General Gaming Thread #14 - Yakuza 3>>>FFXIII

Just looked up Metro 2033 since a lot of you are talking about it. Am I missing something? It looks like a normal FPS. Is there something special about it?

I love Gamefly except their not shipping what I want when I want it. They have great used prices, though so that makes it up to me.

Just got back from the midnight release. The game is fucking beautiful.

It's a little more RPG-lite than most shooters.
There's no HUD, which is nice. You have to actively monitor your ammo which is really scarce in the game, and doubles as the world currency, monitor your health and wounds, monitor your air when you use a mask.

I don't know, just a few twists to the standard formula. I know it's by ex-Stalker guys. I'm sure Jer knows more than me, I just had a casual interest and it was cheap enough.
Not long, probably would be a good rental if anyone is unsure about it.
Do the side quests. They make Lavos really easy, and they are interesting too.

When you can make it to him through the Black Omen, you will have no problem with him.
Black Omen and Sun Shrine are all I have left.
Black Omen and Sun Shrine are all I have left.
Well it's been a little while since I played the game, but I'm pretty sure the Black Omen should raise your level up quite a bit (or at least enough to beat lavos). Also, make sure you have the best armor/weapons and team attacks. I'm not sure if your party should matter, but I used Chrono + Ayla for attacking and Robo for healing.
Yup GameFly is awful. I'd put a game in the mail Monday and wouldn't get a new one until Saturday.

Like Jer said, you might as well buy the game since they only send you games seemingly after they drop.
Oh wow. Thanks for saying all this, I had no idea and was considering getting it as a replacement for getting some games on launch. I don't like waiting that long for games... and netflix is friggen amazing, thought it would be the same.
Nope, not working this one. I worked the FFXIII one, and one of my employees is a bigger GoW fan than me so I had him do it.
Nice deal. Although I sort of enjoyed doing the midnight launches when I worked at Ebgames back in the day.
I had Heavy Rain in my Queue since launch, Dark Void (didn't really want it, but that's what gamefly is for, trying games you kinda want to play) and Saboteur, and several others, and all I kept getting was the "well, I guess" shit like Data East Classics, L4D2, Midnight Club LA, etc.

When Saboteur Dropped to $20 in the time I was waiting to get it from gamefly, I knew it was time to cancel.

I am looking forward to metro 2033. Odd russian games, yeah!
Sounds like you needed to learn a better queue management system. I already have GoW3 on its way to me right now, I always get the games I want in 3 days max.

It's really easy to get new releases. First, put them on your queue as far in advance as you can since they're sent out to those that requested them first, but they still send get enough to fill most requests before launch. You can even double your chances by putting both versions of a multiplatform release to make sure you get the game. If you put it in there on the week of, you were never going to get it any time soon since they pretty much send them all out right away. Also, don't fill up your queue with stuff you don't really want.

I'm going through Black Omen now.

I'm stuck with Chrono/Ayla/Frog/Robo since the other girls are underleveled without many techs and I didn't get Magus.

Edit: This is ENDLESS

Edit: This is ENDLESS
I don't how far into Black Omen you are, but make sure to steal from every enemy and boss. You can get Speed Tabs from the Wall Panel bosses (I forget how many of them there are, but you can easily max out one character's speed in one runthrough of BO. Two characters if they're leveled high enough), and you can steal Megalixers from the purple 2-headed snakes, and you can get an infinite amount of Power Tabs from one monster that you fight right outside of a save room (I forgot the name, but he always counter-attacks for about 300 damage).

I say "infinite" because you can go back to the save room after killing him, heal up, then go back outside to fight him again.

GameFly really isn't bad as long as you have a shipping center near you. A pretty sure way to get a new game you want is to only have that game in your Q.
Gaga on Rock Band today! Wooo!
*hiiiiiiigh five!!!*

I am definitely playing it in the morning. I'm psyched!

*High Five*

My thoughts exactly... this is why I asked dallow why he was considering buying it (or incorrectly "was hyped") for the game.

Metro 2033 looks like the flavor of the week for the xbox hive mind, they hype each other up, play it and never talk about it again. Its what live is all about.

Personally i'd just play more mw2. Metro looks downright ghetto and boring.

lolwut?

not on ps3 so it baaaad

nobody is really hyped. It's more of a pc title anyway, stalker connections and all.

saying something looks ghetto and boring and then talking about playing mw2.
ill let you find the problem in that sentence.
lol 15 dollars for 5 maps. lol.

MW2 multiplayer is fun dude.

Though I do have a major issue with $15 for 5 maps.
Gamefly is a terrible service. If you got lucky you could maybe get one new release game a week.
Or immediately, all the time, like me.

Whoever pays $15 for 5 maps has no dignity.
GET IT?!

I've given 3 GameFly 3 chances, and it always ends up the same way. I tried that method and they went two weeks without sending me ANYTHING on a 2 game at a time plan.

The day of the second week I canceled and they wouldn't refund me any money.

Gaga in Rock Band is amazing. I downloaded her and about half of the Queen pack. Will be saving the rest of my points for the Kasumi ME2 DLC.

Man, now to do schoolwork.... I reallllly want to play God of War 3. Did anyone else totally miss the first
God's possession
in it?

Edit: WOOOO!!! People gamesharing the GoW3 UE goodies!
lolwut?

It would be as bad on PS3. Bad game is a bad game, regardless of platform.

Im getting the map pack for 3 bucks. Thats less then 1 dollar a map. I'll cry those tears away tho. Gamesharing FTW.

If you pay 15 bucks for the maps + monthly for the honor and dignity to get to play it online, that is LOL worthy.

What are your impressions on Metro blitz, sounds like you played and hated it.
I'm only starting it tonight.
I can has?
Argh!!!!

I completely forgot about the 25% off any used game coupon with GoW. I'll have to bring in my receipt and grab Heavy Rain for cheap.
I can has?
Sure, there's three people gamesharing the contents in the PSN gamesharing thread and you can pick up a share for $10 bucks, which is great considering I really think the UE was only worth about $70. The only downside is no giant Pandora's box.
Sooo if you want all the DLC for GOW3, do you have to buy the LE? :whistle2:/

Or rather, is the DLC in the LE any good?
No, you only get the Dominus armor and then a bunch of music and a documentary in the UE.

The preorder skins were all special and only available through Amazon (Apollo), GameCrazy (Forgotten Warrior), and GameStop (Phantom of Chaos), then 7-11 has the Morpheus armor (blue tatooed Kratos) exclusive till May 1st (I think?).

I have all the skins right now except for Dominus, which I will have soon now that I'm buying into a gameshare of the UE contents. I think buying all the costumes is worth it, personally, considering there's
only one actual skin unlockable in the game.
As for the the rest of the UE contents being worth it? If you're a big God of War fan then yes. I'm actually really wanting to watch the documentary.

Hmm... I thought there were more challenge mode levels or something like that... I can do without a bunch of mp3 downloads and a documentary, though.
Just looked up Metro 2033 since a lot of you are talking about it. Am I missing something? It looks like a normal FPS. Is there something special about it?
Well it's a Russian made game which already means shooting is probably something you only want to do as a last resort. Especially when ammo is also used as your currency.
Hmm... I thought there were more challenge mode levels or something like that... I can do without a bunch of mp3 downloads and a documentary, though.
Well, yeah, there's that, too, but I'm not expecting much out of the extra challenge levels. The costumes, documentary, and music are mainly what I'm interested in.

I really wish they'd included the female Kratos concept in this game.

Oh yeah, for those of you that are playing GoW3...

Am I the only one mad that they changed Athena's voice actress?

Hmm... well considering that all this extra stuff that I'd care about is downloadable... I think I'll probably just pick up the regular edition. Seems like a lot of stuff I can just get codes for at some point down the road. Thanks for the info.

As for Metro 2033... my guess is that it's going to be extremely buggy. The eastern bloc can't make a game that functions properly, unless it's STALKER: Call of Pripyat.

Has has not even played it. Or its sitting on his jtag while he plays some Lips instead.

RoF is getting ready to ship. It has some good reviews so far and was made by the Valkyrie Profile team so im hoping that tri-ace can shit out something good every 5 years.

There's reviews out? I skimmed the Eurogamer one and it sounds like this could actually be good. But it's Tri-Ace, and having played many Tri-Ace games makes me think that's impossible.

Star Ocean 3. Never Forget. Never Forgive.

Yeah, I know he hasn't played it.

Metro has more in line with Fallout 3 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. than it does with Call of Duty.
das ghetto yo

Lymle from SO4 makes it worse then SO3.

Some people are saying its the best JRPG this generation for people who love JRPGs.

Also Strange Journey comes out this week. Not enough time for games!

See, I nearly screwed up with SO4... I bought the game, but then thankfully returned it before I made the mistake of opening it. Phew.

But yeah, the impressions I've heard have been really positive... man, I really hope it's good.
Also Strange Journey comes out this week. Not enough time for games!
That comes out next week.

I'm waiting for a deal on RoF before I even think of picking it up. I have no time for aonther game... plus it's a Tri-Ace game.

Shit, hrmm. Still I think I wanna get it but I dont want to get it from gamestop, but that seems to be the only way to get all the extra stuff with it.

Also another RoF review from games radar.

8/10. 25 hrs if you just do the main story and 80+ with all the sidequests.

They did what now? Btw, this was a spoiler in the gametrailer's review, I knew something felt off.

I can live without the mini-poster. Amazon is getting the soundtrack as well so I'll just get it from there.

Amen. We already had this discussion in here, but Valkyrie Profile is the last good Tri Ace game.
See, I nearly screwed up with SO4... I bought the game, but then thankfully returned it before I made the mistake of opening it. Phew.
Too bad you weren't that wise with Far Cry 2.
Every game should include a new game + option.
Agreed. It would make me replay a lot of games right away instead of waiting.

I wish that game was coming out on the 360

lol GOW3 Ultimate Edition is so ghetto. One small art book and a "not for resale" copy of the game inside, with a code for the soundtrack. but if fools wanna pay that cash for it, no prob.
