Gears of War 3 - Release Date Sept. 20

im up to 29/30 ribbons so i think i got 1 or 2 in the last few weeks.

gnasher guardian, even with the sponging, is great. kind of wish they would change the snub to a gorgon maybe.

im 500 kills away from heavy weapon onyx, and about 900 away from skunker.

Just got my 64th Onyx, Heavy Weapons.

814 more skunkers till Seriously 3.0 :D

The bad thing is i can only get about 20-25 skunkers per hour by using 2 controllers and killing teammates with controller 2, then going and killing myself. Thats at least going to take 32 hours if im lucky. LOL.

Capture the Leader.
2 round wins for victory.
2 Controllers.
Disable all weapon spawns.
AI on Insane.
Player two on the other team.
Start with a small map like Blood Drive or Mercy.

You can let it idle doing this. It's essentially 4 bots versus 4 bots. The lack of weapon spawns actually makes the AI actually only have one programmed objective; to get the other teams leader. If you have weapon spawns it causes the enemy to go after weapon pick-ups. Removing this makes them go after the leader target, or take cover (annoyingly).

It works well when your 2nd controller is the enemy leader, as they won't fight back like the AI will.

By doing this I think you'll get 10-30+ 'skunks' a night if you idle it while you sleep. It's inconsistent, but easier than playing against bots repeatedly. You'd probably get it in 2 weeks.

Hope this helps.

After not playing this since the last Dlc drop I started back yesterday for awhile. Change of pace but that didn't last long before I got frustrated by the games inconsistancies.
One suggestion for skunker would be to change insane to hardcore. Over the course of several hours it seems to add 4-5 more ribbons since the AI doesn't wall bounce and crap like that but run balls out for the leader.

God damn 10k exp in one game. I'm gonna love 2xp week. I'm a white 90 so in 10-15 games a day I can get a level.
Just noticed every starting weapon has a custom skin with a name from top gun.
its all the same skin though, and imo it is ugly.

I don't think you even earn double xp in top gun mode. I just play guardian 6k+ a game is fun.

Yeah I don't like them either the lancer looks cool it looks like a palette swap of blood splatter
Has the double xp started or is that just tomorrow? I haven't been able to find a definite post about it. Just says July 4th event.
started yesterday. Went from 89 to 94 in two days. ^_^

Is the 2xp for all players or just those with dlc? Doesn't really matter to me as I'm 100 and don't have any dlc still.

I've been playing a bit past few days (tdm) and realized that Overpass has not shown up. In fact I do not recall playing on Overpass for a while (last time was a bit after right when the weapon spawns changed - no more mortar). I've played KOTH on/off past few weeks - usually about 8-12 hours a week.

Also how do people "do well" with the sawed-off? Not all these people going 700+ pts/round (tdm), 2500 pts/round (koth) can be (Mexican) host

I could have sworn i seen people jam their reload and then melee to cancel it and try to reload again. Maybe i got it wrong, but i cant seem to duplicate this. Is this even possible? Maybe im wrong.

If I miss the active reload I just melee and it'll give me another chance to go for the active reload but never to stop a jam.

Guess what i got today. :bouncy:

Now i can finally play skyrim, which ive had since release day, but never played it yet. LOLOL

7th Number: What was your gameplan for dealing with the games played Oynx Medal?

3000 games is alot, I only have it on Team Death Match because I played that mode too much.

Offline idle boosting is probably the way to go for most.

I read some guy left his xbox on straight for two weeks to boost 3000 matches that is when I decided I was never getting seriously

Yup for match types usually private match, 1 round, insane bots and just do them while you are away doing other stuff. I have a ton of losses but i dont care. also for match types it doesnt have to be full teams. So 2 bots vs 1 afk controller works good. But you might do full teams if you dont have last man out, or other ribbons that you would get.

Tuesday will be the last day for 2x xp right? Got to from 89 white to 29 green because of double xp. Good shit its too bad I missed out on 4xp

Haha, yeah, that's kind of how I feel. I mean, I am addicted to achievements and enjoy getting them, but when it starts feeling like I'm not having fun anymore, I have to stop. The only person who really cares about what achievements I have is ME, haha, so I have to remind myself of that sometimes. Props to anyone who has actually gotten 3.0 though; hope it was worth it for you.

I'm a regular level 80. Level 100 by Tuesday? Haha, I doubt it. I really just want to get Socialte but for some reason I'm not getting new ribbons for recent events >.
Tuesday? Sweet, I thought it ended tonight. I've gone from 91 green to 4 red...so far.
I'm not sure when it ends

It was totally worth it. I love gears, its my favorite Xbox exclusive, so to me its more than just another achievement. I got all achievements in Gears 2 and 3. I wish i had Seriously 1.0 but i never played gears 1 when it was popular, and it seems like it would be near impossible to get all the achievements now with people who quit games early, and sometimes weapon kills not registering towards it.

If you get 2x XP in Horde, you should try doing executions in that mode. I'm pretty sure the update to scoring carried over to Horde mode, and there's a more enemies to execute there.

Or, someone should host a Horde game on Insane tonight with Super Reload and 2 hard mutators for maximum XP gain. It's also a good way to get your Silverback Level higher. There has to be 5 of you that could/would play together to get the Level 100 (or higher) achievement.

Damn that sounds awesome. I'm hoping 2x xp last longer they updated the calender with an announcement of them being in SDCC

Man i tried playing gears 1 MP today and wow. It felt so bad compared to gears 3. I was sticking on everything. Gears 3 movements are so fluid, its even hard to go back to gears 2.

GOW 1 MP is fun to shoot the shit in annex quick match and mess with sniper other than that I don't mess with it. I just bought the windows version of it tried MP had to use keyboard and mouse to try and kill.
I'm sure you can still find a boosting party for Gears1 achievements if you ask around on TrueAchievements.
Serious question:
If people are just going to boost them, why not just glitch them? Same amount of effort required.

Glitching them only takes a few minutes. You only run the risk of people like myself checking and reporting you to Epic and Microsoft and having your account reset and/or banned. Fairly slim chance of it being discovered, though.

There's supposed to be a Horde Mod for Gears of War PC. I haven't tried it, but I heard the guy who made it also has challenges in it similar to Halo: Reach, where you can test yourself by earning special kills or doing tasks. No actual reward, it just adds to the gameplay. I'm not sure if it would be able to 'match make,' since it is a mod, but it'd be neat to see Horde on those original maps. I don't even know if you can invite people to the game. It's on the Epic forums page, I just don't remember which section it is in.

It would probably be harder to play, too, since there is no Boom Shields, no Mortar and Mulcher, and no way to plant grenades in Gears of War.

Sounds cool thanks I'll have to look that up. I just need a windows controller though its pretty annoying playing with keyboard and mouse.

Earning it legit is more satisfying. I dont even know how to glitch it, and even if i did i wouldnt. For me its not about showing off what medal i have, its the challenge and doing it all the way through. Plus if you got banned you get banned from every gears game and i aint going to risk that, and dont want to make a new GT just to play it.

I wouldn't call "playing" idle legit. Good for you though...took a long ass time.
Technically, you quoted him discussing boosting Gears 1 versus glitching it and not Gears 3 where he idle boosted to get alot of the requirements. I do agree with you though, but in some instances if it's a chevo you really want, like one for your favorite series of games as in this case, I get it because the requirements are ridiculous. Worse than Seriously 1 & 2. 7th is on my FL and it seems like every night by the time I get to play he's got Gears 3 running an idle boosting session overnight. And he just fulfilled the requirements after nearly a year. I thought about trying for it, but after seeing how long it's taken 7th, forget it. My xbox will finally kick the bucket if I run it that much. And I'll NEVER get close naturally. It will probably be another year or two to naturally get bronze in every medal and Gears mp is my most played game. Gears 1 and 2 I also played a ton and barely scratched Seriously 1 & 2. I think I have about 3,500 kills and 14,000 kills respectively. I did switch to constant CoD4 play when it came out, but I was still playing a lot of Gears 2 horde when 3 came out. In order to get those cheves you've got to play a metric shit ton of hours and I've got a job, sometimes freelancing jobs on the side, friends and a wife and kids to spend time with. I often play a few hours a night, but that's obviously not gonna get me there at all. Hell, I still don't have all the weapon 100 kill cheves from Gears 1. I'm ranting at Epic and not you btw, just happened to quote you which lead me down this path.

On another note, was this weekend really laggy for anyone else? Much worse than usual for me. Felt like Gears 2 all over again. How different do you think reviews would be for this game if they did them now? Remember how reviewers raved about the dedicated servers they tested the game on and gave it credit for having dedicated servers although they were still being "finalized" back then?

I doubt that anyone, ever, will actually play 3000 legit matches of each game type in Gears 3.

Digital download $20 through the market place. Got tired of waiting for a sale that would never come so I broke down and bought it.
