Additional Info:

Use coupon code 07FOURTH. This is valid for 30% off, up to a maximum of $30 through 23:59 PT June 29th, 2010. After that, coupon code is valid for 20% off through 11:59pm PT July 5th, 2010. Take care!
That works out to:
3 year product Care Plan $38.99
July 4th Sale!-$11.70
Estimated Tax: $0.00
Total$27.29

Add Accidental Spill, Drop, and other damage Protection for only $16.00 This works out to $28 for a 3 year warranty that will fully cover a YLOD (yellow light of death), harddrive failure, laser failure, etc etc. Their warranties give you the full purchase price back if it breaks and they don't fix it - otherwise they fix it.
any ideas on how much to sell it for? im having a bitch of a time trying to sell this thing and make profit.
I would try 320.00 on your local Craigslist (I tried 220 for my phat and I was getting no where). Another thing is you could add some extras if you have some you want to get rid of to sweeten the deal. It really depends on your area with Craigslist. A quick check on Amazon shows these used for 239.99 and up. Amazon takes 8 percent and 1.35 referral fee so that takes it down to around 219.xx you get for selling the system.

omg. i just shutdown my ps3 and it was bright pink in the xmb and bright pink when i shut it down. iv had it for almost 2 years and no problems but now im freakin out if it's an xmb thing, or just a random fluke or if it is bout to die. argh. i might trade in at gs for the 120 gig now, idk!

That's normal because my Slim 120Gb use to do that, then it went back to the normal color. What update do you have ie 3.15 or 3.40?
What's the knock on the trade in price when missing the Sony A/v cables? Is it just the value of the cable or is the system considered incomplete and thus not eligible for the promo?
when GS was doing a PS2 trade-in deal WAY BACK i was missing the AV cables. YMMV, i was able to just swap out the cables from the new PS2 i was picking up to complete the trade in on my old one. might work if youre trading in a fat for a slim.

That's just the color of the month. PS3's default color changes every month and you will see it at boot up regardless of what color or theme you have chosen.

Edit: Disregard, I did a Google search and learned that each hard drive created by the console is locked to that console. Stick it in any different PS3 console and it refuses to take the hard drive and force you to reformat it.

I have a 320GB drive in my 60GB launch model.

When I upgrade from a 60GB launch model to the slim model, will I be able to take that 320GB drive and just shove it in the slim model and be able to go back to playing with ZERO downtime, or will I have to do a "system transfer" because the two PS3 models are somewhat different?

Hey guys.

Traded in my 60 GB backwards compatible PS3. I did some self modding on it awhile back and replaced the power supply on it with that from the 40 GB model, voiding the warranty sticker, I also fucked up two of the screws trying to swap the 60 GB HD for a 320 GB. The cover thats on the top of the PS3 was a bit scratched up and the screw that held it in was messed up because of its shoddy construction in that area. The cover covers properly, but it's really REALLY easy to slide it off.

...The guy who did my trade-in took it in. Because the bottom line was it booted up fine and played games without any problems. They claimed the 60 GB Emotion Engine PS3s were in "high demand", but whatever. One of the employees even looked at the broken warranty sticker on the PS3, shrugged his shoulders, and just let me trade it in (it's a 60 GB PS3, so it's not like there's any warranty on it in the first place).

So anyone with an old PS3 with a broken warranty sticker (who did a little bit of "modifying" like me), go nuts. YMMV, I don't know. But I'm not the owner of a shiny new PS3 slim.

@ DC 43

Thanks for the tip, I'll try that out.

** Update: I took DC 43's advice, and sure enough they took the A/V cables from the Slim PS3, and considered as part of the trade in. **

Might offload my ps3 60 for a slim, or maybe just keep the credit from it and use it to buy games while I'm at Syracuse this year.
Also been mentioned in this thread a few times.
It's why I haven't been answering people's questions as much.

Just traded in my 2+ yr old 40 GB fatty for a 250 slim. It sounded like a vacuum cleaner and was freezing intermittently.

Went to gamestop, bought slim (confirmed a later return/rebuy with the clerk)
Transferred all data via data transfer utility (1.5 hrs for 35 GB)
Did full system format for fatty (2 hrs, 40 mins)
Took the receipt back with the fatty for the return/rebuy. Smooth process.

Clerk verified all components were there but did not power up the system to check its operation. He just asked me if it worked.....

I thought you could get more than $200 for a BC 60GB, but it appears people are just trading them in....I would like a slim since I got a new TV and the form factor would be nice.
ahhhhh. still debating whether i shold trade it in or not.... my phat is perfectly fine *knock on wood*
I am in the same boat, can't make up my mind. My ps3 hasn't really gave me any problems.

Mine worked perfectly fine too, and I just decided for a minimal upgrade, get the slim, it's quieter, stays cooler, has more memory, looks slick, and got a new warranty on it.

Just did it as well.

Traded:

PS3 60Gig
Burnout Paradise
Warhawk
Killzone 2
Socom:confrontation
guitar hero 5
Brutal Legend
Guitar Hero: Metallica
Rock Band: Beatles
Rock Band 2

with edge, I only had to pay tax for the new PS3. Worth it, considering I'll never come back to those games.

I was thinking of doing this tonight and getting rid of my extra PS3. I do have a question though, does Gamestop pricematch at all?

Just got back from GS

Base TIV
Madagascar Kartz 6.00
Blitz The League 2 7.00
Brutal Legend 5.00
Chaotic Shadow warriors 5.00
Shaun White Snowboarding 3.00
Still on the fence about trading in my loud 40gb.

looks like all the trade in promos are ending tomorrow, any clue what the next ones will be or if they'll extend them? I'm wondering if i should just go trade some stuff in with the 3/10 deal or wait

I was on the fence about trading my 80gb non/bc but I gave in and brought it in. My old ps3 didn't really show any problems at all and after playing around with the ps3 slim, I feel like the only thing I bought myself was peace of mind to know that I have a system under warranty for at least one more year. Whether or not that was worth $100 dollars is up for debate. Luckily it was all gamestop credit for me which I attained easily so it didn't really hurt me. Therefore if you have a phat system that has never given you a problem, never shown signs of overheating and you don't really use it too much, you might want to consider keeping your money in your pocket. I'm just saying!

for 265 I would have done it in a heartbeat. I mean I dont really care about ps2 backwards compatability. Once you go next gen, its hard going to the old graphics. How often do you really use the ps2 feature?
im still on the fence to trade my 60gb for the ps3 slim. $265 credit isnt bad tho
Wiat, they give $265 for a 60GB BC?
Actually this deal got extended to August 8th
Is this confirmed. Thinking about trading my PS3, but don't want to decide today.

This is kinda off topic but does anyone have an extra rubber foot (goes underneath warranty seal) for sale or donate?

I have a 60gb bc ps3 and the thing sounds like it's gonna ylod any day now.

Would it be worth it to keep it since I have the "other os" compatiblity? I don't know if it would be more valuable...

Wasn't "Other OS" capability removed from all phats with the last update?

Yep. Supposedly there is a lawsuit about the removal from the older fat units as well...
yes. info came out yesterday.

only in nyc
So, it is only NYC...is it like a certain store or something. I would almost think about getting rid of mine for $265....oh well.

I haven't updated my 60gb bc since they announced they were taking other os option out. I want to trade it in so I can deactivate the console...

Don't think it's necessary. I took mine in without the foot in place and they didn't ask any questions or even look at that part of the ps3.

Took advantage yesterday, and traded in my 60gb fat @ the Compton GS by the 91.

The chubby guy behind the counter was real helpful, and made the waiting process less tedious. The girl working behind the counter struck up a conversation with me regarding the Droid X, and asked whether she should upgrade to that phone or wait for a newer droid phone.

I talked about to her about androd vs iphone; and surprisingly, I hung in there and didn't get nervous... Maybe I should go back and get her number, if wasn't for the chubby dude helping me out with the trade in, I would've asked (sigh...)

Back to the deal, I paid around $130 after tax (stupid 9.75% sales tax rate), luckily I used up some GS credit from the 50% bonus promo. So as of today, I still have about $135 pending for Mafia 2/FIFA 11.

Thank you again CAG community, without this site, I would have overpaid on many items... Trying to spread the word to my buddies, but they come to me for deals on games (mainly due to this site)

I can't find anyone who wants to buy my mgs4 80gb bc ps3...should I just trade it in? Kinda nervous that it'll die since it's pretty old now. Any advice? Thanks a ton!

I have an 80 gb launch that I want to trade in. The problem is it doesn't read discs. How much do you think it would be worth?

They turned mine on to see if it would display video when I traded mine in. They never put a disc in. YMMV.
I have an older 80GB BC model..I'd hate to trade it in though because well...it's BC.
Same here man but I can't find anyone that wants to buy t. Ugh.

They go for quite a bit on eBay I think. You should get at least $300 for it.

They didn't have 80GB units at launch.

Maybe for a 60GB in great condition w/box.

You'll be lucky to get $200 (after fees) for a 80GB BC, unless its in mint condition.

I beg to differ. Look at the Motorstorm and MGS4 bundles on amazon, the cheapest there are 299 for one and 274.99 for the other. You won't lose that much on fees, maybe $15-20 total.
