4/26 Update

I have been informed that final clearance will begin 5/3. I should have information concerning titles and prices around 4/30. Stay tuned.

4/5 Update

Sale is live!

:wii: Wii
:ps2: PS2
:pc: PC
:ds: DS
:psp: PSP - UMD Movies

* Note: Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection is not part of this sale. It was apparently a mistake, one that has not been fixed. It's still listed on the site, but no discount has been applied to it.

4/4 Update

Thanks to (radio edit) for supplying us with the lists and prices. He also confirmed that the free wired 360 guitar promotion IS still valid with the purchase of Guitar Hero Aerosmith!

The lists were previously posted on GameStop.com at the following address. More than likely, when the sale does go live, this is where we will find the pricing.

http://www.gamestop.com/gs/landing/gamedays09/

And here is a scan of the 10% off coupon that was in this month's Game Informer. Thanks to xycury! Coupon is in the spoiler.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Is this sale for new or used games?
A: New games only. In the past, there have been B2G1 sales on used items associated with Game Days, so keep an eye out for that.

Q: Will all of the games be "gutted" or opened?
A: YMMV. Some stores I have been to basically open everything up and dump it into the bins. Others will only open a few copies and leave the rest behind the counter. If you want a sealed copy, make sure to ask.

Q: Is this in-store or online?
A: Both.

Q: Will the store accept a print-out of the 10% off coupon?
A: YMMV.

Q: Does the coupon work for one item or the whole purchase?
A: It works on all Game Days items bought in a purchase.

Q: Is there going to be a B2G1 on used games and accessories?
A: As previously mentioned, there could possibly be one later, but as of now, nope. There is only a B2G1 on used PS2 games when you buy a new PS2 system.

Seriously who gives a fuck if the game is opened. What the fuck are you going to do with an unopened game? Open it a play it maybe? I agree the stickers suck sometimes, but Jesus, its not that big of a deal.

If you don't want to buy the game because its "gutted" then don't buy it, no need to post your stupid opinion over and over. We get it GS sucks. Can I read about the deal now?
What is this glitch everyone keeps mentioning?! I must have missed it somewhere.
online code 5off60 took $5 off each game in your cart rather than $5 off 1 $60 game.
these are just GUTTED copies ... so why are people complaining again?

l
b/c they are gutted copies. It's the same as "open box" items. The difference is gamestop guts them, but offers no discount.

If gutted copies were %15 off I'd be all over it. But why get raped for full price for open box? That is just bending over for GS and taking it

This thread went from cool to hyper gay at light speed.

Seriously do we have to have a thread about gutting games and not gutting games?

We understand everyone hates it! It will not change! Can we get back on topic of people getting good deals and shit being all happy?

How about "how's everyone liking their games?"

It's a problem because in the process of opening the game they handle the game. And in the process of handling the game, the discs can get scratched. It's happened to me and it's happened to many other people.

Not to mention the stickers that don't come off easily, stickers on the artwork rather than the case, kids' fingers going from their mouths/noses to the "new" game cases, employee rental policy, etc.

I picked up 3 games last night and the 10% coupon applied to all 3 with no problems. I know some were having issues with this on Day 1, it appears to have corrected itself.

The blu-ray coating helps acutally for PS3 games, but in the past some gutted games I had to past over as it was scratched on the spot when I inspected them. Online is the way to go for this deal!

It would be simple if EB/GS would just listen to the customers once in awhile, there is no need to gut every single damn game... like others have mentioned use the wall copy and sticker the hell out of that if you want to and then have fun trying to peel them off later but only need one copy and as people request it or bring it up give them a sealed one....
They seem to think people need to see massive copies of Mario & sonic at the olymipic, etc in order to buy... The two games I purchased on sunday both had finger prints on them from the guy putting them into the case and the game days stickers came off just fine but the clear round one they put on to seal it left residue.....

So overall the practice of gutting the games is stupid especially when some people come in to buy them as gifts and such because giving someone an open game gets you looks lol.

But if anything its to keep the employee's busy and EB/GS way of striking back at the resellers..

in the future I guess it would be best to purchase the games beforehand, getting them before they are gutted then do price adjustments the next wk or next few days...

I actually did see sealed copies of Sonic Unleashed behind their case, while everything else is gutted..
Two part question: 1)Do people still play RE: Outbreak online, and 2)Can PS2 online games be played with a PS3?
1. I believe the Outbreak servers have been shut down.
2. As long as you have a backwards-compatible PS3, then I wouldn't see why not.

I can verify that the official servers for RE: Outbreak are down. I tried yesterday on a lark and despite letting you setup your network connection and everything, you won't be able to play the game.

It still works in single player but it is far from the best Resident Evil game. It's mostly interesting to see more bits of Raccoon City that weren't revealed in RE2-3.

Well some stores do have a good stock of sealed copies of some of these game seeing they had them sitting in stock sealed in normal inventory before any shipments of this gameday stuff.

If all you want to read about is the deal, the OP has done a pretty solid job of keeping the first post updated.

You are absolutely insane if you would drive to the store twice just to make sure your game hasn't been touched.

On topic: Is Namco Arcade worth it? I may stop by and pick this up.

I hope next time you guys that really care about getting sealed copies (like me) buy the games you want before the sale and then return/rebuy when the sale takes place, or alternatively maybe ask an employee to hold one for you. Gamestop is very predictable, it's not like they were going to magically change just for this sale. If you're going to buy from gamestop when they have good deals, you have to adapt if you want things your way.
What is the best way to peel off the stickers?
I bought two games yesterday, one sealed and the other gutted. I just pulled the stickers off of the gutted one, no special method, and they came right off without leaving behind any residue. If there is any residue, a little Goo Gone or lighter fluid should take care of it.
What is the best way to peel off the stickers?
Take it back to GS for a refund, go to Best Buy and have them PM. No you do not need a hard copy of the ad, they will check online to verify.

But the "buy only new" gamer is not who Gamestop targets anymore. The vast majority of their income is from used game sales and gutting is just a way of upping the odds that someone will come back and take a minimal trade-in amount and then accept another gutted game after paying more money for it in addition to the trade credit. Having only gutted games has a psychological effect on consumers that somehow only the game itself is important and condition is not really something to be concerned about. Obviously it works, just look at how many people in this thread are constantly arguing that gutting is not a big deal.

while that's not the best way to remove a sticker, it is a solid way to get the deal.

heat it slightly with an iron or hair dryer to loosen the glue, if it leaves a residue I have a bottle of something called goo gone, it removes the sticky residue pretty easily

Gutted is not really a big deal to me either seeing im buying them to play, my issue is your paying new prices ok so that disc should not have Joe Plums finger prints all over it... Granted a finger print does not hurt anything but its still principle.. If I want my game scratched or smudged with prints when its new let me do it once I paid for it lol its not a scratch and dent sale.. ha ha

Gamestop should sell Goo Gone at their registers in conjunction with this sale.

(Damn...I hope I didn't just give them a viable business idea. :whistle2:#)

Please, they pitch us pre-orders and EDGE cards. Do we really need another item they have to push on us? ;)

I just used the printed off coupon - didn't scan, but he entered it.

Picked up Chrono Trigger, Namco Museum Collection (360) and magically found a used copy of Soul Bubbles...

Good trip all around!

common-sense heads-up if you're using goo gone or hairdryer or whatever... take the paper insert out before you do these things. :applause:

Haha...I can see it now, some clueless GS cashier pitching a sale to an unsuspecting parent

GS Rep: "you wanna get a bottle of our special formulated adhesive remover, made for only the Gamestop Corp for $14.00 per 1oz bottle"
Parent: "Uuhhhmmm.noo"
GS Rep: "This super formulated adhesive remover dissolves that sticker on your new game case"
Parent: "But that is just goo-gone, they sell it at the .99 cent store"
GS Rep: "See their formula is nothing like ours, our formula will magically make the adhesive on the sticker dissolve magically into the case..no mess..no paper towels"
Parent: "Okay...I guess"
GS Rep: "you made a smart decision dude..I..I..I use it all the time on everything"

Yeah it would sell.

Well my glitched orders finally got cancelled. At least I got my two sealed Valkyria Chronicles in store before the glitch happened. That's all I really wanted at the pre-glitch price other than GH: Aerosmith + guitar, which I got, too.
Do you think they would sell half-empty bottles of it at full price?
No, but I bet they would open the bottles and dump them out into a big container behind the counter (for theft prevention) and then put a sticker on the empty bottle.
Do you think they would sell half-empty bottles of it at full price?
I think employees would get to rent the bottles overnight, but they'd still sell them as new once they threw a sticker on there.
Do you think they would sell half-empty bottles of it at full price?
Not half empty bottles, but 1oz bottles that are filled with goo-gone and a special Gamestop label.

Another complaint about gutting games is the occasional loss of the actual case. That happened to me yesterday. They found the disc but not the case, so I was given a generic case. Kinda sucks.

Someone really needs to start a blog that's a collection of bad analogies and analogy arguments, gaming related or otherwise. Maybe you'll get a book deal in a few years.
Please, they pitch us pre-orders and EDGE cards. Do we really need another item they have to push on us? ;)
Luckily, this doesn't really happen at the 2 Gamestops near me. The only time I heard it on Sunday was a sarcastic "I have to ask this" and a knowing smile when I said no.

Did I hurt your feeling or something talking about Gamestop? Bitch
Did I hurt your feeling or something talking about Gamestop? Bitch
Actually, I was quite sincere, so no, you didn't hurt my feelings. Many bloggers have gotten book deals from their blogs including mysogynist Tucker Max & the guy who runs stuffwhitepeoplelike.com.
my vc shipped (didnt use code, just saver) today

thanks again op and all!
Lucky. :D

Still verifying, ordered Sunday evening.

I wouldn't have bought that game. If I buy a game used from Gamestop, it has to be a nice case and has the manual, which also has to be in a good condition. Even if it's a game I really want.

Bought the last new copy of Valkyria Chronicles at nearby store. It was gutted, of course, but I don't mind stuff like that if I get a good deal on it. The stickers, thankfully, were rather easy to peel off.

Dropped by and picked up :psp:Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles, :psp:FF I, and :psp:FF II. I may go back for a Round 2 if my GC from e-Rewards comes in before the sale is up

As far as the gutting games argument...it has never bothered me. If they try to sell me a gutted game, I look at the disc and the manual, make sure nothing is scratched or missing and then I'm good to go. I am probably in the minority though, because I keep all of my manuals together apart from my games, and keep all of my games in media binders, so it is no big deal to me if the case has a sticker on it.

The cheap way to remove the game stop stickers is to very slowly pull from a corner and then it it starts to tear, try another corner. If you run out of corners, use isopropyl alcohol (try not to inhale too much).

Hey, now! 5OFF60 update!

I actually...finally...got an e-mail from GS concerning the cancellation of my glitch order. And guess what? They issued a $10 off coupon for my next purchase off their website. Sounds good to me! Obviously, not as good as the glitch, but hey, it's a nice change to see GS actually make up for their mistake.

Just got an email from Gamestop - saying:

Dear Valued Customer,

We regret to inform you that we had to cancel your recent order (#***********) due to an error with coupon code 5OFF60, which was intended to give a single $5 discount off a game $60 or more. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please accept the coupon code below which entitles you to $10 off a future GameStop.com order as our apology.
