Ghost Recon: AW Reviews & Discussion

I think I like what someone else said (Gamefaqs maybe? I know, I know). They likened GRAW to the Resident Evil 4 of its series. They completely revamped the gameplay and as a result its brought in a lot of new fans to the series.

I have never played a Ghost Recon game. This is my first and I am definately impressed, I couldnt go to bed last night just playing campaign. Havent checked out Multiplayer yet, I want to get used to the controls before I start getting my ass kicked.

I played both of the other 2 Ghost Recons and I couldn't stand them. Too much squad BS. Now its just go here, come back, aggressive, or passive. That's it, aside from the text specific orders. Its a lot easier to keep track of than having two main squads that you have to swap between or having a bunch of different orders to keep track of that you have to give.

I notcied yesterday evening that a lot of the single player elements are not included in mulitplayer. Like the slide crouch, dive and the cover feature.

Also the graphics for the multiplayer are not as good as the single player.
So far I played the first mission and training on single and completed one co-op mission in mulit and played a few sharpshooter matches on multi.

Definety the killer app for 360. It is a great looking game and the features added to single player make it really a great experience. I can not wait to play some more.
Also, anyway to heal yourself?
You kidding me? It's Ghost Recon, not a FPS. No healing.

Anyone else get hit with a head shot in the helicopter mission at the beginning?

It was the second time I played through the level. "There's shooters on the roof" Yeah, yeah. Before I can even get a shot off, I'm dead. It had to be a headshot, lucky fuckers.

Hey if you can heal your comrades why not yourself.

Because you don't have elbows.

lol. played some multiplayer, it plays quite differently than the single yet the same.

My biggest beef is how long it takes to load up a list of servers. Lag is typically good. 5/6 games were pretty much lag free. It is always one dood that jacks it up with a crappy connection

and as much as I hate STuff/Maxim reviews

Stuff (90/100) - "Advanced Warfighter on the 360 is so beautiful, we actually dry-humped our conference room TV set."

lol

so what's the feature difference when compared to the xbox version?

i remember reading that the game would be the same, but in game and multiplayer features would be different. does one version have more game types or player options than the other?

the games were programmed in 2 different studios and are pretty different.

anyway

LOL didnt notice till now.

I loved how GRAW had the Free 48hr XBL sticker on the outside of the packaging as opposed to Burnout, they put the damn sticker on the case. Had to use Goo-Gone to remove it.

Anyone figure out the camera gun controls? Can it even looks around corners or be held above the head like in Ghost Recon 2 / Summit Strike?
In co-op Campaign, can you get revived, or are you dead the rest of the time?
You be dead.

Sound like a pretty exciting game, and judging by that video, it looks fun. I'm not sure If I sure get this or wait for Elder Scrolls IV.
You be dead.
That sucks. The only time I tried co-op campaign (after waiting 5 minutes as well), I got tk'd within the first 15 seconds so I never tried it again that night.

I have a question about the co-op achievement Perfect Chapter 1. Anyone get it yet? I beat all four co-op missions, and got the achievements for them, but no perfect chapter 1. What the fuck?

Anyone been able to work their way through the SP campaign? Without putting up too many spoilers, I wanna know: Do I ever make it back to the city proper to play out a good portion of the rest of the game? I loved those missions more than the forest-type ones.

You can customize almost every single aspect of multi-player. If you so choose, you can create a "custom mission" within campaign and add respawns. I played some 8 player co-op last night with no respawns, and it was a blast to play and to watch and laugh with the other dead guys once I was down. Kick-ass game, all around.

I haven't even played online yet, just been playing single player and am really liking this game. It's pretty dam incredible. Has anyone else played the third level yet, towards the end of the level(don't want to give anything away) it gets really intense. I love it when the music plays while your fighting the rebels off. It is really intense, immersive and felt like a dramatic movie sequence that I was playing. Game of the year so far to me.
Prime, are you trying to join a ranked game? if so you cannot join in on ranked matches.
I was trying to join a couple co-op games. Not sure if they were ranked. I just saw that they were joinable or I got an invite and nothing worked.

The multiplayer is just driving me nuts. It took me 30min to find a "quick match" last night. Trying to join friends was impossible. Im going to hit up the ubisoft boards to see what I can find.
Obvious question: You have NAT open?
Sorry, I dont setup my internet. How do I check? Should it be open?

The only weird thing is that I never had problem joining friends till GRAW

You have to complete all the primary and secondary objectives to get it.

Still trying to figure out the fucking controls to the gunner's camera gun... You could make it look around corners and over walls on Ghost Recon 2; can it even be done on Advance Warfighter?

Anyone?

so i was reading the manual, and there are a good amount of typos in this thing. Says you move with the left bumper and hold your breath while sniping with the left stick on page 9. Quickly pressing A changes between night vision and normal. For a game from a fairly large company such as this, you would think theyd get these things right

I know Ghost Recon purests love the fps view... but, by God; that shit sucks. It sucked in the first game, and still sucks. Over-the-shoulder is Ubisoft's default choice... and I think they know what they're doing.

I can't answer your question, though. I didn't think you could on this'n.
turn off over the shoulder mode in your options i assume
Yup. That puts you in first person. I found that I do much better in first person mode.
Yup. That puts you in first person. I found that I do much better in first person mode.
but you dont get to see the graphics of the guy running and sliding and diving

I tried playing it in first person mode just because a lot of the time in multiplayer it gets in the way to have the guy on the screen, but not having the gun visible in first person mode was so distracting to me, I quickly went back to over the shoulder. In single player mode I see no reason not to do over the shoulder. It makes it a lot easier to know if you are vulnerable in your current cover. Not necessary so much in normal, but critical when you play hard.

i fuckin hate the fact that first person mode has no weapons graphics!!!! how fuckin hard is it to add that in!!!! and when u do multi in split screen no over the shoulder view also sucks ass!l other than that game rocks! havent had this much fun in awhile.

I totally agree with you that they should have at least had the weapon in first person mode. The game is really good though, especially online.

Funny there's a topic about this, it's one of the reasons I'm a little turned off by this game. It just looks like it plays funny due to the odd choices in camera, and the weird hud display even though it's in 3rd person mode.

I saw a screen shot somewhere that showed the game running in FPS mode and it had the gun model. When I tried switching to FPS mode in the game, I was disappointed that it was taken out. Though all GR games were like this, so it's not like we're missing much (if you're a veteran of the series).

From what I've heard it's shown in the regular xbox version.
