Gears of War 3 - Release Date Sept. 20
Once it's back, play CTL on Old Town. Let the rage begin.
CTL on Old Town is my favorite game type on my favorite map in the beta. It's pretty much just me throwing Smokes and going on Chainsaw sprees the entire match.

I've heard CTL is more or less Submission on crack so I believe you. I've always been a Execution/Wingman vet with a little Guardian to mix things up. Annex, KOTH and Submission were never my bag. Way too much chainsawing, two-piecing and host Lancer spam for me to stomach.
when is the beta open to everyone.. not just bulletstormers and pre-orderers
this..

and also kinda shame they didn't already start work on the next gen engine for GoW!!! can't wait to see how it'll play out in the upcoming consoles

Never, unless they plan to open another beta/demo for everyone between May 15 (when this current beta ends) through when the game is released.

If you wanna play that bad, just go plop down a Lincoln at GS and get a code.

You can always pre-order from Gamestop, get the code and then either forget about the $5 bucks or, after the game is released, switch the pre-order to something else.

Beta is open to everyone next monday, the 25th.

Wow thats stupid. On epic forums you cant post in the beta section unless you provide your gamertag. If you post beta comments in the regular gears of war 3 section they lock the topic. Im not sure i really want to list my GT on that forum, so i guess my opinions dont matter.

Well i hope they fix the roadie run from behind cover. Its annoying when you spin out of cover into roadie run and then you stop running.

Everyone, everyone? No code required?

Looks like I'll be waiting till then anyways to play Trenches again. Public needs a quick 30 second map voting in-between matches, also needed for a break.
Yes, everyone.
Aw man...I knew I should have played more CTL last night. I preferred that gametype above all of the others.

No, it's never going to be open to everyone. 7th Number misspoke.

Beta starts today for those with Bulletstorm EE and the online pass.

It starts the 25th for those who laid down a pre-order for GoW3 at Gamestop.

Well i didnt mean everyone everyone. I guess i just thought most people would know you need at least a pre order code to get into the beta.

Man gears of lag 3? I just played a couple matches where i couldnt do shit. I even got killed by a shotty behind a wall! Guess it could be my terrible connection. But wow, i couldnt do anything the last 2 matches so i quit out. No idea how some people are bulletproof yet i get downed with 2 bullets.

Also, check this out. Apparently, someone found tons of info on Gears3 by extracting a Bulletstorm ISO: All campaign chapters, skins, and characters (RAAM is back baby!) See the video at the bottom for proof:

I fixed the link

I'm starting to get pretty decent with the Sawed-Off now that my wall bouncing is coming back. It's cheap but the reload and clip are enough of a risk to balance it out. The Retro is still slightly overpowered at mid to close range causing most people to blind fire lurk their lives out with it. The mantle kick needs its damage or kickback stun reduced something fierce because it only takes one melee afterward to down someone. Not fond of every special grenade triggering a cringe animation either but I'll get over it.

All in all I'm still having a blast with this beta. I'll be on this faithfully until they pull the plug.

Sucks how they put a restriction on what you can and can't play now, oh well. I unlocked all the items I needed to carry over to the retail copy so don't think i'll be playing this that much.

I haven't had a real issue with the "mantle kick" and I actually welcome it, adds a new element to the gameplay. I pretty much try to rush players who are behind a low piece of cover whenever possible so I can pull that maneuver off and finish them with the Gnasher.

The melee system is what they really need to fix. The hit box for melees is either too small or the hit detection is all kinds of fucked up. Also, the recovery time after getting hit by a melee is too short in my opinion. I've lost many a fight where I score the first melee and they instantly recover and blow my torso apart with one of the shotguns.

I don't understand why they tweaked the melee. Three melee's with the pistol when you hold someone is way too much. You are pretty much fucked if you are holding onto the leader.

Yeah it seems like meatshields are weak compared to how they were in Gears 2.

Played a few games with Fleshribbon and his crew and it was pretty fun. I was doing pretty good in all those games. Still had some spots where id shotty the guy with a gnasher point blank and they wouldnt even go down. One time i even shot a guy twice as he was in the Retro Lancer charge execution and he didnt even go down. Usually thats an easy ass kill.

Oh and this one round we lost because i walked up to the last guy, who was downed, and i pressed Y by his head to do an execution kill but he got up and shot me right at that moment. Pissed me off because that was our win.

Just flaming weapons, Gold retro lancer, and thrashball cole are important to unlock to keep in retail version.

Only cole Train and golden lancer will carry over. Check stats/unlocks for "xxx in retail" those are the only 2 that I know of besides the "Play Gears Beta Week X" to unlock the Flame Skins.

I LOVE the mantle kick. One game two people were taking cover and i slide into the other side and mantle kick them both. Its awesome.

One thing i hate are the nades. They seems so weak. If you roadie run past them you will be fine. You have to directly hit them with fire or ink nades to even possibly down them. Smokes seem more effective than nades/fire/inks.

I really like the retro lancer. when people try to rush you with shotties you can usually down them easy. Hammerburst seems like it got weaker, maybe its just me? I havent used it a whole lot. I usually roll with the Gnasher and Retro Lancer.

I already miss trenches. Im not a big fan of Checkout... its decent but not one of my favorites. Thrashball Stadium is fun, and Trenches. Old Town is okay, but again not one i am really in love with. Really wish we got Mercy, that map looked pretty sweet.

^
Yeah, the ink nades are pretty much useless. I don't mean to brag, but I get a lot of direct impacts with the fire nades.

I don't think I will be playing this beta much until the last 2 weeks, due to the gametype and map restrictions. Right now it just gets too repetitive for me.

I wish the savage theron transfers over because that dude is sick!

I've got one disconnect in my stats but I've never disconnected from a game. I do keep getting a "you've been disconnected from the host" message after alot of games though. It kicks me out of my party and when I rejoin the whole screen goes blurry like at the end of a game when the map in the background turns blurry.

And why did they make it so that you can't have more than one controller connected? Have to unplug my arcade stick every time I want to play D:
Shotgun
complaints because my terrible team of randoms has the collective IQ of a gnat
of War 3
Fixed. Warzoning is at least ten times easier to pull off because of abundant cover, great choke points and a high number of viable long to mid range weaponry so if you or your team is getting rushed the f*ck down either your connection or overall lack of skill is to blame. Seriously. Every single time I've ever lost to pure shotty rush was because my game was off or my teammates weren't interested in actual teamwork (reviving, focus fire, flanking, etc.) and couldn't hang at any range. I've already seen an obscene amount of players rely on last ditch blind fire Retro strafing, focus fire Lancer/Hammerburst spam and power weapon camp their way to victory to believe otherwise. When you or your teammates make cover 100% optional for the opposing team getting flanked then one shot by a Gnasher or Sawed-Off is the highest risk you take. If you can't handle it then step your game up and stop letting it happen.

Neither shotgun is stopping any of you from playing the game your way. I love to rush hard and despite the increased performance of the rifles I still have no problems killing the way I want when I want. Why? Because I work hard not to place myself in easily exploitable positions. I'm a vet but not an amazing player by any length of the imagination in Gears. I still have a Fisher Price: My First... kind of wall bounce, choke more often than not in 1v1 clutches, rarely pre-active and am prone to bait tricks. Hit and run tactics, explosives, rush and high risk/reward one shot weaponry e.g. Boomshot, Digger and Sawed-Off are my greatest strengths. Without a healthy amount of teamwork Warzoners shit on me for free without question because I loathe camping and get reckless. Anyone with solid aim backing a Retro is going to murder me if I miss a shot. Despite these flaws I'm still ending 3 out of 5 games positive in the top or second spot.

Play smarter, stop playing alone, or don't play at all. It's honestly that simple.

Anyway... I openly dread Thrashball because almost every game dissolves to a mad dash for cheap seats control then Campfest 2011 begins. Checkout is somewhat similar because of the Digger, but with frag spawn directly across from it and closer spawn points any competent team has a chance to clear them out. Since I'm never entirely sure where Mortar spawn is TB rounds last longer than they should because nobody spams frags in or seems to realize there's hardly any ceiling to speak of. I wish they'd fine tune the targeting for pick ups and revives. I've lost count of how many times I've accidentally grabbed a weapon instead of a teammate because the game auto zoned in on it despite me standing right next to them. The hold requirement is beyond annoying. Also found out first hand if you even so much as brush up against a full Retro Charge while evading you'll still get skewered. Pretty lame.

Another issue with the nades I experienced yesterday while playing, I was right behind a concrete block in Checkout but not behind cover, there was an enemy in front of me, I had a clear shot at the enemy and I chucked a grenade only to find out that it hit the block which was clearly below my guys thighs and it bounced back and killed me. Man what a disappointment!

Also, when you are on a small ledge, you should be able to roll off. The little pedestal area where the ink grenade appears in Checkout is a pain to come off of it, unless you directly walk away, that thing is so low, that you should be able to roll away instead of rolling into an invisible wall.

I couldn't agree more with you on the Checkout nade ledge rolling conflicts man. Every time I manage to pull a clean roll off of that perch without getting stuck on thin air or a corner in the process I know I lucked out. It's ridiculously easy to die on that bitch when rushed so I always grab nades then step walk off of it asap.
Had a positive glitch! Week 2's Flaming Lancer randomly unlocked for me.
That's not a glitch. Aren't we on Week 2? Wasn't Week one VIPs?
I got the flaming lancer skin after my first match yesterday.

Yeah it stinks. I was so pissed when I saw myself get blown to chunks when I clearly had a open kill.

I unlocked the week one skin after playing last night. I also used my Bulletstorm Epic Edition code, so that explains why it worked for me. I really hope that's the case, that only us with Epic Edition codes can get the flaming hammerburst, since that's what is advertised as unlocking the skin for that gun.

it must be my connection because I get downed or shotgunned when I try to go for a retro charge kill. I hammerburst and sometimes active shotgun (2+ blasts!) a charger but they always seem to fucking get me. the lancer and retro however can down chargers.

nades seem to have a delay when I toss them. also can't seem to pull off a toss then backroll.

the hold/press system is very annoying. reviving teamates takes too long and picking up items (too long too) takes priority for some reason. meatshielding also seems to be a pit slow, but maybe it's because I'm holding X when I can just press it?

Has anyone else not received their medal for unlocking the Lvl. 100 Veteran Gear achievement in Gears 2? It's really starting to bother me considering how much of a catastrophe MP was on a daily basis. I'd love to know why mine isn't unlocked.

It's not just you. I dealt with the same Russian Roulette bullshit against them with the Gnasher until I permanently switched to the double barrel beauty that is the Saw. It's very consistent. Just make sure your reaction time is on point and you don't shoot until they are within kill range.

Preaching to the choir my friend. I have less of an issue when it comes to power weapons than teammates though. The game shouldn't penalize you for being a team player. As a general rule of thumb you shouldn't meatshield unless absolutely necessary. Between the rifles, saw and smokes their durability is laughable at best.

If someone is retro charging you evade to the left or right.

I think flaming lancer is a glitch because this is technically week 1.

The veteran medal wont unlock, there is something messed up, but it will work in retail. Personally i use my active reload god medal. :)

I dont think picking up weapons is hard, or takes that long really. You get used to it.

All I'm really concerned about is that everyone's playing the same game, and that glitches/lag/host advantage are (mostly) gone from Gears 2.

Well said, case in point, very top of TRASHBALL by the Mulch/Mortar, there's usually always a shoot out between teams up there, I'm usually the guy pushing forward, gibbing 1 poor bastard then retreating while my team either pushes forward from range or just sits there.

It's been really hit or miss with my team mates, some are god awful others will notice how you're playing(Or how I'm playing rather) and try and back you up. I usually only play with 1 or 2 buddies and the rest are pubs.

There's way more team work going on and necessary to win in this Gears than there ever was in 2 that's for sure.

I've been multiple feet away from a guy who is charging and I somehow get "sucked" into it similar to getting sucked into the chainsaw, I blame lag, but it's happened more than once. Then again I've also gotten 1 or 2 Ole! ribbons as well. So yeah I think it's lag. The only team it's easy IMO is when you have a DBS and theyre stupid enough to charge you. That's my favorite.

So Mortar and Mulcher share the same spawns on Trashball? Holy shit... how stupid is that? Your only option after the score board drops (not that I think Digger can reach up there anyway) taking the other power weapon with it is frags and teamwork. LOL... terrible. Oh well... at least I know exactly when to switch on "OMFG SAVE K/D TDM!" mode when playing by myself.

Oh, and you only have to tap x to pick up teammates after all. Awesome.

Yeah once the scoreboard drops it's grenades and mulcher/mortar. I think they should change that but they probably wont. Maybe move the digger/torque spawn to right in front of the stands where mulcher and mortar spawn.

The little side ramps (that are blocked off by debris) before you go up into the concession area is a great area to angles on people who get the mortar/mulcher.

Sweet, the flaming weapons carry over to retail. Did anyone notice that flaming hammerburst is listed for week 1 and week 4? I thought it was supposed to be a Bulletstorm EE exclusive!

Umm... it isn't listed under week 4. Week 4 is the Gnasher.

Not a huge Gears guy but I recently acquired a beta code. About to hop into this and give it a shot, so if anyone wants to add me and laugh with me at my newbieness, feel free to send a friend request.
