Good NES vertical shooters?

guardian legend!!!

gun-nac is the best of the best, but 1942/1943, and legendary wings rule alot as well. you might want to try games like gun.smoke, commando, and the adventures of dino riki.

I'll second Guardian Legend. In my opinion, it's the best vertical shooter on NES. Portions of the game are played with an overhead "Zelda" style view (you walk around screen by screen), but you could skip those parts by entering TGL on the password screen.

Yes, The Guardian Legend is great vertical shooter for the NES! I remember renting the game and destroying it! I accidently discovered a way to continue after dying by pressing buttons...:joystick:

half of life force and "stinger" by konami i think was a vertical scrolling shooter. I remember Tiger-Heli being fun in the arcades and I liked it on the NES as well so maybe that one too.

You just reminded me about a game that was stolen from me, a long time ago in grade school. I was swapping games with a friend, my copy of Ikari Warriors II: Victory Road for his copy of Tiger-Heli. The game was stolen from my backpack later that same day! I never knew who stolen my copy of Tiger-Heli...:whistle2:k

It was me.

*evil laugh* :applause:

Agreed with others - 1942 and 1943, and Lifeforce is a combination horizontal/vertical (every other board is vertical).

Gunsmoke and the original Commando are also great, though not traditional shooters, I guess.

I have to say while I like Gunnac and thought it was interesting Zanac is where it's at, followed closely by the super diffucult Gaurdian legend.

I MIGHT have asid Alpha Mission had I not been fooled into thinking it had an ending. After Playing Zanac I couldn't possibly conceive of a shooter that DIDN'T end.
