4/4 Update

Thanks to (radio edit) for supplying us with the lists and prices. He also confirmed that the free wired 360 guitar promotion IS still valid with the purchase of Guitar Hero Aerosmith!

The lists were previously posted on GameStop.com at the following address. More than likely, when the sale does go live, this is where we will find the pricing.

http://www.gamestop.com/gs/landing/gamedays09/

And here is a scan of the 10% off coupon that was in this month's Game Informer. Thanks to xycury! Coupon is in the spoiler.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Is this sale for new or used games?
A: New games only. In the past, there have been B2G1 sales on used items associated with Game Days, so keep an eye out for that.

Q: Will all of the games be "gutted" or opened?
A: YMMV. Some stores I have been to basically open everything up and dump it into the bins. Others will only open a few copies and leave the rest behind the counter. If you want a sealed copy, make sure to ask.

Q: Is this in-store or online?
A: Both.

Q: Will the store accept a print-out of the 10% off coupon?
A: YMMV.

Q: Does the coupon work for one item or the whole purchase?
A: It works on all Game Days items bought in a purchase.

Q: Is there going to be a B2G1 on used games and accessories?
A: As previously mentioned, there could possibly be one later, but as of now, nope. There is only a B2G1 on used PS2 games when you buy a new PS2 system.
Does anyone know if you order online are games always sealed if they're new? I bought a gutted FF2 today and would prefer a sealed one...
95% of the time I would say yes, although I did have two orders where they sent me gutted games. I called and they replaced them at no cost and told me to keep the gutted versions which is one of the few times I had good customer service from Gamestop.
my gamestop had 5 copies of VC all gutted. All games were gutted. They claimed that the boss wanted them to do so because they would know how many games were left....rite..
2 copies of chrono trigger for DS. got one VC and one CT. not bad deals...still felt weird without me ripping the seal off myself..didnt like that....
One of my local ones has a particularly large counter, so their approach was to toss a gutted case for each individual title into the bin at the front of the store while keeping all of the other copies behind the counter, within reach, nice and sealed.

They had the extra room to spare, though, unlike a lot of other stores. I prefer that approach since the deal bin is always organized with minimal effort, sold-out titles can be removed in a flash without a worry, and otherwise everybody is happy with the arrangement!

But, once again, that all hinges upon whether or not you have extra room in the store. If not, you have to do what you have to do.

The gamestop that I bought VC and P3 at said the same thing.. But it didn't bother me that much this time, I guess because it was freshly gutted. But I really wish that they wouldn't do that to every copy...

Just checked and my order for VC and a couple PSN cards has been shipped out!

I placed my order Sunday around 1:13pm EST. Stacked the two coupon codes.

I also used ebates or something for an extra 3% back which should help with the tax they shouldn't have charged me (but did) on the PSN cards.

the thing that's so stupid about the whole "gutted games" is that it doesn't have to be done this way. There are so many options if they're so worried about theft, inventory, or whatever stupid excuse they have for having gutted games

This is just a question- so please don't anyone get upset. What is the difference if a ps3 game is gutted or not?

the fact that it is a blue ray disc makes the game very hard to scratch. For the most part, the only thing that you can really see are smudges.

Like I said, it's just a question so don't get pissed at me.

Got my copy of VC "gutted" and it looks brand new, granted I would rather have a new sealed copy, but who cares as long as the games plays.

because, its used. It isn't new, and you are paying new price for it. It wouldn't be an issue if you were paying used price for it, but you are paying a new price for a used game.

Gutted means that Gamestop takes their new games, removes the packaging/security seals, and then stores the disks behind the counter until you bring up the "gutted" ie open box up and then they put the new disk back in the package. Is something really new if it's open? That's your call. Personally, I hate it and never buy new games there unless it's a good deal. If it's the same price somewhere else, I'll buy i there. I mean, you never know, they could just as easily get a used game in that looks perfect and try to pass it off as new. I doubt many Gamestop's would do that, but what's to stop them?

nooooooooooooooo :bomb: we need to make a thread and sticky it with a Title of "Gamestop and Gutting". Then everyone can talk about it there.
Got my copy of VC "gutted" and it looks brand new, granted I would rather have a new sealed copy, but who cares as long as the games plays.
You hit the nail on the head there. On one hand, I understand the whole discussion about how these "new" games shouldn't be opened at all to be gutted, but on the other hand, these games are sitting out in large bins and are usually located near the doors. I don't blame GS for gutting these games to prevent theft. If the game plays fine and they accept returns if it doesn't, who cares? None of the stickers they put on the boxes are like those horrible USED stickers they put on the games that can't be removed.

Oh, and just because a game is open doesn't mean it's "used." There's a difference.

Went to the store today after my order got cancelled (i'm assuming I'm one of the first to use that coupon for this deal since I posted it here) and got V.C and told the guys about the deal I "thought" i had gotten online.

He said "OHHHH yeah we got an internal email about this saying that "Shitload of guys were calling in asking about it, which nipped it in the butt""

So to all you D Bags that called in thanks. Granted they probably would have caught it anyways, but seriously when you find a "glitch" like that you don't call in. It's like killing someone and calling the police station to ask if it was wrong.
Well, Good News:My new copy of VC shipped today!
Yup mine too I didn't use the glitch
VC shipped today (allegedly) - ordered an hour after the sale went live, WITHOUT the glitched code. However, this was only through the order history page and not via an e-mail. Just for reference.
My copy of VC has also shipped, I ordered it 3-5 after the sale went live and without the GLITCHED coupon. I also seemed to have not gotten the e-mail of it shipped but it says on the "Order history" as shipped.

Seriously, they'd make terrible criminals. No snitching, bitches.

My order for 4 games using the glitch was cancelled. Luckily I had a back up plan and had purchased the same games in a local Gamestop store with 10% off coupon. All games were still sealed in plastic. Also snagged a Guitar Hero Aerosmith with Explorer guitar for $10 to boot. Hurray for having a back-up plan!

That phrase was kinda cleaver the first time I saw it. After the 25h time of seeing it in threads the past couple of days, it's getting REALLY old.

Back on topic, my VC shipped today as well - no glitch used. Also did not get a shipping confirmation email, just checked GS.com for the status.

My glitched order besides Final Fantasy 1 and 2 says it got shipped. I don't know why. o_O

Edit: Maybe it has something to do with me making two orders... one of them not glitched?

Will they take a game back if I opened it while at the car and decided not to keep it? NO. So what they're doing is definitely sleazy. Thats why I try not to buy from them unless necessary. Thank god theres gamecrazy and play n trade.

I don't know why some of you act like this wasn't going to naturally happen. I mentioned this just a few posts after the original guy pointed out the glitch, and everyone jumped on the gravy train.

This was simply inevitable. Very few were going to get away with it...the vast majority would have their orders canceled. Hell...I even warned saying that after orders are canceled they'd most likely run out of VC online.

Here's hoping the ones that got canceled can find it B&M.

P.S. My GH: Aerosmith (PS3) and Devil May Cry Collection (PS2) just shipped today! (Only used SAVER coupon).
I really want VC, but my gamestop only has gutted copies, and I refuse to buy that crap.
Just PM at Best Buy. That is what I did on Sunday. Drove past GS at 10:15 AM and seen the crowd in front of Gamestop. Went into BB a few stores over and grabbed a sealed copy of VC, asked to cashier to PM with Gamestop. He said hold on went and checked on it, came back w/the manager to get an override for the PM. Took all of 5 minutes. :bouncy: Drove past the GS and the line had grown even longer, I looked down at my sealed copy of Valkyria Chronicles and smiled.:cool::cool::cool::cool:

Might go back during the week and get more games PM'd.

I used the glitch on two copies of VC and Phantasy Star Portable. All three are confirmed shipped on GS.com now. I'm finding it odd that they are selectively cancelling glitched orders.

Any chance Gamestop will knock the prices down further as the sale ends? The major stuff will be gone by the end of the first week. I imagine the rest will sit there until May waiting for unsuspecting customers to grab a copy of shovelware.

I bet just a very, very few orders snuck through with the glitch. It does seem odd the patterns seem to be VC+1 or 2 other small things.

As for gutting games-- try this sometime, buy a new shrinkwrapped game from GS (if you can find one ;) ). Walk outside, open shrinkwrap. Walk back in, and try to return your new game for a full refund, tell them it's brand new. Good luck with that. My issue with gutting is that manuals get scruched/folded, discs get dropped/scratched, etc... so it's not worth dealing with that for me... especially when you can almost always get better deals elsewhere. (and yes, I do avoid GS for 99% of purchases, just explaining what my personal issue is, not trying to argue.. if you're ok with the practice, fine. If you're not, don't buy at GS)

That said, of my 5 items, ONLY VC has shipped. Line Rider 2 stays on backorder, now joined by Namco Museum and Sonic Rush Adventure.. which weren't on backorder until the last couple of hours when I've checked...

They have done it in past sales but chances are anything you really would have wanted will be gone by that point. Plus add the fact that you could use the 10% off coupon on day one and there really was no reason to wait and chance it for me.

My online order of VC and 2 $20 PSN Cards was canceled.

Luckily, I bought a gutted copy. Otherwise, I'd be SOL. Time to remove the stickers!

I'm not disagreeing with you at all. It's BS.
This is just a question- so please don't anyone get upset. What is the difference if a ps3 game is gutted or not?

the fact that it is a blue ray disc makes the game very hard to scratch. For the most part, the only thing that you can really see are smudges.

Mine also looked like brand new. I am quite happy with it.

Here's the issue most people have with their opened "new" copies: it shouldn't be done. It's really that simple. There's no need for it. And if they refuse to buy/make display boxes, then open ONE copy. One copy. And at the very least, give a little discount when you sell it. There simply is zero reason why some stores need to open multiple copies of a game to make a display or open every, single copy of a copy game and dump the boxes into the Game Days' bins.

The other issue, of course, is that many of the games are being taken home at certain stores. Now, we're talking about used games. Sorry, but once the game and the manual have left the store and been used, the game is used. End of story. Sell it at whatever the used price is, and all associated promos or discounts should be applied (EDGE, coupons, etc.).

Personally, if I really want a game, and the GS two minutes from my house has an opened copy, I will sometimes take it, if it actually looks like-new. I'm not gonna drive 15 minutes and waste money on gas and tolls for shrinkwrap. If they try to hand me some beat up box and a bent manual, well, I'll pass.

If I personally told you the game you were buying from me is new but I took off the factory seal, would you be okay with paying the brand new price instead of the marked down price?

Went to my local gamestop (of which there are 9 in a 12 mile radius)
And asked about the GH aerosmith and guitar deal.
One dude was like What??
BUt the one guy who knows anything was like hell yes, grabbed everything rang it up, then the guy that as confused was so amazed at how cheap it was he went and bought 2.
I so wish I could have afforded 3-4. Great xmas presents

Even though I despise the practice of gutted games by Gamestop and agrees with anyone against such practice, we have to understand Gamestop will not stop gutting gamess. Half of Gamestop clientele is the under 21 y.o. set, whom money are given to them by parents. They are just happy to GET a game when a parent/grandparents/aunt/uncle decided to "treat" them to a game of their choice. If not that have a little p/t job where they can afford to buy these games from gamestop and other stores. They don't care how the case looks and long as the game plays, where they can play online or offline with buddies. Just mom or dad saying "yes" to an M rated game and they try to get it as quick and fast as possible without to much hassle.

You're exactly right. They aren't gonna stop, because most people who shop there don't care. For every person that balks at the idea, there are ten that buy the game without even thinking twice.

And this is one simple example why society, as a whole...fails.
I really want VC, but my gamestop only has gutted copies, and I refuse to buy that crap.
Yeah, I went in today and they had two copies left, both gutted (all their stuff was gutted). The demo was really fun, but I'm like "$30, for basically used game?". I just couldn't do it.

Had a few other games, like Silent Hill: Origins that I would have considered, but of course same situation. Wasted trip all around :whistle2:/

I *hate* Gamestop's fetish with opening games and selling them as new. I would have gotten VC for $10 like that, MAYBE $20, but...
If I personally told you the game you were buying from me is new but I took off the factory seal, would you be okay with paying the brand new price instead of the marked down price?
to be perfectly honest, if i got to see the case and the game disc itself and saw that both of them looked brand new, then i would have no problem with it because i would be getting a brand new game, imo
Oh, and just because a game is open doesn't mean it's "used." There's a difference.
I agree with you as long is the disc isn't handled, but once the disc is handled the game is used. Most discs get scuffed and damaged in the process of handling them, not while being played (or "used") in the system - though some 360 owners may have something to say about that ;)

Anyway, as we are all now learning, Gamestop does not email it's customers when they cancel an order. Every time I've had an order cancelled by Gamestop in the past, I always had to find out about it by logging on to their website and checking the order status (usually after waiting a couple of weeks and not receiving the game). To me, it's a common courtesy to let your customer know their order is never going to be shipped, and GS's lack of doing it shows me just how much they suck as a company.

Oh, and to those of you asking about ordering backordered items on Gamestop.com and having them ship, it's never happened for me in the past. And guess what, they never let me know about it either.

They must really relish the title of "Worst Online Retailer." What is it, like 3 years in a row in the annual Cheapy Awards? To top it off, the customer service that slidecage experienced was outright nasty. He was not only lied to, but hung up on!
to be perfectly honest, if i got to see the case and the game disc itself and saw that both of them looked brand new, then i would have no problem with it because i would be getting a brand new game, imo
no, you would be getting a like-new game.

basically, a cheap imitation of a brand new game.
And this is one simple example why society, as a whole...fails.
Ugh. And if only this was the least of our problems! :D

It's gotten so I only buy stuff at Gamestop if I see it sealed behind the counter.

My stupid VC order went through even though I tried to cancel it (got it at local store + coupon). I'll offload the VC at cost (you cover PPal + shipping) if anyone wants a new one or I'll just return it to my local GS...
no, you would be getting a like-new game.

if no one played it, then its a brand new game... once it gets played then its used and can be considered "like new"
