isn't going to earn much on that $5 reserve.

For $69.99 you could do worse. This is a pretty sweet set up. As for limited, I believe it won't be Final Fantasy limited, I don't think they will be that many considering the demand. This preorder reminds me alot of the metal gear 3 sub. glad I got in on that. I would preorder this one if you want it. I believe the demand will be high enough to snatch these up.

Buying a game from Gamestop/EB and Pre-ordering a game is something that I don't like to and would be caught dead doing, but with a game like Bioshock, I'm doing everything I can to secure my LE copy for the 21st.

You see part of the reason why I hate Gamestop is that I don't like the way they handle their sales, I mean you buy a new game, and they take out the opened game case, and stick in the disk and manuals from a ziplock bag. I wanted New!I know that won't be in the case of pre-ordering(which they give you the sealed package straight from the shipment boxes).
I also despise pre-ordering becuase theres always good deals around! Rememeber the free Gears facplate with the purchase of GoW from CC? Or how about the free Halo 2 Strategy guide with the purchase of Halo 2 from Target? Free Halo 3 Faceplate with Crackdown at CC? Whats the point of pre-ordering it at a store like Gamestop that has no deals or freebies, when all you have to do is go to the other store and get it there with the freebies?
However in the case of Bioshock LE, which is sold exclusivley at GS, I had to put it behind me and get it there, becuase you can't simply find it anywhere else

Go buy it, pre-order it if you can. I think that was the only case in which I felt good giving the cashier my $5 for pre-order
This LE is average at best imo. Do people really listen to the soundtrack cds or are you just collectors?
I enjoy the extras like the making of DVD's. It's always worth the extra $10, IMHO, but of course I want to become a game developer. And the figurine is excellent. So far, all of my Xbox 360 games are some kind of Limited/Collector's edition (mostly thanks to deals here). So why break the streak now? :p

I will pre-order in store this weekend after I find out if I can return Guitar Hero or not.

Ribkage... "average at best" You are crazy. List some games that give you more for your $10. My friend bought ninja gaiden sigma and it came with High res packaging and a throwaway dvd.
Very nice LE imo. If you think it is lacking you evidently haven't seen the garbage CE, LE, SE that are being made now.
Seriously? Gamestop does that? Man, I had no idea. No way I'm preordering all of that sweet stuff now.
For games that you actually pre-order, they take the Sealed game straight from their shipment boxes and give it to you "fresh" when you pay the rest
For games that you actually pre-order, they take the Sealed game straight from their shipment boxes and give it to you "fresh" when you pay the rest
I had no idea. omgwtf.

I was really into getting only the LEs of games that had them, but the inability to place them with all the other games in a DVD tower plus the relative useleness (to me) of the extras, coupled with cheaper prices for the regular editions (i.e. Liongames specials) has made me rethink my buying trends. Now if they just had a slipcase and then a regular DVD case within the box or something, that'd be reason to rethink again. I wish they'd do that instead.
I really wanted this but the Lionsgames $40 regular version was just to tempting.
Same here.

But this is one of the better LE releases.

I had this one pre-ordered as soon as it was in their system, which was a couple months ago. One of the cooler LE's in recent memory, IMHO.
So you can't pre-order on the site for in-store pickup? That sucks.
seconded

although i already have it preordered from lion games, i might get this and sell my other copy

I can't believe Oasisboy and Chitown or whatever that asshat's name is isn't thread crapping. Oh wait, it isn't a Wii thread. CheapyD, you lost credibility letting this thread stay. ;)
any idea if this is actually going to be "limited" or if its just like the other gamestop exclusive collector's editions?
Anything with a figure probably is limited to a certain extent, although I have a GS around here with a gutted .hack//GU premium edition still sitting behind the glass.

Stranglehold PS3 CE. Hard Boiled on blu-ray FTW! ;)

But seriously, I'd drop the extra $10 on this set in a heartbeat...if that's all it was. But I'm also getting it for $40 from Lion Games, and there's no way the extras are worth another $30.

Since the game is being made by the same folks that made System Shock 2, I would've preordered the special edition even if all it was was a slip cover and some new cover art (Hi, Splinter Cell: Double Agent). And since there's a lot of awesome goodies in the set, it just makes it even sweeter.

I totally agree. In my typical game-obsessed fashion, I pre-ordered this LE from Gamestop for a grand total of $75 shipped. Then a fellow CAG mentioned in a separate thread that the Lion Games deal ($45 shipped) was $30 cheaper, which is almost another game.

This really made me think - were these extras worth an extra $30? Hell no. Quite the opposite, actually...it's just more stuff I don't need, more crap to worry about when I move in 2 months, $30 better spent on another game.

But that said, gotta agree, this is a pretty sweet LE. :applause:

Yeah, I *HATE* that. I have to say "new, sealed" anymore with them. I feel weird doing it, but if I'm buying new, I want NEW. I will not buy their pre-opened games.

Seems like if there's only one copy left, it's always opened. You get a beat up case, with all the insides just sitting in a drawer.

Regarding this limited edition...for $10? No thanks. Bioshock is my most anticipated game in years, but I just don't care about those extras.

I don't have it preordered either, because I still don't know what system to buy it for. The 360 is insanely loud, and that may or may not ever be fixed. I don't want to try to enjoy something like this on the current model (not to mention...would I be able to play it 10 years from now?)

The Windows version doesn't have those issues, though I need to upgrade my system. Hopefully a Playstation 3 version wouldn't either...but is one actually coming? So...yeah, no idea what to do.

I pre-ordered the LE as soon as I heard about it. And to be honest I'm getting it mostly for the Big Daddy figure.

I preordered this a while back and just lost my job a few weeks ago. The main reason i even want another job so soon is to buy this next month. Here's hoping Gametap is interested in me!

And yeah, iv'e finally decided to start getting a little more frugal and not buy every CE just because has something but this is an exception IMO. Because the soundtrack is incredibly interesting, and the art book will have art styles that i'm quite interested in.

And since i'm passing on the Halo and GTA CE i figure what the hell.

does it come with all this stuff? mostly i want the cloth poster. and maybe the stickers. it'll be $30 more than the bioshock i preordered from liongames and i'll get it 4-6 days later, so i really gotta make sure i want it.

Check Gamestop or a few posts up as it's been posted a few times what's in the LE.

that picture is also on the gamestop site, it's just to small to tell what's in it if you don't have the large version. and i did read every post.

That's such a load of horse-sh*t!

I manage a GameStop and we don't do that, nor do any of the EB's or other GameStop's in my area. The only game I open when we get them, is ONE singular copy of the new releases I get so I can put them up on the various walls, the rest are kept behind my counter, still sealed, and waiting to be purchased.

Sorry, but I know for a fact that multiple copies do get opened up. The three stores I have worked at over the years, some big name games like Zelda, Final Fantasy and Madden get multiple copies opened up and the cases go on the shelf. So, just because your store doesn't do it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. You should suggest getting display boxes like Toys R Us. I hate getting opened games I buy new. I also hate the fact that the employees can take home games and play them, then still sell them as new.

It's all just rubbish

As I stated, I manage a GS, my store is my DM's home store, none of the store's in our area open but one of the new games to put out on the shelf. If someone brings me that new game, I make sure to give them an unopened one (pending I have it of course).

We get display boxes for games that are on reserve, then we're made to take them down when the game comes out.

Don't mistake my posts as being Pro-GameStop...I, on the contrary, am not a big fan of them, but a job is a job. I'm merely pointing out some of the gross lies that are coming out at the head of someone who was admittedly Anti-EB/GS

Yep it must be your store then. All 4 of the GS's in my area ( Erie, PA ) do exactly what everyone says they are doing. They have 3-6 of a game gutted to put on display. Then they try to sell the said gutted copies for brand new price and they always give the line " They are brand new. We only used them for display".

I do my best to never shop at a GS. Besides that time I got mucho credit with the 50% extra trade in coupon :D

My Gamestop was actually good about the gutted copy of Burnout 3 I bought a while ago. They gave me 20% off...I think this should be a store policy or at least 10% off.

Also, I preordered Bioshock LE today and I realized that this will be the first game in like a year I will pay full price for. Depending on the exclusions for the trade 2 DS/PSP games get a bonus $10 deal though, I might actually trade in some games for credit (which I NEVER do unless I'm getting the better end of the deal)

I agree.

Why can't EB/Gamestop acknowledge when they sell a gutted copy that they're selling a display/demo copy to the customer? My sister got the 10 or 20% off thing for buying a slightly wrinkled, new and sealed copy of Karaoke Revolution: American Idol, but when she goes to buy a gutted copy of Cooking Mama, they don't discount it?

I put down a pre-order today for the LE. I never buy a game from GameStop unless it is for a GS exclusive like FFXII: CE and if I have enough credit to pay for it in full (since buying with credit means no tax).

Count me as another that has been given an open/gutted copy as new. What a joke. Gave it back and went somewhere else. Even had to run through it with the moronic employee about how it isn't new if it's open. It isn't like Target, WM, TRU, and a half dozen other stores don't have a zillion copies release week.

fuck em.

It happened with:

Halo 2: Collector's Edition
Prey
Doom 3

And when ever I go to browse games, I always see them do the same exact sh*t to their other customers. It may not happen in your local store, but here in Orlando Florida, all of my 4 local Gamestops does the same exact procedure. Trust me, nothing's worse than having a long complaining conversation on the definition of a new sealed game
