Gaming Computer

um 2.8 p4 w/ 2gig (4x 512 ... i added 2 of the sticks after market) of ram a 160 gb hard drive w/ a radeon x600 256mb pcie graphics card, intigrated sound ('m not a sound person.. usually it's muted for teamspeak) w/ a 300 watt power supply running xp mediacenter with a TV tuner card (it's my tivo too). But i really want a new vid card and power supply i'm just too scared to upgrade it myself

this is an HP from office depot over a year and a half ago and was around 900$ w/ a 17 inch lcd monitor. I mean I know it's not great or anything but it is a year and a half old and all just need the vid card updated and it should be good for another couple of years... and pls remember this was a year and a half ago at the time it was a darn good deal

hubby has a amd something or other 2.8 equivilant w/ 2 gig ram 250 gb hard drive running media centerxp w/ a radeon integrated x200 crap graphics and integrated sound but his was only like 500 bucks w/ a 17 inch lcd monitor about a year ago.

refrence i can run eq 2 (except in a highly populated zone or a raid) on high settings, very high if it's an empty zone

hubby can only run it at low quality for the most part ballanced in the empty zones, but all he needs is a vid card and it would be much better.

I just recently upgraded most of my stuff in my comp to make it top notch.
  • AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Processor
  • Abit KN8-SLI mobo
  • Nvidia 6800 XT(100 bucks at the TigerDirect Store)
  • A gig of RAM
  • 250 GB SATA HD
That's it, I kept all the other stuff from my comp. All that probably cost like 400 bucks. It was totally worth it too. Runs Great!

That 6800XT isn't considered "top notch." Hell, a 6600GT has similar performance to that card.

Don't worry. My first PC which I had 4 yrs ago (not that long ago) was a P3 Intel 4GB HD and gawd knows what else. And get this, it included a modem! My screen was a 50 quadzillion year old.

My latest rig is actually 3 yrs old with parts updated every now and then.

Quantum Case w/LCD HDD/CPU/SYS temp & lock
Creative Labs Audigy LS
160G/300G/adding another 300G as soon as I stop being lazy (got in on that Fry's deal)
DVD-RW/CD-RW
5 in one card reader
1 Gig RAM (upgrading soon)
6800GT (replacing soon)
P4 Intel 2.6HT (replacing soon)
Wacom Tablet
Creative Labs I-Trigue 3300 2.1 (Highly recommend these)
HP f1905 19" LCD

Price is who knows what now. Definitely more expensive when I bought it, but price has fallen for a lot of stuff on that rig.

Upgrades are being held off right now because I just got myself my FIRST............ hold your breath.......................................... mac! Got myself a MacbookPro. And it was a pretty chunk of change. Also just about 4 months ago got myself an Inspiron 710m with lots of upgrades, so PC upgrades will have to hold off at the moment.

Case: CoolerMaster Centurion 5 $95
MotherBoard: ASUS K8V SE DELUXE K8T800 $115
PowerSupply: 480W ThermalTake $65
DVD Drive: DVD+/-RW PLEXTOR 16x $142
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+2.2GHz $225
Memory: 2046MB RAM Corsair XMS $190
Hard Drive: 150 GB WesternDigital Raptor $260
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT $388
Sound Card: SoundBlaster X-Fi Audio $120

Total Cost = $1600

Probubly a little bit more, but thats in the ballpark. FYI, I built this machine 2 years ago with some upgrades within the past few months.

Hey, as long as it does what you want it to, it's all good. A few years ago, I was happy enough to even have a computer. I could care less what it had in it. Of course, I became a PC gamer and that all changed, but for the time being it was all I needed.
