Gazelle.com

As the weeks have gone by, I have noticed discussion of Gazelle.com trade-in's within the Amazon Trade-in thread. I have decided to take it upon myself to create a thread solely for the purpose of discussing Gazelle.com and posting information pertaining to it.

This post will be updated to look.. spiffier with a full-fledged FAQ within a day or two, when I find the time.

For now, I'll list some basic information about Gazelle.com.

Credit Increases:

+5% Amazon Gift Card TIV: When trading in at Gazelle.com, if you choose Amazon Gift Card as your payment method, you will receive 5% more for your trade-in's.

Promotional Codes (entered during Checkout) ALL CODES ARE ONE-USE PER ACCOUNT, DO NOT STACK:

Flipping to Gazelle

Flipping refers to buying items at one place and trading in or selling them elsewhere at a profit (however, sometimes it is done to transfer credit from one place into credit at another or pure cash.)

FAQ

Q) What is Gazelle.com?

A) Gazelle.com is a site where one can trade in items ranging from Electronics to Video Games to Cell phones.

Q) Are there TIV's any good?

A) Some of their TIV's are -very- good, some are average and, like any other trade-in site or establishment, some trade-in values are poor.

However, from my experience and from the experience of other CAG members, I'd say the TIV's are above-average. Especially when one takes into account promotional codes or the +5% Amazon Gift Card TIV. To note, they seem to match Amazon.com's trade-in values on video games. However, they lag behind by around a day or two. So if a value plummets on Amazon, you can still lock it in at Gazelle.

Q) Is Gazelle.com a reliable place to trade-in games?

A) Many members of CAG have used Gazelle for trading in un-needed items and have had good experiences.

TIMING

Q) How long do I have to send in my items?
A) You have 30 days to get your item postmarked according to Gazelle. Don’t always wait because they won’t want to continue to offer 30 days if everyone takes that long & your post office may not want to send your stuff out.

Q) What happens if I send the item after 30 days?
A) You get the TIV as of that day.

Q) How long does it take to ship to Gazelle?
A) From West Coast up to 3-8+ days, usually about 6. From East Coast about the same, though frequently a day or two faster.

Q) How long does it take them to verify the item’s condition?
A) A few days, but can take longer.

Q) How long does it take to receive Paypal/AMZ credit email after item is approved?
A) Usually 1-4 days, but can take up to 10.

Q) I submitted a game but it did not show up on gazelle or email me...
A) It can take up to 24 hours for it to show up, but it's usually less than a minute.

SHIPPING

Q) Who pays to ship to Gazelle?
A) Gazelle pays.

Q) Do they give you a box?
A) If you want one but only for orders that have ~3-6 games (forget exact amount), they will mail you a priority mail box (but they give you parcel post label…). The box will arrive in ~3 days-1.5 weeks.

Q) Why did I get an email saying I’ll get a box when I did not request one?
A) When you delete games from a large order it will then default to giving you a box. Just un-request it.

Q) Can I cancel a shipment after I get a box?
A) Yes, but don’t abuse this or face possible sanction.

Q) Does Gazelle insure your shipment?
A) They claim they do, but no one has run into this problem yet.

Q) Shipping label does not fit on box, what do I do?
A) Set your printer to print 5x8 postcard and this will work fine & fit bubble mailers.

Q) Should I open my games before sending in if they’re new?
A) Does not matter.

Q) Why was it delivered to Cockeysville instead of Hunt Valley, MD?
A) They get them shipped to both of these addresses, which are streets away from each other.

WHAT TO INCLUDE/CONDITION

Q) Do I need to send the instruction manual?
A) No, but again don’t send everything without manuals if you want this policy to stay the same.

Q) Can I print out my own cover art or use generic?
A) Yes, possibly YMMV, again don’t abuse, and try to send cover art that has UPC label that matches the UPC for the game. To check this punch the UPC into Amazon searchbox.

Q) Will they take games without UPC Label on artwork and still give you full value?
A) Yes, YMMV though, as 2 people had this work but both sent in sealed games.

Q) Can I use a generic case?
A) YMMV, again don’t abuse.

Q) How picky are they over game condition?
A) Less picky than Amazon.

MISCELLANEOUS

Q) If I reject the new TIV they give me who pays to ship it back?
A) You do.

Q) How does Amazon credit get sent?
A) You will get a redeemable code much like an Xbox Live or PSN network DLC code. You just redeem that as a gift card on Amazon.

Q) Can I cancel games that I submitted on their site?
A) Yes, you can cancel games individually without the values of the others affected.

Pray tell.

im sending in 10 copies for naked brothers band for $1

heard they have accepted 9+ copies of same game b4, so we will see... hope I don't get scammed too

I've sent 20 copies of the same game before, so at least in the past they had quite a bit of leniency. I use them a bit now, but only 20% of the time compared to what I was using them.

Don't expect their customer service to be anything like Amazon which has spoiled us all. In my experience with them, "The customer is always right" is not something they believe in. I still trade in games with them but do so with this in mind.

hm interesting incident. i just got back from the post office where i went to drop off my trade ins, using the priority box and parcel post shipping label gazelle had sent..but apparently gazelle is breaking the rules. the clerk at the post office said that they cant use parcel post with priority boxes and the company could get in trouble for that. so i had to drive back and use a random box i had laying around instead. anyone else have trouble with the boxes they provide?

I had the same problem about a month ago. Fortunately I had an extra Gazelle Priority label from a while back when I sent two orders in one box, keeping the extra label for a rainy day (such as this one).

They should be sending plain boxes, since parcel post is probably the best bet for their company, cost-wise.

Happened to me yesterday. They can get those priority boxes free. That's why they do it.

For Pokemon Heartgold, so I need to send in just the DS Case, instructions, and case? Or do I need to send everything. Cardboard box, pokewalker, pokewalker instructions, ds case with artowkr, manual and actual poke game?

On amazon, it says "Software only", so I assume that means just the game, no pokewalker. I assume gazelle would be the same?

this just recently happened to me too...the clerk made a copy of the label to "report" gazelle. I ended up just putting package in a collection box... hoping it goes through. My grandfather who worked at post office for years, said that when the post office sees package...they will charge gazelle for the difference in price. I'm hoping it doesn't get sent back to me.

Also
on one of my trade in's for Army of two 40th day I accidently put a box w/ usps postage in a ups drop box. Now my game is losti n the mail and no one can find it. I tried looking up the tracking number and it says it hasn't been activated yet. Now my trade in will probobly expire b4 I get it back, if I even do get it back.

Anybody else have this issue w/ games being lost in the mail?
did u ever get them back?

I am not sure about this but when you try to mail anything without proper postage being paid it is always returned to sender. As for the window of return, it could take anywhere between a week and a month.

I asked Gazelle about this and they said it was a "glitch". Which i think is complete BS.

In any case, I sent one anyway and it got through. I'll let Gazelle and the USPS worry about it.

Just received this in my email... sold my old LG Chocolate on there a while back.

It's as easy as 1, 2, 3:
 1. Go to gazelle.com to trade in your used electronics
 2. Use the bonus code: BONUS10 at checkout
 3. Receive an additional 10% on your offer (ex. If your gadget is worth $100, we'll give you $110)
Remember shipping is free on all transactions of at least $1, and the bonus code will work on all categories except video games and movies. So gather up your used cell phones, cameras, laptops and e-book readers and earn some extra cash.
Anyone have new promo codes?

TWEET and TWEET10 have expired, it appears.
Got an e-mail a few days back saying SPRING10 will give 10% more on anything aside from movies and games. Expires April 30th.

Wish their codes still worked on video games :whistle2:|

My local post office said they record senders that continually abuse priority mail boxes by putting parcel/media mail labels on them and trying to get them past the system.

Now, Gazelle puts our addresses as the return address so if anyone gets fined for it it'll likely be us for abusing priority mail boxes even though Gazelle's the one abusing the boxes.

yea...thats what i was afraid of...that we would be blamed for gazelle's doing. im going to complain.

I'm sorry if this was already discovered before, but it looks like they're basically following and one upping on amazons trade in values.

Also, is Bioshock 2 for the Xbox 360 supposed to be not there?

Yeah, Ive noticed they match Amazons trade-in prices pretty quickly and try to beat it by at least .50 cents more.

%5 bonus when you pick Amazon credit as payment is not bad, wish it was higher with some working codes. :bomb:

I tried searching this thread and I couldn't find it so I'm sorry if it's been asked... but if I have a platinum hits version of the game and the picture is not platinum hits on the website have people had success trading the game in?

I think Amazon accepts them but I wanted to make sure Gazelle does or doesn't.

I'm not seeing the extra 50 cents. Every value I've checked is exactly the same except for one game where Gazelle was about $3 lower than Amazon. Of course, the 5% bonus is the reason to go with Gazelle. And yeah, I guess I'm glad to see I didn't miss any coupons since I just submitted a few trades and nothing I found on the Internet worked for the games.

I am glad they got rif of the price based on condition though (other than working and complete - they used to have you say if it was "like new" or "good" or "poor", etc). When did that happen? Are they any faster than they used to be? Last time I traded it took 4-6 weeks from when I mailed to get my credit.

Edit - Hey, I see what you guys are talking about with the priority mail box/parcel post label. I had a trade submitted a few weeks ago but I couldn't get the games (stupid L4D2 at GS that went up in price after 2 days). They sent me a box and I just opened it and it is a priority box with a parcel post label. That is a huge no-no. Funny thing, I guess since I didn't sent that in right away Gazelle has stopped offering to send me boxes. I submitted two large trades yesterday - both for more than the L4D2 one and I didn't get sent a box for either. It's just as well because I wouldn't use the priority box anyway. They should just not send boxes - it isn't a big deal to find a plain box that is OK to use with the parcel post label anyways. I mean, my 8 game trade has a label that says "10 lb" parcel rate - I should be able to find a box that qualifies given that large a weight limit ;).

What is Gazelle's policy on accepting multiples of the same game? Anyone try sending multiple copies in the same order before? I have 3 of the same game I want to trade in.

It is at least 3 (I've submitted trades for that many in the past). I'm guessing it is a lot higher though, it just let me add 10 into my cart no problem.

I've got 15 copies of Skate II to flip from the EA deal but will probably just divide them up to not arose any suspicion that they were stolen.

Uncheck the 'original coverart' option and send it in like that. You will only lose $1 or $2.

Otherwise, they won't accept a platinum hits version if that isn't what is pictured?

I sent them 5 copies of L4D2 last week. Multiples aren't a problem depending on the demand of the game. UNO/Skipbo was limited at 3 a few months ago when they were giving $15 and Target had it for $3.

i've sent 9 copies of naked brothers band to gazelle

they took all of them
even the new ones

Hey guys, I sent in a package on Monday, but the tracking on the USPS website still says "Electronic Shipping Info Received." I know USPS delivery confirmation isn't the best, but IF it never updates, do I have any method to recoup the value I sent in? Gazelle's website says that shipping is insured, but I kinda doubt they'd just take my word that I shipped it without some sort of proof...

What about sending in a platinum hits version when the Gazelle link shows a non-platinum hits version? Do you really have to deselect "original artwork" and lose a few bucks?

I'm sure this has been asked before but I didn't see it.
They just received 3 of my Dantes Inferno for $38 each , and they put I should have my check by the 20th. Kinda a long time
im doing the same thing with 5 copies giving me Bfbc2 & DA:O free!

Anyone know the answer to the platinum hits question I asked above? I was hoping to send a few copies of Skate 2 in today but don't want the trade rejected for it being the wrong version.
They just received 3 of my Dantes Inferno for $38 each , and they put I should have my check by the 20th. Kinda a long time
It just gives a long estimate presumably to be on the safe side, I always get my credit about 2 days after the trade has been accepted.

I have a few copies of Mario Galaxy to trade in. They are in the original Wii case with the cover art work perfectly intact, BUT they have no manuals.

I see no selection for stating that you are trading in something with no manual. Anyone have results for trading something in with no manuals?.

Edit:
I know I submitted a game before to Gazelle some months ago with original artwork and case but no manual (got it from a HWV sale). Game was accepted at full TiV (I checked both the artwork and case boxes to get my quote). But this was the only time I tried.

They seem to be very lenient with their trade ins. When they still asked for quality, if you selected perfect as long as it was only minorly scuffed they wouldn't mark you down although they would note that they lowered the quality so it was obviously inspected. I realized on my last trade in, after I had submitted it while I was packing it, that a game I originally had bought from BBV had the wrong manual in it. I shipped it anyways and got full credit.

I had about ten items that were missing manuals and/or cases. Yet I still marked them as full package for the hell of it. Anyway, only two of them were rejected and they are being sent back to me. So I got full trade in value for items that weren't close to being full package (something amazon hardly ever does anymore).
Hmm....2/3. I like those odds. :D

check the UPCs. If it's a PH that doesn't have anything new, i think it doesn't matter.

Yeah but I am receiving a check in the mail not PayPal

I sent off dueling packages the other day: one to Gazelle, one to Amazon (NorAm). We'll see how USPS Parcel Post compares to UPS Ground. The DC on the Gazelle package has been updated to show it has been processed at the sorting facility that I've only ever seen before for media mail. So I guess the parcel post stuff will take the same relatively slow route (though in general it has been faster than UPS Ground).

The Amazon package has left the big city near me and is on it's way to CHELMSFORD, MA... Both have to go all the way across the country so we'll see how it goes ;).

anybody ever deal with game being lost in the mail with gazelle?

I've lost two games this month which is ridiculous

I dropped off 5 packages with copies of Dante's inferno to Gazelle through USPS

4 have made it to destination and gazelle said i'll be paid
except one hasn't even been scanned in it's been over a week and a 1/2
is parcel post extremely slow or is the USPS gonna just owe me a game

I am giving them a chance. Sending 2 :360: Beatles Rock Band their way, while at the same time sending a seperate order to Bestbuy.com trade-in program, because their values were just a bit higher. Though I would rather have amazon credit than bestbuy credit (tax in CA is close to 10% and bound to go up). Fingers crossed these packages dont get lost!
