GI JOE: Rise of Cobra! - GO SEE IT!!! BETTER THAN TRANSFORMERS 2!!!

I never said it was a smart idea. It was the marketing people that changed it. They didn't want to have to sell this internationally or at home where many americains disagree with the USA use of force recently. Allegedly the marketing people thought they could make it less of an issue by making it the UN peacekeeping force. No one else had heard that/read that.

That was his origin according to the toys - btw most of the character origins were written by Marvel comics writers if I'm not mistaken, as they worked in conjunction with the character development with Hasbro. Same with the transformers.

Destro's a Scottish nobleman whose ancestor was caught dealing weapons to both sides in some war centuries back, and was forced to wear the mask. Destro now wears it as a badge of honor.

I clearly remember there was one episode which explains his backstory and the mask. I will have to check but I doubt it's on my Season 1, part 1 discs :(

Anyone remember the episode title?

My GI Joe anniversary figure collection is growing. Picked up 2 Zartans, 2 Red Ninjas, 2 Cobra soldiers, 2 Cobra officers, 2 Scarletts, to go with my Gung Ho, Serpentor, Roadblock, Stalker, and Buzzer.

I just can't find anyone else, especially of course the uber popular Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Duke, Cobra Commander, Firefly, Beachhead or others.

I've seen Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Cobra Commander and a few others in my area at TRU.
I've seen Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Cobra Commander and a few others in my area at TRU.
Damn man, can't find those anywhere.

I found a site that sells by the sealed Hasbro boxes/waves. A little pricy, but they also offer distributor pricing for resellers, and since I have my permits I can hook that up. But unfortunately they already have Wave 1 and 3 Sold Out, and no word on Wave 2.

When did these figures even start appearing? I've only seen them in the last month or so, maybe a little longer on the 5 pack boxed ones. Looks like I'm going to have to keep checking Targets, Walmarts, and Toys R Uses every day and hope to get lucky if I want a Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Firefly, and Beachhead.

I just found two boxes at one of the local Toys R Uses, they come 8 figures per box. But both boxes were the same and I already have them (Red Ninjas, Zartan, Cobra Soldiers x 2 and Officers, Buzzer, Serpentor, Stalker). Ugh.
Logo needs more red white and blue stripes.
Ha, but then it would be "too American" and piss the foreigners off, similar to the whole no-no for "Real American Hero". Now he's a "Genuine International Heroic Person".

25th anniversary stuff went on sale middle of last year. Keep in mind that most of the Storm Shadows, Snake Eyes, etc that you'll see in stores right now are the same figures from the 5-packs if you've already gotten those. The ones you're lookingn for are unfortunately the ones that were sitting on shelves a couple months ago, but they'll probably pop back up sporadically.

I've gotten everything so far besides some of the newer comic packs. Just picked up Storm Shadow + Battle Damaged Snake Eyes this morning at Target. It's entirely possible that by the end of the year I'll own as many new figures as I accumulated over my entire childhood.

I'm pretty sure I've seen the above logo elsewhere, perhaps in a line of Joe toys? It's not Sigma 6 (which is what I thought it was).

That picture of Dennis Quaid is awesome. He looks like he's ripping his agent a new one.

Cool Botticus. Damn, I didn't know Toys R Us had so many damn exclusives. You never ever see those around here. I have the 3 original 5-packs, the early 2 packs, and I guess all the easier to find figures from the first few waves.

No Flint, Destro, Crimson Guard, Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Hooded Cobra Commander, Firefly, or Beachhead though.

I don't care about variants, I just want one or two of each.

Just picked up a Duke and Helmeted Cobra Commander this morning. So I've got 2 Red Ninjas, 2 Zartans, 2 Cobra Officers, 2 Cobra soldiers, Roadblock, Scarlett, Gung Ho, Stalker, and Buzzer.

Hmm. Collector in me wants, but I'm not a fan of the new sculpts. I think I'd rather drop the money on finding the originals. That's what I grew up with, that's what I should have. I know it won't be cheap but it'll be fun hunting down mint originals. Packaged ones of course would be better.

Good luck with that. Just like finding packaged mint of anything else that is popular and in demand, in particular original Transformers, it's very tough.

One of the greatest deals I ever had was at a swap meet when I was 9 or 10, about a year or so after the original GI Joe 3 3/4 figs came out. At this point, they were on wave 4 or 5, and this guy had a HUGE bowl of the early figures, mostly the straight arm ones, loose but looking pretty perfect, for $1 each. This was probably around the same time I stumbled across the absolute greatest deal of my life, again at the swap meet, where some kid was selling his comic book collection, for a dime a piece. He had pretty much a full run of Uncanny X-Men from the early 1970's up through the Dark Phoenix saga, the Daredevil Frank Miller issues including Elektra's first appearance, and Amazing Spider-man issues from the 70's. None were bagged and boarded, but they were all in Near Mint, read maybe once or twice, condition. I bought them all without even knowing the true value at the time, read them once and put them away. I could sell them for at least 10,000 or more today, probably a lot more. And I paid something around $5 or $10. Once in a lifetime opportunity. I just wish, as I do with those GI Joes, that I had bought them all.

As for the Joes, I bought about 25 or so. I already had most of them, but the price was right.

I still have a few hundred of the original figures, mostly complete with their correct accessories and battle cards. One day I will probably go through them and sort out the extras for resale. I think I had legions of Cobra soldiers and officers, Vipers, BATs etc. Never really liked the later issued figures, when they started getting ridiculous with bizarre weaponry, stupid vehicles, and neon colors and the like.

Just saw your trade list. Nice run on X-Men. I have from about 160 on up with a few older ones here and there.

I wish I still had my Joes. I had everything from about wave 2 on till early nineties. Traded into a comic shop for credit, few hundred dollars worth. I still have the vehicles at the parents house including the aircraft carrier.

Still have my Transformers though.

Niiiiiice. Yeah, I just HATE hearing stories of parents throwing out stuff or forcing their kids to do so, selling it off for pennies on the dollar without realizing the worth, etc. You hear that all the time, and it is just tragic.

I'm glad I had a lot of storage space growing up so I could store my childhood stuff, but two massive mistakes I regret is selling off a lot of REALLY old comics, think golden and early silver age stuff, that my dad had built up over the years (well I got really good money for them at the time...but I can only imagine what they would be worth today), and throwing out all the boxes for my Transformers and other robots as well as the GI Joe vehicle boxes. HUGE regrets, but live and learn. That and I kept a lot of the paperwork for my toys (i.e. the Transformers instructions, tech specs, GI Joe fact cards, etc.) in one box and that box disappeared many, many years ago, and is most likely gone.

I never had the aircraft carrier, but I have the mobile space shuttle complex.

Damn, never had that.

kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarkyco!!!

Anyway, I almost had Fortress Maximus. There was a Lionel Playworld closing down in Mesa, AZ and they had a boxed one for about $60ish. Box was beat to hell but had everything in it. That sucker was alot more when it came out originally. Dad just wouldn't budge. Now that sucker goes for a few hundred on Ebay and that's for an incomplete one!

Yep I had to give away my old toys by my parents. I never had a huge collection of Joe's (only had Tunnel Rat), but I had quite a collection of Transformers. I did manage to keep like 2 or three of the Technobots, but I can't find them. All the rest went to my younger cousin, but they were most likely trashed or given away too. :bomb:

This time my new collection is growing. I already agreed that we will not trash/give away/sell our collections (her barbie dolls to my Clone troopers/transformers). Although my collection isn't worth much, she has quite a collection set back 20 some years that is worth quite a bit on ebay.
Which animated one, the one with Cobra-lalalalalalala? HAHAHAHA!!!

That was so horrendous it was awesome. Sgt. Slaughter unscrewing the screws on the security panel (found INSIDE the cell, BTW) to his prison cell with his finger nails, hahaha.

And wasn't Lt. Falcon voiced by Charlie Sheen, even better!
HAHA yes, exactly!! "Cobra-lalalalala"! good lord, that narrowly ruined GI Joe for me forever, despite Sgt. Slaughter's general bad-assery. didn't he punch down a concrete wall in that movie, too? just to get his hat back?

Plus the whole Duke "in a coma" crap where he was supposed to die. i know i was little when i saw it, but i remember thinking "a spike through your chest should make you stop breathing and DIE, not FALL ASLEEP."

oh also, the 25th Anniversary GI Joes are hella sweet. i've been ordering them off BigBadToystore and have tried to pick up every figure, except for the "build a figure" kids that are just 5 of the same guy. so i have like 18 different Snake Eyes, and i get to do the mail-away to get Doc! hooray!
If it wasn't for Ray Park as Snake Eyes, I would say that picture could have been CGI.
haha, SO true. kind of like that DVD they gave away with the action figures for a while, "Valor vs Venom". everyone was SUPER buffed-out and moved so mechanically, and Snake Eyes looked totally similar to that shot.

YO Joe!

I'm OGGIJOE82 3 3/4

What the hell is with all the Slaughter fans? Were you guys wrestling fans first? Flint with the eye gouge was way more brutal than anything Slaughter could twist off with his fingernail.

Why cast a black actor for ripcord when there are awesome Joes like stalker and doc not even in the movie? Granted Doc got mowed down by Saw viper in the comic but he still could have been in the movie. It's not like they are going to continue a storyline from the books or toons anyway.

fuck heavy duty. Where is Roadblock? I'm sorry but a little piece of me died when I saw heavy duty pick up a tank and throw it in one of the shitty recent cartoons. Twenty people can stand 50 yards from each other and shoot a million lasers and never hit anyone, thats fine. Please don't throw any gd tanks though.

Snake Eyes looks pretty awesome. Only thing though. The red symbol on his bicep was actually a tatoo on his forearm that I thought he kept covered purposefully along with his face. Why would it be painted on his costume?

phew, I read this the other day about Frasier and the Rock being part of the new movie. I was thinking the Rock was going to fill the role of "Sgt. Slaughter" since he played "Sarg" in DOOM. Frasier, he could have made a good FIRST AID.
I think Macho Man Randy Savage should be Shipwreck instead of The Rock.
WHAH?!? Either of those choices are crazy. And to the guy who asked if Shipwreck was Hispanic, hahahaha not at all. Dude was/is white.

Seriously, the Rock as Shipwreck is just crazy ridiculous. Maybe as Stalker. What's next, make Duke or Snake Eyes Asian, or maybe make Storm Shadow middle eastern? Well Snake Eyes could be played by an Asian because he's masked all the time.

Shipwreck needs to be some swarthy, scrappy white dude with a serious beard going on. But absolutely NO CGI parrot, dear God that would be the worst. Or a CGI Timber.

I think Hollywood would skip the parrot altogether. Timber won't be replaced with CGI.... unless he could talk or do something crazy in the cartoon...but I forgot.:whistle2:k

Nope, he a cracker. There weren't many asian joes. Maybe Crazy Legs or Budo?

The Rock as Shipwreck?! Shippy wasn't a big dude, nor was he somoan. I could think of ten or so better parts for the Rock. Why not the Rock as Roadblock?

It's too bad I never completed my GI Joe Series collection past the first box. Hopefully when the movie comes out, their will be a new release.

Ok so the "is shipwreck latino, how many asian joes were there" questions got me searching. Here's a wiki list of joes with names.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_G.I._Joe_ARAH_characters

I don't really want to speculate on possible nationality just by last names, even with fictional characters. Quick Kick is listed as last name of Ito. Only other famous Ito I know is the judge from OJ trial and he was asian. And Shipwreck is listed as Hector Delgado, which sounds latino to me.
