Gazelle.com

As the weeks have gone by, I have noticed discussion of Gazelle.com trade-in's within the Amazon Trade-in thread. I have decided to take it upon myself to create a thread solely for the purpose of discussing Gazelle.com and posting information pertaining to it.

This post will be updated to look.. spiffier with a full-fledged FAQ within a day or two, when I find the time.

For now, I'll list some basic information about Gazelle.com.

Credit Increases:

+5% Amazon Gift Card TIV: When trading in at Gazelle.com, if you choose Amazon Gift Card as your payment method, you will receive 5% more for your trade-in's.

Promotional Codes (entered during Checkout) ALL CODES ARE ONE-USE PER ACCOUNT, DO NOT STACK:

Flipping to Gazelle

Flipping refers to buying items at one place and trading in or selling them elsewhere at a profit (however, sometimes it is done to transfer credit from one place into credit at another or pure cash.)

FAQ

Q) What is Gazelle.com?

A) Gazelle.com is a site where one can trade in items ranging from Electronics to Video Games to Cell phones.

Q) Are there TIV's any good?

A) Some of their TIV's are -very- good, some are average and, like any other trade-in site or establishment, some trade-in values are poor.

However, from my experience and from the experience of other CAG members, I'd say the TIV's are above-average. Especially when one takes into account promotional codes or the +5% Amazon Gift Card TIV. To note, they seem to match Amazon.com's trade-in values on video games. However, they lag behind by around a day or two. So if a value plummets on Amazon, you can still lock it in at Gazelle.

Q) Is Gazelle.com a reliable place to trade-in games?

A) Many members of CAG have used Gazelle for trading in un-needed items and have had good experiences.

TIMING

Q) How long do I have to send in my items?
A) You have 30 days to get your item postmarked according to Gazelle. Don’t always wait because they won’t want to continue to offer 30 days if everyone takes that long & your post office may not want to send your stuff out.

Q) What happens if I send the item after 30 days?
A) You get the TIV as of that day.

Q) How long does it take to ship to Gazelle?
A) From West Coast up to 3-8+ days, usually about 6. From East Coast about the same, though frequently a day or two faster.

Q) How long does it take them to verify the item’s condition?
A) A few days, but can take longer.

Q) How long does it take to receive Paypal/AMZ credit email after item is approved?
A) Usually 1-4 days, but can take up to 10.

Q) I submitted a game but it did not show up on gazelle or email me...
A) It can take up to 24 hours for it to show up, but it's usually less than a minute.

SHIPPING

Q) Who pays to ship to Gazelle?
A) Gazelle pays.

Q) Do they give you a box?
A) If you want one but only for orders that have ~3-6 games (forget exact amount), they will mail you a priority mail box (but they give you parcel post label…). The box will arrive in ~3 days-1.5 weeks.

Q) Why did I get an email saying I’ll get a box when I did not request one?
A) When you delete games from a large order it will then default to giving you a box. Just un-request it.

Q) Can I cancel a shipment after I get a box?
A) Yes, but don’t abuse this or face possible sanction.

Q) Does Gazelle insure your shipment?
A) They claim they do, but no one has run into this problem yet.

Q) Shipping label does not fit on box, what do I do?
A) Set your printer to print 5x8 postcard and this will work fine & fit bubble mailers.

Q) Should I open my games before sending in if they’re new?
A) Does not matter.

Q) Why was it delivered to Cockeysville instead of Hunt Valley, MD?
A) They get them shipped to both of these addresses, which are streets away from each other.

WHAT TO INCLUDE/CONDITION

Q) Do I need to send the instruction manual?
A) No, but again don’t send everything without manuals if you want this policy to stay the same.

Q) Can I print out my own cover art or use generic?
A) Yes, possibly YMMV, again don’t abuse, and try to send cover art that has UPC label that matches the UPC for the game. To check this punch the UPC into Amazon searchbox.

Q) Will they take games without UPC Label on artwork and still give you full value?
A) Yes, YMMV though, as 2 people had this work but both sent in sealed games.

Q) Can I use a generic case?
A) YMMV, again don’t abuse.

Q) How picky are they over game condition?
A) Less picky than Amazon.

MISCELLANEOUS

Q) If I reject the new TIV they give me who pays to ship it back?
A) You do.

Q) How does Amazon credit get sent?
A) You will get a redeemable code much like an Xbox Live or PSN network DLC code. You just redeem that as a gift card on Amazon.

Q) Can I cancel games that I submitted on their site?
A) Yes, you can cancel games individually without the values of the others affected.

Ugh Parcel Post is so slowwwww. I sent on Monday and it was delivered today, so I probably won't get credited until mid-next week. Normally I wouldn't mind but I have a bunch of stuff I was planning on ordering off of Amazon this weekend, so I guess I'll have to wait.

Anyone have experience with how Gazelle handles fairly scratched games?

I have a pretty scratched copy of No More Heroes that I'm interested in trading in. I'd send it to to Amazon except that I don't have a manual for it.

so I havent received the box they sent me on 4/14, and I dont want to wait anymore. Is there anyway I can just print the shipping label and the recipt and sent the games to them with my own box?will they allow this? Please help. Thanks in advance.

Yep, I never use their box (plus as stated earlier, they send a Priority Mail box and it is illegal to ship with the parcel post label they give you)

So how do you print out the shipping label and the receipt?I tried looking on my account on their website and I just could not find it. appreciate it.

iirc, the email they sent you should have an attachment with both.

They should have emailed it to you.

Go to your account, click on transaction. Beneath each game it says "change shipping/payment details" click on that and there should be an option to reprint your shipping kit.

I mailed another set of games today via priority mail since they gave me a label for 9 lb Parcel Post rate. The actual weight was just over 2 lbs, so the 9lb Parcel postage was more than enough for that much at priority. My PO just covers over the giant "USPS PARCEL POST" portion with a sharpie ;). They don't have a problem with it - in fact, they laugh at the overpostage Gazelle provides me.

So far it has worked on 3 packages - all delivered 2 or 3 days after mailing as opposed to 7 days, typically, with Parcel Post.

Wow, just checking my stuff and I got receipt and verification of another one I sent via Parcel Post just 3 days ago! That is a new record - just as fast as priority for that one. Then, on the other hand, they got a box from me on the 24th and have yet to acknowledge that one :whistle2:k...

would all PO do this or is this the dreaded YMMV, and that you are blessed with a cool PO.

so they dont mind if its a priority box with parcel post label?

Well, as long as the priority rate for the actual weight you are mailing is less than the Parcel Post rate for the weight on the label then I think you are OK. Other people have had the PO print a new postage sticker to put on the package. I wished mine did that as it seems more official that way but the 3 I've sent so far have made it to Gazelle, though one as I noted above has not been acknowledged in 3 days which is unusual for them, especially as they got one just yesterday that they already acknowledged.

But, yeah, it will depend on your PO employees. Once it's down the chain, though, it seems to be OK. Like I said, as long as the postage paid on it is more than the amount priority would cost, then what can they really do? It can't arrive with postage due since it was overpaid to begin with!

So, has anyone ever had Gazelle reject anything and send it back? I'm worried about the one they are sitting on. I see in my notes that I didn't have manuals for 2 of the games in that box. Maybe that is making it take longer, though others have had no issue with that...

I had my first problem with a trade. On 4-16, I sent in two trades. I received notification that one was received on 4-20 and I was credited two days later. However, the other trade has not been acknowledged by Gazelle in any way. When I check the USPS tracking number, it says it was received on 4-20 just like the other package. But no notification it was received and no credit from Gazelle...

I tried their customer chat and, after a perfunctory exchange, was told that was "odd" and it would be fixed by the end of the day.

I haven't read this entire thread: anyone else have anything like this happen and is their customer service to be trusted? The customer service guy was very brief and didn't say anything specific so he didn't really instill me with confidence he was actually going to do anything.

Well, yeah, Moravagine, I'm actually having the same problem though it hasn't been quite as long. They got one from me on the 24th and I've heard nothing about it. Meanwhile another came in after that and was acknowledged right away. I guess I'll contact them about it now.

Edit - Hmm, well, looking at my account it now says they passed inspection but I never got an email. Oh well... I am having delivery troubles with another 2 packages, though. They were sent on the 19th and the last DC info shows they were processed through the sort facility in Capitol Heights, MD a few days ago. They ought to have been delivered by now.

1st time Gazelle trader here with a few questions. I read on their site you have 30 days to send the games in, does this mean it needs to be mailed within 30 days or it has to be inspected within 30 days. I want to send a game in but I have not beaten it yet so it may be a week or so before I can send it. If anyone can share anything else I should know about using Gazelle I would appreciate it. Do I need to make sure the package is under a certain weight? Sounds like no, I am only sending 1 game though. Who pays for shipping back to me if I reject a new quote?

what are some good trade in values everyones getting i know metroid prime trilogy is trading in at 30 any other ones getting that much, other than the obvious ones like god of war and other A+ titles. I know for a while they were giving 20 for hot shots golf but its down to a buck

Well, the rep I talked to who said he would resolve my trade-in issue today was full of shit like I figured. Although USPS shows my item delivered a week ago, Gazelle is still listing it as not received. I'll be pissed if I get ripped off the $33 and chang they owe me.

I think their processing "plant" is overwhelmed to say the least. I have a shipment to best buy trading (same address as gazelle) that was delivered on the 20th but it hasn't been "received" by them yet. I called and was told it takes up to 2 weeks to process.

Oh well, I sent 2 more packages to eztradein (again, same address) today. I wasn't as fortunate as io with my PO, but was allowed to pay the difference to get priority ($1.46 ea) she did complain about the date on the shipping label though. One of the upgrades should have been free, since it was a 3lb box that weighed 1.5lbs (she did the 2lb box first and it weight 1.8lbs and came up with the $1.46 difference). I think she just put the second package at 2lbs as well, even though I had pointed out the 3lbs on the label. $3 to get them there this week as opposed to the end of next week was worth it.

OK, well I'll have to send my eztradein stuff as well. I was waiting on them to process my one-game trade first but I see they have everyone waiting. This time I'm going to write the EZtradein info on the label that otherwise says it is for Best Buy .

As for Gazelle, I dropped off 2 more priority packages today with no problem using the same clerk as always. I get the feeling, though, that they will only do this for so long. But so far it has saved me nearly $10 in box purchases AND resulted in much faster delivery. The two older packages finally got delivered to Gazelle after being held up in Capitol Heights, MD for 3-4 days. It took 8 days total for those via parcel post. The priority boxes get there in 2-3 days.

Meanwhile I had Amazon reject a game for a "missing item" which is BS since I sent them all complete stuff. That makes me glad I used Gazelle for most of this stuff.

J7 - I don't know about the 30 day thing. I assumed it was a mailing date since Amazon gives 7 days for mailing but it could very well be that it is total time since it is so long. I'm going to be pushing it, especially if I go with parcel post on a few of my packages. Also, I'm not sure anyone here has any idea what they do with rejected games. I've never seen anyone say they had anything rejected by Gazelle - much in contrast to Amazon. I know for sure you can send them without manuals with no penalty. And you can send them without cover art for just a small penalty (like $2 less). I am sending one like that soon but I declared it as such, so there should be no issue.

io - Thank you very much. For rejection, I mean if they give me a lower quote and I reject wanting to do the trade and they ship it back, do they pay or do i pay?
io - Thank you very much. For rejection, I mean if they give me a lower quote and I reject wanting to do the trade and they ship it back, do they pay or do i pay?
you do

To answer the 30-day question, though, I think the reminder emails Gazelle sends out all the time pretty much cover it:

Because we base our pricing on current market data, our offers expire after 30 business days. Items that we receive later than that are subject to a revised offer if prices have gone down.

So it does need to be received within 30 days. That sucks for those of us on the West Coast where Parcel Post can take 8 or more days depending on the whims of the PO. Like I said earlier, I had one get there in just 3 days, but usually it is 6 and the last two took 8. Of course, if I can get my local PO to accept the priority boxes it works out much better ;). I know I have a couple of submissions from a couple of weeks back where I wasn't sure if I was keeping the games or not so I've held off on shipping. I need to get those out soon if I decide I want to send them in. The values have pretty much dropped across the board so it's now or never I suppose.

Dude, it will come. It used to take 2-3 weeks for them to generate the credit. Now that it is just 2-3 days, it is not bad. It's better than Best Buy/Dealtree not even acknowledging receipt for 8-10 days. Yeah, Amazon/NorAm is faster but they reject stuff for no reason - just for the sport of it, apparently.
How is credit generated? They just ask Amazon for a code and a value?
I'm not sure how they generate it, but you will get a redeemable code much like an Xbox Live or PSN network DLC code. You just redeem that as a gift card on Amazon - so presumably you could put it on whatever account you want (or give it away, etc).

Was thinking of doing so :D

I hope that is the reason but, given that another package I sent it at the exact same time was credited over a week ago, I have a feeling they lost this one.

Their customer service is absolutely atrocious. The person yesterday literally sad nothing but "That is odd. I will fix this problem by the end of the business day. Thank you for your time" and then disconnected the chat. Predictably nothing was done.

Is there a number to call? If so, I am not seeing it. I'm done with Gazelle if they don't credit me despite USPS saying the package was delivered.

EDIT: Well, I talked to the same rep from yesterday and he acknowledged there was an error on Gazelle's part and claims they "will make this right for you." However, I was told it would be taken care of yesterday so I'm not holding my breath.

It has options for case and artwork but not manual, does this mean you don't need manuals for full credit or should I check off as not having artwork if I don't have the manual? I see this was discussed a bit before but I don't see an answer.

I saw that a couple of days ago.... I was curious too...

Sweet! Thank you. Can you not send stuff on your order list and still get credit for the stuff you do send, without any issues or do they let you take stuff off your list without affecting the other games TIV's that you keep on the list?

You can actually cancel single games on the web site. just go into your history and click the "Remove this item" button. It will only remove the one game and wont change the others. Shoot... I've even sent in games I've accidentally canceled.... and they still gave me credit... I love Gazelle.
I think I've figured out why Gazelle's processing time it so much better than before. Previously, they used to handle the processing themselves. I was wondering why the address changed but didn't think much of it at first.

But then someone pointed me to this site:
http://ebay.eztradein.com/ebay/

which doles out PayPal for trade-ins as well. I submitted a certain Fab Four game there (as it still gets $20 at this place) and the address is exactly the same as Gazelle's. Not only that, but the label I printed says it is going to "Best Buy Video Games Trade-In Center". So that pretty much solves that - Gazelle is so much speedier now because they use the same processor Best Buy uses. Interesting...
I noticed EZTrade in wants artwork and manual while Gazelle wants case and artwork. Maybe Gazelle is confused.

Yea. I've also sent in a bunch of games I got as 6.99 disc-only preplays at blockbuster, printed the artwork on regular printer paper and sent them in for full credit. They're pretty lenient.
Anyone ever try sending in HWV case and artwork?

Doubt that would work as they likely require the original barcode
So true, unless those HWV barcodes are the same, they do scan those at Gamestop. I guess I can print it out. Just gotta find a good site. I wonder what they do when they don't get the artwork, they have nothing to scan. Edit I hope they would just downgrade it to not original case and art.
Doubt that would work as they likely require the original barcode
Do they? I just sent in a pokemon gold without the box. It has no barcode, just a "not for resale" sign, so I'm hoping they take it. When I talked to the dude online, he said it was not a problem.

The HWV covers with bar codes do have the original bar codes so those might be OK. There are other HWV covers that lack codes alltogether though.

But this isn't NorAm/Amazon where they will reject it for being slightly different than the "regular" version, even if it is a legit retail variation. I think they are a little smarter about it.

Edit - Wow, I love these priority mail upgrades I'm getting. I mailed a box on Monday, and just got notice right now (Weds evening) that is has been received and verified!

io how many games for the priority upgrade?
io how many games for the priority upgrade?
Sorry, it isn't really an upgrade provided by Gazelle. It is simply that since they add 1 lb of Parcel Post postage per game, it is pretty easy to mail, say, an 8-game submission in a priority mail box and the 8lb Parcel Post rate more than covers 2.5 lb of Priority Mail postage. You have to get your PO to accept it that way though - just read back a page or two and you can get more details.

I finally sent out my first trade in package to Gazelle after 20 days of requesting the quote. Will it be too late for the 30 days for the quote? Although I received an e-mail from them stating 30 business days, so is the quote good for 30 calendar days from requesting it, or business day? Anyone knows?

Taking my first dive in to Gazelle land today - looks pretty straight forward and sounds like a lot of folks have had good experiences, so I'm looking forward to it. I'm taking the Paypal route for this round as I have a substantial amount of amazon credit already built up and I'm using gamestop credit to buy the things I'm trading. Thanks for the faq/thread!

Soem slightly longer processing times right now, but not too bad.

I sent in two boxes both of which were received on the 24th. One was acknowledged on the 26th, and the other on the 27th. I got my PayPal payments today (the 29th). So, yeah, FYI - 5 days from receipt to payment on these two. And two of the games I sent had no manuals which we already know is not a problem with Gazelle (unlike Amazon) - but here's up--to-date confirmation of that.

Does anyone know if you can add insurance to your package shipped with the prepaid gazelle shipping label?

I see these 2 comments below regarding insurance. One person says Gazelle insures it but I thought others on here had their package lost and they just lost it all. Another guy seems to have been able to purchase insurance but I don't know if he used gazelle prepaid label.
Hey guys, I sent in a package on Monday, but the tracking on the USPS website still says "Electronic Shipping Info Received." I know USPS delivery confirmation isn't the best, but IF it never updates, do I have any method to recoup the value I sent in? Gazelle's website says that shipping is insured, but I kinda doubt they'd just take my word that I shipped it without some sort of proof...

I'm pretty happy with Gazelle for my first two transactions. Sent in 4 Beatles RB in one box along with some other games. 2 had manuals, 2 were missing them. I estimated it correctly ($18 for no manual, $20 without at the time) and they increased the value of my non-manual submissions to $20.

I went ahead and added insurance to the initial package I sent. was 15 games, so the $3 insurance was well worth the peace of mind.
I seriously have the worst luck with CSRs.

I brought in a 5-game Gazelle package and asked for an upgrade to Priority, the lady said no because "you get a discount on the online labels and we can't tell how much it is." I didn't push it since I don't think it would be a huge difference in shipping time, but meh.

It is definitely an improvement on shipping time. I upgraded a package to priority and sent it out on the 27th and its already delivered and verified at Gazelle.

Yep, same here. I sent one two days ago and it was accepted/verified today which is excellent for shipping from the West Coast.

They did tell me the same thing at my PO, worshipsf, but with the boxes I had they were so overpaid (8 or 9 lb Parcel rate but actual weight was just over 2 lbs) that they said it would be covered by any conceivable discount Gazelle gets on the Parcel Post.
