George Lopez's show gets cancelled, decides to be racist
Damn you for quoting what I said before I looked through the thread and found out the person who posted it.

Thanks for editing, Graystone.
No Idea why it did that. I clicked quote, and cut and pasted. Fixed it though as you noticed.
can you name another show with a minority lead off the top of your head?
Does the villain in every season of 24 count? =)

in the end i think the problem is this. as a minority and if you are a minority you want to see yourself represented on tv. and it sucks because yeah there are more minorities in shows ( but mostly from the usual 4 or 5 represented categories) but how often do you really get to see minority characters that represent who you are as a member of that minority group or that you can connect with?

white characters can be anything and they have the freedom to jump from role to role without being type casted or pigeon holed into one kind of character or type. where as minorities still for the most part get stuck in the usual bs ideals of what it is to be that minority.

blacks are ghetto and speak slang and love bling

asian are really smart over acheivers

mexicans/latinos are homeboys or esses who speak the usual spanglish

and now indians and arabs tend to be lumped into terrorists

oh yeah and dont forget the rarely seen native american who speaks wisely and crypticaly

not all blacks listen to rap and have cars with dubs on them , not all asians are smart book worms, not all lations and mexicans speak spanglish and wear plaid shirts and every middle eastern person isnt a terrorist but thats mostly what you get . and if theyre not put in those stereotypical roles then they make them as bland and vanilla as possible so as to blend in with the rest of the cast.

i dont click with 98 percent of the shit they say is what makes a black person black and as far as the other races go id really like to know more about what its like for them to exist in this world and how their lives diff from mine but hollywood doesnt think most people do or they just dont care. it takes less work and money to use stereotypes than it does to do the research and make something people can relate to.

hell look at freddy prince jr and his whole career. abc hired him to crate another latino show because of the popularity of george lopez which is the first time most people probably knew the guy was part latino because in everything else he did what did he pretend to be? even the rock never truly admitted to being black till way later in his career.

Anyone ever watch Martin or Fresh Prince?

White people were almost always either
Suckers - Paying lots of money for worthless items
Losers - Making lame attempts at dancing, rapping, unable to understand slang of any kind

A great SNL skit would be "The Secret Lives of White People from 'Urban' Shows". It would be funny to find out what these people would do if they were all put in a room together.

Apparently Lopez isn't aware of how uncommon it is for a show to make it through its fifth EPISODE, let alone its fifth season. You had a hit, ratings slumped, it got cancelled, get over it.

As for minorities in leading roles, The Wire trumps damn near everything. You can count the white people with more than 5 minutes of screentime per 60-minute episode on one hand. And it's one of (if not THE) best shows on TV to boot.

One of the guys I used to work with was Italian and he was pretty dark. He said a bunch of people have called him dirty mexicans and done worse. How crappy.

Bout fucking time after episode 8 or so it started to suck and blow very very hard.
Are you kidding? After the midseason break Jericho got way better then the soap opera first half.
I am Latino and get "I thought you were white" all of the time because of how I hold myself
and how exactly, do you hold yourself in public that gets you said attention :whistle2:s ;)
...How is "How I Met Your Mother" a family sitcom, exactly? :whistle2:s
I think a better question is "how is it really bad?" HIMYM is one of the few consistently funny shows on TV imo (the other being The Office).

the wire is awesome. hbo has some of the most diverse programming on tv period i just hate that they dont allow some of their better shows more time to grow. deadwood had years left on it so did carneivale and even 6 geet under but they ended those way too quick.

i agree himym is one of the funniest shows out now and its got some amazing writing. its not for everyoen though but youd be hard pressed not to like it after a few episodes.

i agree with what lopez said about tv being whiter. i mean it's predominantly all white actors and whatnot. going by population statistics most minorities are under represented on television. however, i don't really care for shows like lopez's where it feels as if it's ABC's token minority show. i prefer it when shows like 24 or Lost actually has a diverse group of people without having the show cater overtly to that racial group. a good example of bringing a token black character was in friends. after getting all these complaints about not having any black people in new york, they introduce a black female love interest. i felt that throwing in a token black person was worse than not having one as it was obviously a sad attempt to be diverse.

I always like it when I see Brak posting in a thread I've been in, because 9/10 times he's going to say the apex.
