The only one I care about is Heavy Rain but I want to play through it again anyway since I dont lose the trophies already earned. SF4 I dont play online. Havent started Demon Souls yet.

One more thing. I have two accounts on my system, one for me and one for my son. Do I need to do anything about his account?

Don't forget to synch your trophies also. Just make sure you deactivate both psn accounts from the ps3. Other "locked" saves I found were Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo, Street Fighter II Hyper edition, Mercenaries 2 and Marvel vs Capcom 2.

Honestly, I like the look of the new ps3 and the sides still have the piano black finish. The "on" and "disc release" physical buttons like up white. It's completely silent and stays very cool.

I believe you can also do a full system backup to an external hard drive to keep everything on your PS3, including locked saves.

The only ways to get locked saves is either call Sony to unlock them or do a data transfer between two ps3's with an ethernet cable.

Did they have an official reasoning for why they did this? It seems kind of annoying to do this for only some games.
That's odd I have not had that problem at all. Did you try a different HDMI cable? If still having the same problem I would take it back to GS.
It's a well-known issue with the Slim PS3.

The HDCP on the fat PS3 is handled through hardware, the HDCP is handled through software. This causes some HDCP handshake issues with some displays and receivers, and the change was for a cost-cutting move.

Do a Internet search for "HDCP PS3 Slim" and you'll see some articles discussing this.

Not sure if this gets fixed in the revised PS3 slim / 2501A units, though it's certainly an issue with original PS3 slim / 2101A units.

quick question, what is the size of your tv? And how many hours did you run to test it?

pardon my ignorance but is HDCP also a way to connect PS3 to your HDTV like HDMI & Composite cables?

NVM I looked it up: so are you having this problem on 1080p or 720p or both and also is it on main menu only or while you play games?

It's not a problem I'm having, it's a problem the poster a number of posts above mine was having.

It's an issue with the slim PS3's HDCP, that it has the occasional issue with the occasional device. Usually updating the PS3 FW or the device's FW fixes the issue, though not always.
PHEW traded in my second not working PS3 for $200 bought on Craigslist for $50.

Whats the trick? Load a Bluray DVD in the slot.

When person goes to test it. The Bluray comes out Ooops I was just watching that the other day.

They load the Bluray movie it plays boom thats it.
I don't understand why the mods don't automatically ban people that come on here talking about out and out fraud.

Sure some of the stuff on here is questionable, but trading in a console that is known to not work that some guy is gonna buy, get it home and have it not work is flat out bullshit.

And it's not even the first time this guy has made a post about it in this very thread. He's very proud of himself and even instructs others how to steal $200 from Gamestop.

He has also talked about using the "towel trick" to trade in 2 broken Xbox's over in the 360 slim thread.
Any easy trick is to Pre-insert a Bluray DVD in the drive before you go to Gamestop.

When they power it up the Bluray Loads the movie or will eject.

Per the Gamestop training language and manual the employee sees the Drive working thats enough.

Or you say I was just watching a Bluray movie before coming.

Most likely your PS3 won't play games but Bluray movies still work then your are good to go this will fool the Gamestop people. 90% this will fool them

Unless your Disk drive is totally broken and won't even play movies. Then your chances go down to 50%.

Even then just load a DVD in there anyways to show them it works ejects movies etc.

And go big on the charm, and small talk distract them by saying you want to open and EDGE card and Pre-order 3 games. But tell the person doing the checking of the PS3 that. HE will stop his checks and do your pre-orders.
32 inch and so far four hours. The Handshake issues are not just with slims according to the US Sony Playstation forum some people have had the issue with the phats as well.

http://boardsus.playstation.com/t5/...CP-Handshakes-Tested-on-multiple/m-p/43650594

I will try to do more extensive tests today. By the way this is the tv I use.

LG 32LH30 32-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV, Gloss Black

I also have a 32 inch Toshiba Regeza 720p I will try to test as well.

Any word on whether or not they want an official controller when trading in or would a third party controller work? I don't want to do away with any of my official controllers but will do so if need be.

If I can trade in this Rocketfish controller instead of an official one, that'd be great..
which gamestop in NYC gave you $265?
I think this is a all nyc (maybe ny state?) deal during this promo. I asked two different Gamestops and that was the quoted trade value.

The backward compatible 80gb gets you $225 in credit.

Just looking to see what some of you experts think. I have a two year old 80gb Backwards compatible PS3 (the one from the Metal Gear Launch.) It has been working pretty good, however I have no PS2 games left, and never enjoyed playing them on the PS3 and it has been getting louder as of late.

I was just curious if you think that this would be a good deal to do. I am leaning towards doing it, as I would only be spending another $100 or $150 to get the 120gb Slim and warranty.

They give you $225 at all Gamestops for the backwards compatible?

Worked like a charm. Talked to a manager beforehand about doing a return and rebuy, and he said that it was ok.

Bought the slim
Went home, did a data transfer
Went back to the store
Returned the slim
Got credit for the Phat
Rebought with credit

It depends on which Gamestop you go to. I would call ahead of time to see if they would take your third party controller. The Gamestop that I went to said that it had to be a Sony brand controller.

FYI At the Gamestop that I went to, I had to wait 15 minutes because the clerk had to run a test to see if the fan would kick in after 15 minutes. First he asked me if anything was wrong with my system. He also checks the wi-fi, puts in a game, did not see him try a blu-ray movie, and hooks up power cable, A/V cable and USB cable to the controller.

After removing and reconnecting the HDMI cable and adjusting the "Display Settings" from the PS3 menu to the default settings, my new PS3 SLIM doesn't have the "blackout" issues any longer for two(2) days now and I hope it's fixed now.

My TV is a LG 42" HDTV(720P) Plasma, the HDMI cable is 1.3b, and the PS3 Slim is directly connected to my Denon AVR-1910 receiver if that matters by the way.

Whoa, I was debating whether to trade in the same model, but that clinches, heading down there Thursday.

finally unloaded my busted 60gb. got kinda raped by the $80 refurb fee, but the RSX in that thing is fucked. I'm just glad it's out of the house.

Traded my 80gig in yesterday for a slim in Westchester NY for the $200 being offered. IDK how you got $265 but its definitely not a state-wide promo.

The higher trade-in credit looks to be at least a NYC deal during this promo.

Did u trade in a vanilla 80gb or a backwards compatible 80gb?

For NYC, at least, the trade-in credit for a 60GB is $265 while the trade-in credit for a BC 80GB is $225.

I'm still on the fence if I want to trade-in my BC 80gb considering the emulation for PS2 games is not the greatest.

Damn, that sucks. Only $120? I got a 60GB with a dud disc drive.

yeah, I'm pretty sure they expected me to grab the system and leave when they told me how much they would give me. it's still more than I could get for it on eBay, so it's good enough for me.

actually, they tax the refurb fee too. ended up getting $115 for it.

What's the knock on the trade in price when missing the Sony A/v cables? Is it just the value of the cable or is the system considered incomplete and thus not eligible for the promo?

if the stores around here (just south of Baltimore, MD) are to be believed, they won't even take a system without everything. I'm sure that's just BS from these managers, but that's the only answer I could get out of several stores in the area. hopefully they're not such tightasses wherever you are.
Anyone want a limited edition metal gear gunmetal ps3 before I trade it in?
Those have to be worth more on EBay/Amazon that what Gamestop will give you right? Or is that wishful thinking? Were they BC? I can't remember.

I would think that was the dev's choice. There are 360 games with locked saves as well.

After playing Red Dead Redemption for six hours straight last night. I'm very happy to report not only was my slim only slightly warm to the touch, there was no sign of HDCP handshake issues.

Seems to be a New York only thing.

If it's the gun metal limited edition with BC I would try selling on CAG, ebay, Amazon, or Craigslist I would imagine it would fetch more there.

I got rid of a 2+ year old 40 GB that got hot when idling and was basically the "ugly duckling" of the ps3 family. I now have a silent, sleek, cool, 120 gig slim with a dualshock 3 and a one year warranty. I'm very happy with my purchase. :applause:

Question, is it a gift card you get or is it $200 cash?

Also, do you guys think its worth it to trade in an MGS4 80GB PS3 for the $200? Dont really know what to do here...thanks!

Traded my 60Gb today and picked up a slim. Started getting weird graphics in the games so I didnt want to risk it going YLOD. Gonna take forever to download all the PSN games again LOL.

When I traded in an Xbox 360 about a year ago, I didn't have the a/v cable, so they made me buy one off the shelf. They just deducted the price from what I got from the trade in. As always, YMMV.

Credit only for this deal and have you tried to post it on your local area Craigslist? Because that is the last version to have software backwards compatibility I think it would fetch more than 200. Another possibility is trading it on here, Amazon, or Ebay. I guess it depends how soon you were looking to get rid of the system.

Traded my fat today and got a slim. It was pretty funny the guy had to check the ID numbers and such on the PS3 so he was just slamming the thing on the counter like it was trash or a football or something. I just stood there like wow I hope whoever gets it that it still works. I will always remember the thud when it hit the counter. Goodbye fat 40

any ideas on how much to sell it for? im having a bitch of a time trying to sell this thing and make profit.

Profit? Good luck with that, I bought mine for $499.99 when they came out with Metal Gear and I would be more than happy to get $300 for it. I might have found me a buyer on Craigs, but if it falls through the $200 from GS will do.

Not looking for profit here, just as close to $300 as possible to but me a new slim!
