Gears of War 3 - Release Date Sept. 20

I'm just so blinded by the release of Gears being so soon that I don't even care.

I mean I care and it's complete bullshit we already have to pay for shit that isn't even out and was already showing in gameplay videos and that was assumed to be on the disc, but I need the game in my xbox before I make any serious decisions.

Microsofts contract (read: money flow) for Gears 3 likely ended early this year. Nobody knows if they extended it (read: extend the money flow) for Gears 3. For all we know Epic has been largely working on other games since April.

Does it matter though? When it comes down to it we are being nickled and dimed to the fullest. The least they could have done with their grand scheme is humor us till the game actually released instead of being so blatant about having extra stuff that could have been free and on the disc, but instead opting to make everyone pay.

I'm basing my opinion off what I've heard directly from CliffyB and Rod Fergusson in interviews. They had 6 months to "polish, polish, polish." Bullshit.

The character skins may be in the Season Pass. I misread 7th number said. He was referring to weapon skins. Either way, kinda shitty.
 
Yeah to me it sounds like...

1. Seasons Pass = 4 DLC Packs featuring DLC for.... Campaign, MP Maps, or Horde, and will include MP Character Skins
2. Bundle Pack = Weapon Skins
or you can buy the weapon skins one by one if you dont want to buy the whole lot. But if you bought them one by one and ended up buying them all, it would cost more than what you would pay for the whole bundle option.

Im guessing that each of the 4 DLC packs from the season pass will add a few MP characters, there are a few missing. Skorge, RAAM, Mihn, Tai, even that new chick that they held back. (she is in campaign, but not in MP) They will have enough to spread around to each DLC pack. The MP character skins dont really bother me, since they will be included in something i was already going to buy anyway.

Of course you dont need to buy the season pass, and you could buy any of the 4 DLC packs you want, but again if you buy them one by one and eventually bought them all it would cost more than buying the season pass. But at least that is an option in case someone isnt really into MP, and just want the campaign DLC.

As for the weapon skins, i think its a little cheap to make us pay extra. But then again i wasnt a big fan of weapon skins to begin with. They felt a little too much like something you see in COD, not GOW. So i dont really care that much, though i really wanted to use the Deadly Cute color for my weapon if i was being a chick. Which i now would have to buy. But i think they give us enough cool skins that no one really has to buy the extras. Im not sure if i will buy them or not, guess it depends on the price, and what kind of skins they are. But ill probably be more than happy using the free skins i unlock, or get from DLC like the season pass or Infected Omen.

wow, so instead of spending the extra months putting more unlockables and content into the game, they spent that time making all kinds of weapon skins that should be things you can unlock in-game, instead you have to pay for them thru dlc.... that's extremely disappointing to me. i liked the beta because of the unlocks, and was hoping they would have really added so much more to that, but it looks like the beta was basically it, i also heard rod say that the metals in the beta were also pretty much it and there wont be many more in the full $60 game. and a lot of those paid for weapon skins sound awesome.... shame on them not being included with a $60 purchase. i'll buy this used now for as cheap as possible, to offset the inevitable fact that i'll most likely end up biting on a lot of dlc :(
 
I honestly can't believe some of what I'm reading. I so was expecting all these weapon skins and character skins to be things you could unlock by playing the game. That was one of my main draws for this game, as I enjoyed it a lot in Halo Reach how you would play and earn credits to buy new items. But they're withholding about 75 percent of the skins so they can charge for them, and also withholding single player content, and other content so they can steadily release it for months to come after the game's release, and have a steady flow of money coming in continuously. greedy motherfuckers.

In other news... the drama continues. I'm so glad I didn't try to buy this early. Paid unlock confirmation for nearly the entire weapon skin selection on TOP of losing your gold VG unlocks? Harsh. Nice to know those now not so lucky SOBs will keep their rank as anything that decreases my chances of being the first round leader in CTL is wonderful news.

Of course as many in the thread already pointed out, the confirmation doesn't explain how the guy responsible for uploading those vids had the Gold Gnasher unlocked (which is more or less the only one VGers care about) on Gridlock. The only question left is when the necessary update will be live because there is going to be one hell of a lulzfest after midnight on the 20th if MS screws this up.
 
That's odd. You'd think that the title 1 update would look back retroactively and cause the unlock anyways. The dude who said is a "super moderator"...does that mean he's an official Epic employee, or just a fan of the site who was given moderator rights?

The whole thing sounds fishy to me. Most current example I can think of is Castle Crashers, I beat the game a long ass time ago like many CAGs and the recent title update that unlocked avatar awards for certain milestones automatically unlocked for a lot of us as we had already met the criteria for the awards back in the day.
 
Joe Graf is a legitimate Epic employee. He's the guy you go to in order to report glitchers and cheaters in the game, and he'll either suspend or permanently ban their account from playing Gears of War.

He explained in later posts that the reason you can't unlock the other gold weapons is because the game literally checks for your Veteran Gear achievement once a day, the initial time you play in a 24 hour period. The issue, though, is that once it recognizes your achievement, that's it. It never checks for it again. Unfortunately, the gold weapons are only awarded via the title update. That's when it will check for Veteran Gear to officially unlock the weapons.

Essentially, the game lacks information to unlock the other gold weapons. The information will be given with the day one title update. The game will not retroactively unlock the weapons, as the game will not check for your Veteran Gear unlock once it recognizes that you have it the first time. So, even with the title update, it still won't go back to check for your Veteran Gear unlock. That's if you have the achievement and play the game before September 20th, as the game won't have the information needed to unlock the other gold skins.

The better question, which they haven't answered even though it's been asked, is what if you already have the requirements for all the gold weapons (I don't mean Veteran Gear here). It seems like the video posted yesterday, and subsequently taken down from Youtube, featured a player having the gold Gnasher. Clearly the weapon unlocked for him, but not the other weapons. Had he have had the gold Retro, or Lancer and Hammerburst data files, I wonder if they would have unlocked for him. The gold Sawed Off Shotgun is an achievement unlock, so it seems like if you have the files to legitimately unlock the gold weapons you should be fine.

Looks like Ice-T won't be getting the gold weapons, though.

Hmmm, interesting. Now i wonder if i should keep my LE or cancel my pre order and save 88 dollars. Im already getting the regular game that came with the controller from walmart for 100. But i was gunna sell the regular copy on ebay for 45-50 hopefully. But canceling my LE would save me 38-43 dollars. I mainly wanted the LE for the adam fenix DLC and physical COG.

I'm assuming the code directs you to a place on the marketplace that identifies what to download once the code is verified and pushes it to your console. All they have to do is change the path and the key remains the same.

Yeah when i go to my download history it says "infected omen skin pack" but my hard drive save says "Infected Omen Console Bundle". So im guessing if i deleted it and had to redownload it, i would only get the weapon skins now that its fixed.

I just canceled my LE version of the game. It would be nice to have, but the COG isnt worth me spending 30-40 bucks more that it would cost me in the end. Since i got Adam Fenix through the controller IO glitch, there really is no reason for me to keep the LE. I dont want some flag or papers that ill never look at. I wont be getting the Mechanical Baird pre order skin but oh well, im sure he will turn up in one of the 4 DLC packs.

That's bold of you. Really, you're setting a standard that I wish I could follow. I'm extremely displeased about this, but every time I go to cancel my pre-order(s), I hesitate and think about what I'm potentially missing out on. I expect it to be impressive, but this fiasco with DLC has left me bitter. I wish I could go without buying the game.

Hopefully enough people reject the DLC to make a point about that, but too frequently I'm reading posters on the Gears forums talk about how they're fine paying for extra skins. I dread the idea of next generation games, and what content will be locked out of them for an extra price.

yeah... the only reason I had no problem canceling my personal pre-order was that my brother has one as well and we live together, so I'll just co-op with him anyways (we have 2 360s though and were gonna do that way, but that'll have to wait til a used copy pops up for me). IF he wasnt going to get a copy, i'd probably have to pick it up day one new. but as is, i can wait and still get to play thru the campaign and everything day one. good enough for me.

had i not found out about all this dlc/skins being withheld crap, i'd have paid $60 up front and done it happily. oh well though.

My price predictions for the weapon skin sets are 1200 at the worst for the complete set; 800 marking the drop for buying early. Best case scenario would probably see us paying 800 for the set with a 560 price point for early birds. Either way I can't imagine a single skin package harboring a point range lower than 120 - 200 and even if the entire set were 400 I could easily talk my way out of it. I'm almost positive Microsoft is more to blame than Epic for this, but it's not like they could confirm it to any of us anyway. Probably their serpentine way of covering the cost of dedicated servers for Epic.

There's already a few franchises I've washed my hands of complete because I don't agree with dev direction, behavior and practices so by right I shouldn't be supporting this bullshit even if I have free points lying around. I won't. I've never paid for weapon skins in my entire life so why start now? The skins themselves should be free so contests and those already packaged in future map packs or the season pass are the only way I'll receive or use them.
 
They'll probably be included in the Season Pass.

I'm not happy about this, especially the 2 maps being locked on the disc. However, I'll buy the Season Pass IF the multiplayer is stable.
 
Rod already confirmed the skins aren't included in SP at all. They are separate DLC purchases with a price announcement and discount for them buying early coming soon.
 
It sucks that they are going to do this. After showing the different kinds of skins in their videos and making it seem as if they were just unlockables and then telling us "SRRY, U PAYZ MOAR FOAR UR COLURZ" is a really effed up move. I was looking forward to using Deadly Cute but now that I know that I have to pay for it, forget that crap.

The discount better be good then. Characters I can see as costing a bit, but weapon skins?! >_>

The real morons are the millions of clueless gamers with parents swimming in disposable income screwing us all over by supporting the industry in adopting a new DLC model for years to come. Unfortunately they won't notice the damage they've done until it bleeds into a genre or franchise they actually like.
 
ANY DLC that is available Day 1 or having people buy keys is unacceptable. I never knew Epic was this greedy. The only reason I'm buying the season pass is because I have 2000 MS points that will expire by the end of the year.

Because if you do you will not unlock the gold weapons from the VG achievement. You have to wait for the 1st update. Joe even said that if you dont get an update when you put it in, dont press start. Of course you could play it on an account that doesnt have it probably and be safe.

I've heard that. Something about it not going back and rechecking it every time you fire up the game. It's apparently a one shot deal. I heard there would be a Day 1 patch though.
 
So does anyone want to get this gears 1 "Dont hate the game" achievement with me? Ive been trying to do it today with no luck. If i can get 5 other people, i dont mind help other people get it too. Let me know and maybe we can do it later tonight?

you only need three to do it. Have the person getting the achievement on one side and the other two on the other side. as long as he gets at least 2 kills a round, you will be fine.
 
Cool i just played an annex match, i had the most points out of everyone, the last guy left on the opponent team leaves before the last round could start, game over, achievement NOT unlocked.

Gears 1 has horrible lag, everyone talks about Gears 2 and how bad the lag is but wow, gears 1 is as bad. Guys are picking up nades and i shoot them point blank and they end up killing me. Enemy needs a revive, i blast him, he gets up and kills me.

Whenever i try to host my own game literally no one joins.

EDIT: Just finished an annex match and we won, i was tied with the most points and didnt get the achievement. Does it not work on annex?
