Grand Theft Auto IV - Gen. Discussion & Info

I got soo pissed last night. There was a mission (for packie or derrick I think) where you had to (without spoiling it) do a TON of shit, and then when it was all done, take a LARGE vehicle back to a certain spot.

Well I did all of it, maybe 20 mins worth of gameplay, then as I'm a block from the final parking spot to hide the vehicle, the friggin thing roles over. I could NOT get it upright. I tried by jacking another car and ramming it but nothing worked. Mission failed.

One other tip for "Three Leaf Clover"...

Keep an eye on your partners-in-crime. Every cop doesn't have to die for them to advance, so make sure you aren't the only one shooting, especially in the subway part.

In the tunnel, I was fighting off cops, and didn't notice that they ran off on me. And to make matters worse, when I saw that they took off, I turned around (and you know how slow that can be), only to be floored by an oncoming train. :bomb:

Bottom line: just stick with them as close as you can, and if they stop fighting and take off, you do the same.

well GameCrazy replaced my GTA disc, couldn't get the scratch out. they were really cool about it too. best $3 I ever spent.

now I can get back to the vigilante missions.

Got my new 360 today, WOOT!!! I started tonight playing team deathmatch and already killed a Rockstar rep and got the achievement. And to top it off, I turned in my broken console to GS and got $175 credit off of the Arcade bundle!!! Today was definitely a good day. Too bad I have to study for finals for next week:cry::cry:

EDIT: ^Same here, were you in the same match????

Is it just me, or is this game not as fun as the previous GTAs after you've completed the story? I know I put sooooo much time into GTA III after the story was complete, but I just don't have much of a desire to play this one now that there's no story left. I'm thinking part of the reason is the police being so much more persistent and the ease of getting a wanted level. Of course I'm keeping it around until the DLC comes out though.

Might I ask what you can do in prior GTA games that you can't in IV. Have you seen the Car Cannon yet?

Also how hard is it to loose your wanted level from 1-3 stars?

I think its because the sandbox type is old now. I too feel the same way. You dont get as much as a thrill as you did when you played GTA III and just went around killing people, and doing random junk. By the time San Andreas rolled around i was getting a bit bored with it, though jet fighters with missiles did help me do random junk. I rarely mess around in GTA IV once i got 100%. Most of the things you can do we have already done before in past gta games.
Got me the "Let Sleeping Rockstars Lie" Achievement today....:)
I'm pretty sure if someone kills a Rockstar employee then if you kill that person you get the cheesemint. So let me kill you in a game soon. :D

Heh, I just dropped a grenade out of my window in a race and got that let sleeping rockstars lie achievement off one of the three people it blew up. Good stuff.

Yeah, seems like just about everyone has that achievement now. Been hearing people say "Sweet, Let Sleeping Rockstars Lie unlocked" every other game.

I got mine almost the same way but with a cocktail. It was GTA race with Bike, I got to the cocktails first and started throwing them instantly. I looked back and see somebody on fire, few seconds later the dude dies and out of nowhere the achievement icon appears. I know for sure that a lot of people got that achievement in that GTA Race.

Yeah it's a viral achievement. So you can get it from whoever has the achievement.

Also what's the deal with Kiki. So I pick up Kiki on a bike, a few blocks away i hit a pole and she breaks up with me.

Why can't she be more like Alex. I took her out drinking and on the way back to her place, I got into accident and the vehicle caught on fire. I made it but Alex didn't, she died when the vehicle blew up. After 2 days (In game days) I get a call from her to pick her up from the hospital . She didn't break up with me, she acted like nothing happened. That girl is a trooper

That's where multiplayer comes in. I've honestly put more time in free mode online than the actually story and other online modes combined.

I thought I would get bored with it quickly, but surprisingly I find myself going back to it every time I pop it in.

since we're sharing stories of crazy times in liberty city i thought i'd post one.

my brother-in-law and i were taking turns raising hell in GTA4. during his turn he picked up a hooker and took her to one of the gas stations. during his $70 special a hummer slammed full speed into one of the gas pumps destroying the station as niko and his fat hooker were doing the dirty. we still can't figure out why the hummer launched into the gas pump.

Yeah, I feel the same way. Got 100% on May 14th, and just haven't played it lately. Its a fun game but just isn't much else after 100%. Sure, there's multiplayer but to me, its decent, not great yet not bad.

What has me hooked then? Ninja Gaiden 2. It's SO intense, so much fun. Can't stop playing it, got it yesterday. :D

Yeah, I think thats a big part of it. GTA III everything was like crazy and new. I personally hated Vice City, so thats not part of the equation here... something to do with my hatred of 80's music. But in San Andreas there were jet packs and casinos and fighter jets and skydiving and bicycles among other things. In GTA IV its almost a step backward as far as the free roaming sandbox stuff opportunities. That and you can get a wanted star for as little as shoving someone, whereas I could run down the sidewalk with a chainsaw and cut through a dozen people in SA before that would happen.

Though I think the big difference between the two is that I didn't have Call of Duty 4 multiplayer when I was playing the previous GTA games.
Well GTAIV's biggest thing is that it was designed more realistic thus contrasting against SA.
Yeah, thats true. But both games have pros and cons.

Can anyone tell me why the cars no longer talk in regards to the GPS? Not a single car i've gotten in to tells me directions anymore. How do you turn that back on?

Also, do the initial loading screens ever change as you progress through the game? I remember in the past GTA's that they changed, based on game progress...

The only car that I can initially think of for the GPS is the cadillac escalade and the Hummer (IIRC). Also, you can turn the GPS off in the options (there are two GPS options, one is the car talking GPS while the other is the green line on the map when you put a marker destination).

As for the loading screen, nope. It doesn't change. I've seen the same loading screen throughout the entire game, even at 100%, which I am, it still is the same. Not that I don't mind looking at Lola for some time.

INteresting. Thanks.

beat the game last night. So I jumped onto multiplayer for the first time, tried the cops and robbers match first. About two minutes in to my first match ever killed a guy from a distance with a pistol... achievement unlocked "Kill a rockstar"

Unbelievable I know. But I was there. I know it happened. Not that it wasn't dumb luck because I didn't even know what the hell I was doing, but one of my prouder gaming moments.
Actually I've seen an additional screen when loading, after the dominoes screen I saw a hooker talking to a guy in a car.
It's always there. It just depends on how long it takes to load.
It's always there. It just depends on how long it takes to load.
I saw it for the first time when my friend's ps3 froze haha. If you want to see it unplug the internet while it's loading. It'll freeze the xbox too briefly.

Ah, just saw it after I beat the game so who knows.

Anyway the Rockstar Achievement is being given to everyone who participates in multiplayer today. I did it earlier and once you do get it you get the Zombie suit for the player model, I turned that on and hoped on, and it turned into everyone trying to kill me to get the achievement for some reason.

Can someone explain what it takes to get the "Teamplayer" achievement? It says "Kill 5 players who are not in your team, in any ranked multiplayer team game." I've gotten "Top Of The Food Chain" (Kill 20 players with a pistol in a ranked multiplayer deathmatch) so I've obviously killed more than five, and I've done that both in team deathmatch with a friend and on deathmatch alone...yet still no "Teamplayer" achievement. In fact, I MOSTLY play team deathmatch with one other friend when I'm playing GTA IV multiplayer, and I'm sure I've gotten at least five kills every time.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Do you have to kill five in a row without dying inbetween? Or does it mean a 5:1 ratio at the end of the match or something?

Nah, that's a different guy: Pathos, not OG Loc. Though I've heard there's an OG Loc CD at one of the safe houses.

How do you date the chick from craplist.com? I replied to the ad a long time ago and her stat comes up as 50% fondness in the pause menu, but I have no new emails and I don't have a number to call.
Yeah, I found those. Does anyone know if there is a map that tells where the bonus friend side missions are?
http://bp3.blogger.com/_BWG0cw2AwlY...me258/s1600-h/gtamaps_randompedestrians--.jpg

Some of them are only available at certain times I think.
I don't even know who she is??? Kiki dumped me:cry: Now how am I supposed to get away from the cops;);):lol::lol:(:twoguns:)
I was dogging Kiki for her lack of usefulness a while back, but I totally take it back. Her ability has saved my ass numerous times on missions.
Some are not listed that I found, like there is one by Dwayne's apartment and the guys name is Jeff.
It looks like there are two guys near Dwayne's apartment on that map. His apartment is in the NE part of Algonquin (the area with the X's).

Has anyone else done this?

In Freeroam I flew a helicopter towards the empire state building, Jumped out, Hit the building, Fell 40 or 50 stories and survived. I was still stuck on a landing like 60 stories high though. Here's the kicker: I had more than half of my health left.

My bad, I was looking at the wrong island:oops::oops::oops::oops:

Have You tried any other Team based game? I think I got mine in Cops & Crooks.

Just remember that the missions for Jeff, Cherise, Ivan, and the one dude you kill/don't kill for the UL Paper mission do not have to be completed for the liberty city achievement.
