GOG Deals Thread

Blizzard still sales and supports Diablo 2

I think they have Warcraft 3 as well but I don't play it so can't confirm. I think they support all their old stuff except Diablo 1 (which I think they have a link to purchase on gog). Not sure why they only chose to have Diablo 1 on gog or even why they didn't just do it themselves?
Yeah, D2 is still sold via the Battle.net client and there are rumors it is getting a remake. Hopefully it's not as horrible as the Warcraft 3 remake.

NOLF's nightmare may be ending soon now that Monolith/Lithtech is up for sale.
If Activision bought them, then it goes from three parties to two, and 20th Century Fox (now owned by Disney) has the weakest claim given that they sold Fox Interactive to Vivendi (also Activision).
Activision has been pretty good about putting their Sierra catalog up for sale lately too.
Warner Bros. also seemed to be the biggest pain in the asses to deal with based on the article.
AvP2 is also in the same horrendous situation, which would similarly end. Fingers crossed.

D2 & LoD is still not on GOG though, regardless. Would be nice to see it there.

Same goes for WC3 & TFT; and StarCraft 1 & Brood War.

Yes, D2 & WC3 are both on BNet.

I still have both my retail-disc copies and BNet copies of D2 + LoD.

Warcraft 3 & Frozen Throne, I have my retail-disc copies and BNet copies of those.

I know I activated my retail keys up on their website, quite the while ago.

I also have retail boxed copies of SC1 and Brood War.

Now, all of that is really interesting. I'd love to see NOLF and AvP2 end up on GOG, Steam and other places. Solving that problem would be great.

Though, I also don't really like the idea of EA, Take-2, or Activision gobbling more companies up. WB isn't even in the league of EA, T2, or Acti - when it comes to horrible business practices and things of that sort. EA would likely, at some point, destroy NetherRealm and - like they've done to Bullfrog, BioWare, WestWood, Pandemic and numerous other companies.

Sure, I'd love to see Monolith, NetherRealm, Rocksteady, and other really good-to-great dev's have bigger budgets to make their games productions values and whatnot even better - but ugh, I'd worry what any of those 3 majors publishers could & would do to them; especially if EA bought them.

Would've made sense to announce that, while the sale was on-going.

Or to keep the sale going until it delists on Wednesday.

I might as well wait to see if Grandia 2 HD Remaster winds up on sale on Steam now.

Who knows if the new version will come to GOG anytime soon.

[shrug]

Posting my haul from the sale!

I have Witcher 3 GOTY digital on Xbox and it added the GOG GOTY version to my account.

Anyone know how to activate updates on GOG Galaxy? I accidently selected later and can't get it to ask again. I can't connect PSN as it keeps saying timed out. I'm assuming because it's not the latest update.

I was trying to get a free copy of Witcher 3 GOG but I couldn't connect to PSN from GOG Galaxy due to connection timeout issues so I followed the instructions below and got it to connect now.

Here is the solution to get it connected to PSN - https://www.gog.com/forum/general_beta_gog_galaxy_2.0/playstation_connection_timed_out

Hey, guys - the offer to claim the GOG.com version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on GOG Galaxy 2.0 ends in 8 hours and 27 minutes.  I own The Witcher 3: Game of the Year edition on Xbox One.  I have downloaded the GOG Galaxy 2.0 launcher, but it doesn't seem to be adding the game to my library.  What am I doing wrong?  I am genuinely asking for help here.

I received one of those time limited offer e-mails from GOG for some classic EA strategy games. Most are Bullfrog games that most of you already own, but SimCity 3000 at $2 is cheaper than its all-time low.

Thanks for the heads-up on the free Warhammer game.  I had purchased the games Halfway and Hammerwatch on GOG this morning before work to play on my new laptop, so I probably would not have noticed this deal.  But it's nice to get a DRM-free-freebie.

Not a spectacular deal, but I just bought Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition for $5.99.  Planning to run it on my newish laptop.  According to the entire world, the GOG version runs better than the Steam and Xbox versions.  I'm excited since it is one of my favorite games of all time.

Some info on GOG version:

  • GOG version has the multi-core fix already attached to it, supposedly.
  • Large Address Awareness patch is already attached to it
(to stop crashes & so you can utilize over 4GB of regular RAM).
  • Plus, since it's on GOG, there's no G4WL junk tied to it either since they don't allow DRM
(everywhere else on PC, you'd have to mod it out b/c G4WL can cause lots of problems).

Check PC Gaming Wiki on FO3 for more info:

If somehow you don't own it by now...

Witcher 1: Enhanced Edition is on FREE Giveaway on GOG.com
I had the original release on CD-ROM or DVD or whatever years ago, but I've had the Enhanced Edition on my wishlist for a while and just keep neglecting to buy it whenever it hits $1.49.

Procrastination pays off today, and now I have the entire trilogy on GOG via one giveaway or another. They gave away 2 years ago; they had the 'link your PSN if you own Witcher 3 and we'll give you a PC copy of whatever version you own' promo for GOG Galaxy; and now this.

Whee!

Did you ever activate your CD-ROM/DVD key-code onto GOG?

That's originally how I got Witcher 1 onto GOG. And when it came to free upgrade time for EE, I did it via GOG.

Didn't. The original retail copy didn't make the move from CA to WI with me.

So free EE giveaway = I'm in, you crazy bastards.

Check your e-mail for promo codes on the Homeworld series. Mine shows this:

That might be worth considering if you feel like contributing to Randy Pitchford's legal defense fund.

Thanks. I had the code. Paid around 9 for the whole deal. It said that I save around 110 bucks.

Nostalgia was a big one for me on this game, but it doesn't really hold up. Pulled out my OG Xbox and only played for about an hour before moving on. Maybe it's (slightly) better on PC, but the alt-world aesthetic is the only real positive as it's gameplay is nothing engaging.

I’m certain that if I’d ever heard of that game, I’d be excited. Or indifferent. Or somewhere in between.
It's by IO Interactive.

Besides Hitman series and Kane & Lynch, this was one of their other games and IP's.

Fun game. Cult classic status. Glad to see IO's listed as the publisher and developer here, as EA published it to retail back in the day.

It's a fun third-person shooter/action game w/ an alt-history setting and premise.

I think it certainly helps, if this was played way back in the day.

I'd like to see a remaster, reboot, or sequel here. I thought this game was underrated, back in the day.

MysterD has the third highest post count in this thread. He is eclipsed only by myself and (inexplicably) talkinrock.

I gotta admit, that kinda surprised me. He does post a good deal during the gimmick sales (insomnia and such) so I guess he just piled up most his posts then.
How does talkinrock being up there surprise you? He used to be virtually every other post here when he was active.
Oh god, he's still in third place.

Do I not post enough in this thread or something these days ? ;)

Am I way behind the rest of the posters in here?

I normally do most of my posting in the Steam+ thread, but post here and there in this thread when they have big sales and/or I see something get added to GOG's DRM-Free party.

I'm also surprised some threads like GOG and Fanatical threads haven't been, more or less, folded into the very popular Steam+ Thread.
