GOG Deals Thread

Switched it up to the new box and got Sang-Froid: Tales of Werewolves 66% OFF
$14.99 $4.99  This interests me, but I'm not sure if it $4.99/GOG interests me.  Gotta think about it...

The Commandos games often go on sale for really cheap *and* have been in bundles, so I would say no.

GOG 's commandos seems to be the only copies that works out of the box. Haven't tried, but is what people say...

RCT3:p is the best theme park management game in the franchise.  First two arguably are better coaster designers, but 3 does give you the added benefit of being able to ride your coasters in first person view.

I didn't enjoy it much at first, just playing in sandbox mode, but then I started up the scenarios and ended up playing every single one of them.

edit:  crapballs, I want the Settlers deal to win tomorrow.  Stupid better games being included in the vote.

Well, I got Omikron: The Nomad Soul for $2.49 (75% off) in my Timeless classics.

...seems to have good reviews, also is on steam. Faint temptation will probably be vanquished by apathy and procrastination.

My Daily Surprise was Commandos Ammo pack for $1.50.

Worth it?
I say go for it, the Steam version is horrible to play for the first one and I couldn't ever seem to get the speed running correctly so it made it a horrible game to play. I know the gog version (which I bought later on sale) would work fine when I got back to the game.

Anyone who's still thinking about DnD games: Gamersgate has the DnD anthology on sale for 5 dollars. Includes both Baldur's Gates and Icewind Dales with dlc and more

Today's deal for me is Raiden Legacy which I already own, again.

Gog if you hadn't put out those Fallout games for free I'd be so cross with you...

How could you possibly pass up a game set in the future that involves ghosts and possession and fourth-wall breaking AND stars ZIggy Stardust himself?

In general, I did not like 3D of that era, at the time. I'm far more tolerant of 2D & isometric games pre-2004. But you raise good points. =) I'll consider it.

My deal for the day was Thief 3.  Already own it :(  Come ooon Evil Genius

Also, I bought the Might and Magic games as an impulse buy.  Hopefully they'll be good. I know nothing about the series, but it was cheap for a bunch of games :p Can't resist a good deal

Same for me.

Well, they weren't all crap, but I already owned 2 of the 3.

They just posted this

"We know that a lot of you wanted to see what the three special deals were for you each day, and didn't like that you didn't have more idea what you're picking. So we've changed our daily deals so now you can see what's games you can pick from, with the element of surprise limited to the amount of discount you'll be getting. It might by 100%, by the way, as we're adding in a bunch of free games to our daily surprises, so be sure to check them out in case there's a free game waiting for you just a click away!"

I ended up picking Battle Realms + Winter of the Wolf 70% OFF $9.99 $2.99

So, with this new method, I'm not as surprised, but still kinda disappointed.

Bah. It seems the Sierra adventure games will not be appearing in this sale.
The sierra games might appear as one of the voting options of the Community vote at some point. Only the "recommended deals" are being revealed in full today. Because they already know what those will be. For the community vote deals, they could only recap the first week of the deals because they don't know what will win the upcoming votes.

Of course, this is assuming that they continue on with the community vote gimmick. There doesn't appear to be anywhere to vote for tomorrow's choice. So the sale might take a different form starting tomorrow.

I ended up going with Gothic 2 Gold. The other two games don't interest me. I can get it for $2.50. According to isthereanydeal, the lowest it's ever been was $2 on shinyloot, which I've never used.

I never knew Gothic 2 was so well loved. Again, GOG introduces me to an awesome game I never knew existed. I was about to skip all three deals.

I just might pick this up.

I'd like to pick up some of the D&D games for nostalgia's sake. I've heard that GoG does some work to get everything they offer up and running well on modern machines. Is there any difference in the versions they are offering vs the ones in the anthology on Gamersgate? I like that price better and the anthology is the specific ones I want to own. But I also like the idea of not having to fiddle around to get these old games playable.

Also, I still have my physical copy of baldurs gate 2. Do any of these versions give me any benefits over my old copy, compatabilty-wise? Thanks y'all.

GG's D&D Anthology is a repacked release of GOG's versions (minus the feelies). I own it from GG. (Just FYI, the same is -not- true for GG's NWNs.)

Looks like I'll be picking up Anachronox for $1.49 and Space Colony HD for $2.99, both of which were on my wish list and which will probably never end up cheaper (or if so, by only pennies).

I just mightily this up.
Do you like Pirahna Bytes?

They make some good-to-great RPG's.

I would certainly recommend Gothic 1 + Gothic 2 & Risen 1 + Risen 2.

Side notes -> Risen 1 has been DRM-FREE before on Amazon DVG and been cheap; and Risen 2 currently requires Steam everywhere.

Gothic 3 (original) is another story entirely. IMHO, Gothic 3 is just too buggy, too huge-in-scope, and way too problematic to recommend - and that's even w/ the newest Community Patch installed. If all of the crap ever got fixed w/ this game, which probably ain't gonna happen at least for a very long time & until modders keep working the game for another few years - then, it would be worth recommending.

EDIT:

If you ever could get Gothic 3 extremely-dirt cheap, then maybe you'd want to take a chance and roll the dice; and actually want to give it a shot.

Cute.

I'm actually tempted by that Bullfrog pack... but I guess I'll wait for the Wing Commander games to show up in a pack.

Nod, the Bullfrog pack is temping. I have the Syndicates and Theme Hospital. I want the Dungeon Keepers but I'm ambivalent about the rest.

I've never heard of Pirahna Bytes until today, and barely knew anything about Gothic 2.

I hear Risen is a LOT better than Risen 2.

I'll try out Gothic 2. Not sure if I'll wanna go back to Gothic 1 though.

Gothic 1 is my favorite PB-made RPG, actually. It was the RPG that made me notice them. It felt so new w/ the way it has NPC's run on a schedule and do things; and the combat and RPG elements were so different at that time than what others were doing. Despite having to get used to its controls and feeling the ending is done in a way too abrupt manner - I loved this game. There was nothing like this game on the market, IMHO - back when it came out.

Gothic 2 (base game) -> I liked it, but I think it kind of lost its steam by the end. Some of my complaints from G1 weren't addressed (combat system + its controls wasn't changed enough, to suit me); the over-usage of same voice-actors especially on important NPC's to the story; and I absolutely hated the cliffhanger ending.

I never played Gothic 2: Night of the Raven (expansion). Can't speak on NOTR.

That expansion - that comes in the G2: Gold Edition, BTW.

I really liked both Risen 1 + 2. I think they both have their pro's and con's.

I liked Risen 1 a lot. Actually, I think it's VERY similar in many ways to Gothic 1, especially in terms of gameplay (stuck on a small area w/ tons of things and quests to do; decision-making; faction-joining; and other things of that sort). Except - well, Risen 1 controls way better to me than the Gothic games do, when in combat. But by the end - it kind of goes too linear for its own good; didn't care much for final boss fight; and I just wasn't super-fond of the "Titan" story-line. I preferred the side-quests and stuff that was related to pirates. Regardless, still certainly worth playing - really good RPG.

So glad Risen 2 focused on pirates. I think Risen 2 really nails the pirates theme - and I'm glad this was the front & center storyline for the sequel. I think the biggest hurdle/thing with Risen 2 is this: the combat & its camera is so overhauled from the original - b/c it now has an unlocked camera and you need to hold right-mouse to strafe - it takes time to get used to how the camera and gameplay works. Having it unlocked does make it easier to swing from enemy-to-enemy; but you do need to remember that you got to hold right-mouse when you want to strafe and lock-onto an enemy. I really liked this game A LOT.

OK, just watched a video review of Gothic 2, and I think I'll skip it until I'm desperate for a new game. The shadow of my pile of shame looms over me, and I FEAR IT!!

Heh, I could get Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs for 50% off in the Santa got Scared pack, or I can take advantage of my daily surprise and get it for 51% and save an extra 20 cents!

I should also note - Gothic 1+2 & Risen 1 ain't easy games, either.

Save a lot. You could walk into an area and it could WAY out-level you.

Also, Risen 2 didn't seem anywhere as hard as the other PB-games.

MDK2 = 75% off @ $1.49

Not too interested.
