For Gamestop it is. Game stores dont make much profit on New games. over 90% of their profit comes from Preorders and Used games. The less they order of a new game, the more people feel like they have to preorder games in advance, thus giving Gamestop tons of $5 preorders. think about how much those $5 preorders add up to and it is easy to see why Gamestop pushes preorders and under order products. The less amount of New games they have to keep instore waiting to sell because a lot of people who really wanted to buy a particular game already spent $5 ahead of time.
Plus Gamestop also expects a large number of preordered games to come back and be traded in to sell again at a almost new price.
It may not be right, but it is logical.
First off, thanks for taking the time and actually reading and understanding my post. Your reply is the first legit one yet.
I know most stores don't make much money off of any kind of media; CD, games and moves because the mark-up on that stuff sucks. And I understand the whole pre-order money to earn interest idea. That makes enough sense.
But...still. If you don't pre-order, you can't get it on day 1. But you can get it the next day or a couple days later on their next shipment? WTF is the difference? That's what I'm asking. They KNOW people are going to buy the damn game, it's just a matter of when. Certain games don't sell as well as others obviously, so in those instances I can understand why they order only a certain quanitity. I just hate how they act like every game is some kind of rare commodity, but then sells the game by the assload when their next shipment arrives. It' just dumb. Customers want to give them money....but they won't take it. That's the illogical part.
