10. Halo 2

Basing my scores off of what I gave games on my IGN gamelist. There are certain games that had improved versions and/or prequels, like Halo, but I felt the sequels were better. Halo 2 was pretty much Halo 1 with Live abilities and that was enough for me, and there was a battle net version of Warcraft 2 but I played it on Kali for 7 or 8 years and the original was what kept me playing it.

I'll try to keep my list diverse instead of listing all RPGs, etc. Although this list is waaaay to inaccurate, but oh well:

I'm surprised more people aren't saying Ocarina of Time, that is the best game I have ever played.

A lot of those lists seem to be influenced by hype and/or nostalgia, though.

Then you havent played every zelda game there is. I think Oot sucked. The gameboy and the snes games are the best in the series. At least in my opinion. Just becuase you love a game odesnt everyone else will. I think there will be more snes rpgs voted apon because they are truely groud breaking rpgs.

1. Chrono Trigger
2. Xenogears
3. Shadow Hearts Covenant
4. Chrono Cross
5. Secret of Mana
6. Final Fantasy VI
7. Final Fantasy VII
8. Shadow Hearts
9. Metal Gear Solid
10. Metal Gear Solid 2

Honorable Mention: God of War, Vagrant Story

That's just nostalgia talking, OoT was the best Zelda, followed by links Awakening.

The NES version sucked, and LttP was the first real good Zelda game.

That is why everyone loves LttP and the NES Legend of Zelda, they came first and were not judged next to the future Zelda games, and when you played the newer games you still had that nostalgic feeling for the old games.

Nostalgia sucks.

Ya know, videogames existed prior to 1990. Let me give you some examples:

1. Ms. Pac-Man (sequel to Pac-Man but better)
2. Missile Command (a great shoot-em up)
3. Adventure (randomized hide-n-seek w/ killer dragons)
4. Haunted House (first horror-survival title)
5. Defender 2 (side-scrolling alien insanity)

6. Elite (open-ended space adventure - start poor, trade with neighboring planets, and retire rich!)
7. The Original Pirates (open-ended, non-linear RPG in the age of exploration)
8. Karateka (first great fighting game)
9. Breakout (simple - hit the ball against the wall - but still addictive)
10. Combat (kill your friend's tank, before he kills you)

There are probably more I'm forgetting. There are lots of great games that pre-date the Nintendo systems (circa 1980-85). Make sure to check them out, instead of just confining yourself to 1990 and later.

FF7's not the worst game.

Nor is it the best.

It's just mediocre..... somewhere in the middle of the FF series.

Hey troy, these are opinions... Why are you telling the other posters that they are wrong if they didn't list the games that you would have.
In my opinion there isn't a single vintage arcade game or atari 2600 game that I would put in my top 100... Why? Because personally none really could hold my attention for more than say 30 minutes at a time even when that was all I had to play.

10. Mike Tyson's Punch Out
9. Goldeneye 007
8. Resident Evil
7. Super Mario Bros. 3
6. Sonic 3 Locked onto Sonic and Knuckles
5. KOTOR
4. Shinobi 3
Hey troy, why are you telling the other posters that they are wrong if they didn't list the games that you would have.
STRAWMAN ARGUMENT. I didn't say their opinion was wrong.

I said that it's MY opinion that FF7 doesn't belong in the top 10. ----- It's my opinion, that if you're going to list Final Fantasy, don't list 7. There are better versions of FF out there (like 10, 9, 6, 4, or even 5).

IMHO the only FFs that are worse than 7 are the original NES ones (1/2/3). Everything else is superior.

As for older games, I didn't say anybody was wrong there either. I was just trying to *remind* people that there was a whole world of GREAT games prior to the Super Nintendo. When you look at some people's lists, it's as though videogames never existed prior to 1990! I just wanted to remind them about the great 70s & 80s games:

Ms. Pac-Man, Missile Command, Adventure, Haunted House, Defender 2, Elite, The Original Pirates, Karateka, Breakout, Combat, The Original Mario Bros

And while you're right, some of these games only hold your attention for 30-60 minutes, they have infinite replayability. I've been playing Pac-Man for nearly 25 years! (Show me a modern game with that longevity... very few... DDR, Monkey Ball, and that's about it.)

troy

1) Final Fantasy VI (3)
2) Baldur's Gate II Shadows of Amn
3) WarCraft II
4)Super Mario Brothers
5) Super Smash Brothers
6) KOTOR
7) Zelda
8) Quake II
9) Baldur's Gate
10) Unreal Tournament (PC)

Honorable mentions Gran Theft Auto series, Gran Turismo series, Metroid series. I'm sure I'm forgetting a ton of stuff. Ultima Online in its hayday early 1999 or late 1998 there was no better game. It sucks now.

Troy I was not making a Strawman Argument. You didn't state your position as an opinion, you stated it as fact... Here are your exact words

What Strawman did i build up and knock down?
Troy I was not making a Strawman Argument. You didn't state your position as an opinion, you stated it as fact...
No, my statement was my *opinion*. Anything that is posted under my name is, by definition, "an opinion by electrictroy".

A fact would have a reference/citation... which I did not do. Nor did I claim "FF7 is not the best FF" was a fact. It was *always* just my opinion.

You mis-interpreted it to be a fact. That's an error on your side.

Nor did I say "your opinion is wrong". That's a strawman you built yourself, because those words did not come from my mouth. Those words came from your fake strawman.
