That's what I was hoping for! I loved the original version a lot and I was planning on picking up the Director's Cut, I just didn't know when I would. I'm so glad that I was able to find it so cheap. $6 shipped from Amazon is amazing.Great version of an amazing game.

Game wasn't super on my radar, but I think I might check it out now. Diggin' the music for sure. Nice shift from Crypt of NecroDancer. I've been jamming to that soundtrack for what feels like months now. That post was longer than I had thought it would be.
We should all play with the Wii UI like the music, but I haven't even seen anything about Hohokum. I'll check it out though, Joshy. You should play WiiU with me.
I think you'll like it. A lot of the fun details are in the animations, so as an animator, I think you'll especially appreciate that.Game wasn't super on my radar, but I think I might check it out now. You should check it out! And yeah, I'll play WiiU with you. My name on there is pkwaffle. Add me once you get it set up and let me know when you want to play something.I like the music, but I haven't even seen anything about Hohokum. I'll check it out though, Joshy. You should play WiiU with me.
We could prolly get a good sized room going, actually. That would be sick.We can all play Mario Kart 8 or something!
mmmpepsiThat is sad. What's your friend code/screen name or whatever? I'll add you!
be considerate, and put the spoiler tag.I've been playing Hohokum, and I've been enthralled by it, so I was surprised today when I saw it was getting mixed reviews. However, looking at a lot of these reviews, it seems that not everyone is enjoying the things that I enjoy. In fact, a lot of the things that I love about it are things that other people will hate. And some people aren't really even understanding what the game is about. Particularly, I've seen a few people claim that it lacks depth, and that it's simply a piece of eye candy, which is far from true. The depth just isn't in the raw mechanics. For once though, I do think the IGN review gets it, so I think that's a good review to read if you want some idea of what you can get from the game.
I'll also attempt to explain things because I think the game is excellent, and I hope people will buy it.
Firstly, the game clearly isn't for everyone, but that doesn't mean that it's one of those obtuse "art games". Some people are just approaching it in a way that doesn't lend itself to enjoying the game. I would recommend approaching the game in this way:
1. Pay attention to the subtle things. This is where the depth of the game lies. There are several different "levels" to explore, and they are all full of subtle details that really make the experience if you can appreciate them. If you only pay attention to the surface level details, you'll only get a surface level experience. For instance, there's a level with a bunch of pots. If you fly past a pot, it might tip over and break. If you tip over all the pots, the character making the pots lets out a sad little sigh. It might not sound like much, but that little sigh is the exact kind of thing that adds up to make me love the game.
2. Be patient. Play at a leisurely pace. This isn't a game with a focus on goals. There are some hidden goals to work towards, but this isn't a game where you should be playing to "solve" the puzzles. Enjoy everything you do as you work towards "solving" the levels. This game can be very relaxing, and it has a real sense of magic to it, so enjoy it for that first and foremost. Don't rush through the game.
3. Be willing to explore everything. Even the people that don't seem to like the game that much all say that the game is beautiful to look at and interact with. So take the time to actually take in and appreciate everything. Solving the puzzles and getting the little scene for each level is far from the only thing you'll take away from the levels if you explore thoroughly.
So yeah, the game isn't for everyone, and I don't blame people for that, but if you think you can gel with those things I've said about it, then I wholeheartedly recommend the game because it's the best thing I've played in a while.
Also, as a side note, the soundtrack is fantastic. I was happy and surprised when I heard a few songs from one of my absolute favorite ambient electronic artists, Tycho, in this game. The rest of the soundtrack is great too.
