Gamestop to stop taking in original Xbox game trades as of February 9th!

Thanks for the heads up. I went through the BC list, and found a handful of games I'd like to pick up before they are gone.

Went over to GS and grabbed 9 games I've wanted to get for a while for just under $50 after coupon and Edge. I've got everything I want from the BC 360 list other than Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, which my GS stores don't have. I'm not too sure where I'll find that, but we'll see.
and this is a deal how? thanks for telling us though, I am not trying to be mean but if you think about it, not really.
Just stfu and thank him for alerting the cag community.

GameCrazy's doing this too. The vast majority of games are now $4.99, and if the company does take them back on trade, it's no more than $1.. I think the only few exceptions that get more than $1 in trade are Halo 2.. and there was something really random, like Simpsons Hit and Run.
That's a surprise. EA doesn't even mention it on the Madden site.
I saw a review for it on Gamespot
here's hoping gamestop finally does a b1g1 on xbox games -- i'm actually done with my xbx collection at 95 titles but if they ever do a b1g1, there are a 4-6 games i wouldn't mind grabbing ;-)
Same here. Thought I was the only person with like 90+ BC xbox games! Might have to pick up a few for playa hating reasons.

"...like a alarm clock...wooo wooo..""

I collected most of the Xbox games I wanted last back in 2007 when they were running their first wave of Buy2Get1Free for Xbox games. About the only game I'm really missing is Prince of Persia: Two Thrones (which was $18 at the time) and maybe Stubb's and Raze's Hell. I wonder if I should try to pick up the obscure Jurassic Park Operation Genesis game to... Maybe I'll track down Steel Battalion, that behemoth controller and the expansion game.

Oh no, I have to start my search again!!!

Thanks for the heads up, but I guarantee if I had posted this it would have been removed from the DEALS board, since this isn't deal related.

I think Black and the first prince of persha game are the only OG xbox games I need.

Crappy Black has been like 20 bucks used forever. And no I won't get the XBL DL of black. I want a disk and am not willing to waste my HD space on the game.

Black was actually a $10 used deal of the week a few weeks ago; should have got it then.#-o
I am actually only looking for three to complete my collection of things I want for that system (for varying reasons)...

Aliens vs Predator: Extinction
Predator: Concrete Jungle
SW: Battlefront 2

Once I get those, I am done with my XBOX collection.
Wow, I've seen all of those at Hollywood Video over the past 2 months for $4. I even saw those Predator games for the PS2 as well.

Hell, I personally flipped over a half dozen of the SW:BF2 during that time.

Kinda wish I kept a copy now though.

I"m actually surprised this didn't happen earlier, too--even with the 360's weak BC track record.

This brings up another question: does anyone have a list of "must-have" Xbox exclusives? Aside from the obvious ones, are there any titles that have flown under the radar?

Io gave a perfect explanation as to why this was posted in the Deals forum, and also mentioned that it would eventually be moved to the Discussion area.

Had original Xbox but never played much on it. Started my collection this weekend with Jade Empire, KOTOR, and Deus Ex. Gonna try to find Riddick and whatever else I see in this thread.

Well, this week's coupon is 25% off of last-gen games, kind of ties into this deal...you could snag Black for $12ish or less.
I have one game I want for the system before I give up: Steel Battalion. With a 25% off coupon this week, and a gamestop withen 25 miles of me that should have it (Most likely going to be missing the controller like so many others ;-;), I am taking a check there Monday. I just have feeling gamestop will stop listing that online, and it will be impossible to find then.

People seem to forgetting that when GameStop starts pulling support for a certain piece of hardware, they start clearancing.

They're doing it with Game Boy and Game Boy Color right now. Only a matter of time before Xbox starts seeing normal discounts of 25 - 75% off. Happened with N64, PlayStation and Dreamcast. Once those hit 75% and could not sell any further, they destroyed what they had left.

So if anything, take this as an "upcoming deal" type of warning.

Interesting . . . MS really wrote off the Xbox as soon as the 360 was released which seems to have served them well as Sony held onto the PS2 too long. The cube seems to evoke a little more nostalgia.

Anyway I really refuse to set foot in a GS anyway . . . these fuckers sucked all the way back to Funcoland and killing EB Games (which was a little better) just topped off my hatred of them.

I didn't know it still had a listing. Plugged in my zip and nearest location is 41 miles away. Think this is one of those times where i'll call first.

That would explain why I noticed the shrinking Xbox section at GC when I went a few days before Christmas(most of them were in the 3 for $10 bin). Hopefully they'll continue taking them in after GS stops accepting them.
Same here. Thought I was the only person with like 90+ BC xbox games!
You're not the only one with a huge Xbox collection, I'm up to 102 games. Most of the multiplatform games are just due to being cheaper compared to their PS2 & GC counterparts.

Same with me. I've got 116 Xbox games, and I don't even know how it happened, haha. I think my total jumped by about 40 when GS had that (mistake) B1G1 coupon circulating last year. I was getting pretty decent games for $2-$7 a piece. That was ridiculous.

Hmmm

If GS slaps 75% used XB games and Microcenter brings back the 9 for extra 25 promo, I could be looking at hitting the jackpot again!!!

:bouncy:

My GS's Xbox collection isn't too small, but there's just a lot of stuff I don't really want. Seems that more XB titles were getting traded in this past weekend due to the Tiered offer ending, so this week may be pretty decent for XB finds...
Kind of sucks since I just got my Xbox. Due to this though, I think, I may use that deal to pick up Panzer Dragoon Orta.
Don't worry, you bought at a great time. You should be able to get just about anything for super cheap now. Hell, get a goozex account and just about every xbox game on there goes for nothing. I've built up a massive xbox collection since buying one this past summer, and I've paid very little for the whole thing.

Please don't tell me you're blaming the PS2 still being around for being the reason why the PS3's lagging. :\

If anything, keeping the PS2 around is the SMARTEST thing Sony's done.
Please don't tell me you're blaming the PS2 still being around for being the reason why the PS3's lagging. :\

Everything needs to be pushed to PS3 (and the PS3 version in 2008 started to outsell the PS2 version, for games like Guitar Hero, Madden, etc.). By MS moving to 360 (and killing of Xbox), it forced all developers to move over along with original Xbox owners.

As for the story, I'm not really surprised. I was thinking they stopped a while ago, but was surprised they weren't.

This is such sad news. I know it is an inevitable happening for any console but it is always a shame to see a system removed from "the list".

I'll have to agree. Even though it has somewhat divided the market, those people who are still using a PS2 probably wouldn't have gotten a PS3, and opted for the cheaper xbox or wii. The PS2 was in the lead last generation and the PS1 was still selling games and consoles up till about 2003 or so.

Yeah, I really don't think the PS2 has had much of an effect on the PS3's poor performance. As pointed out, the market for those two systems are completely different. If anything, it has probably helped drain some sales away from the Wii and the 360. Parents who are looking for a cheap system for their kids might opt for the PS2.

OK, with the demise of the tiered trade-in offer (which was probably your last chance to get any value out of original Xbox games from Gamestop) I moved this thread into the Deal Discussion area. The 25% off coupon is still valid through the 8th so if there's anything you want to buy that might not be around when they eventually, probably drop the prices then I'd suggest getting it this week.

Anybody think the used Xbox systems will go lower than $50. I know there was a coupon a while ago, but just wondering if they will get cheaper?

I'm wondering about this too. I didn't have an Xbox and just been playing the BC titles on my 360. There are a few games that aren't bc or have poor emulation on the 360 I would like to play. Hopefully they'll go down in price. I remember when Gamestop had PS1 and N64 consoles for $19.99 before they cleared out those games. I'd jump on a couple of $19.99 or $24.99 Xboxes.

This pisses me off.

I have a local mom & pop store here that still sells N64/PSX/NES/etc and makes a tidy profit. And they're not even a game store, they're a movie/music store. You'd think if it's a store specifically aimed towards gamers, they'd continue to carry everything.. Tragic.

Looks like GS loses another customer, and ebay gains some chump change.
Gamestop is stupid cause they are taking away XBOX Games, take away PC Games Instead
Some stores have taken away PC games. In fact, I believe that most stores except for the bigger ones have done away with PC games entirely with the exception being WoW.

Somehow this does not surprise me. Given how small most Gamestop stores are along with the average customer more concerned about them having whatever the latest thing is available... yep, XBox has to go.

Be careful though buying a used Xbox from them. People have had nothing but problems getting a fully working Xbox from them(search for a thread from last summer about $50 Xbox consoles).
