Not that anybody's asked, but if anybody's on the fence about it, I'm actually really enjoying Magicians and Looters so far. And  I'm generally not that into 2D Metroidvanias. Impressions below.

The character profile art is pretty atrocious, though the sprites and backgrounds aren't horrible. The humor is a bit hit or miss, but when it hits it's generally at least snigger worthy, and even when it misses it isn't painful. Combat's a little simplistic, but it works and it seems like there's definitely going to be a bit of challenge there. Despite the three characters having very similar abilities, the control and stats feel different enough to cater to different play styles; and, while I haven't played too much as yet, the control is still similar enough that it doesn't feel like a slog to use the characters you don't prefer in order to get access to places only they can go. Equipment so far seems varied and helps to further define your playstyle, and the money seems plentiful enough that you don't feel like you have to grind a lot just to grab equipment, while not being so common that you'll be able to afford everything a few times over when you run into a new shop. Leveling up might be a little underpowered compared to what you get in equipment, but I'm pretty early in. And the music doesn't make me cringe or anything.

Thanks for the write up I bought this bundle today sans Spice game and monster arena (Spice game doesn't look like my type of game and monster arena looks like garbage). I will be playing likely the platformer first and give my impressions as I play games.

Bah, we loved Breaking Bad. I dunno what the 'seeking legends' show would be and I don't think the missus would like Game of Thrones. She's not that into sci-fi or fantasy movies and shows.
If it helps, let her know that there really isn't much fantasy to it. The fantasy stuff is kind of alluded to, or touched on lightly. Mostly, it forms the backdrop for political intrigue. I've had a number of friends who are strongly averse to any fantasy stuff, and they've managed to get into the show. She might not be able to get past the fantasy, but I thought I'd mention it if she's at all into political intrigue/battle of wits type stuff.

Yup, that. Game of Thrones has very, very little fantasy involved. It's just set in a medieval time period, where some fantasy legends exist. Granted the very first episode has a bit of that fantasy, but the vast majority is all about the political intrigue, character interaction, and just a very well written story.

And boobs. Boobs everywhere.

Those last pairs of points are more reasons the missus wouldn't like it ;)

That's a valid reason, lol. Personally I think it adds more realism to the show. Sex and nudity happens in real life, yet most shows and movies have to chop it out simply to appeal to a wider audience. Game of Thrones is gritty and gives you a very real experience, which is refreshing. Sex and nudity certainly isn't the focus of the show, in any case.

In the last season they really went too far IMO and spoiled the sense of immersiveness several times for me.

I don't know, man. I'm always nude IRL, showing off my boobage so I'm pretty sure the show is realistic.

He dismissed Legend of the Seeker (based on The Sword of Truth) because of "sword"... yeah, no.

I didn't dismiss it because of "Sword", I dismissed it because of my wife's dislike of "Swordy and Spacey TV Shows and Movies".

There's a big difference dagnabbit!

I'm still trying to warm her up to the idea of watching the rest of Firefly with me.

No offense meant to the lady, but her tastes sound really bland and uninspired.

And Firefly is stupendous. Oh Kaylee... I would wife you in a heartbeat.

She has some pre-conceptions of sci-fi I think.

Firefly looks great, I've watched the first few episodes but I'm holding off on the rest because I think when my wife get's past the sci-fi setting she'll like it.

Does she just dislike the sci-fi theme? Or has she seen too many shitty sci-fis, making her hesitant to watch more? Or is she not a fellow geek?

I'm sorry, it hurts my poor brain to understand why someone would dislike both sci-fi and fantasy. The real world sucks, so I can't imagine only watching shows about it.

Seeker was really good but it got too complacent by the end of the second season. IDK if the books got better but it dragged a little there.

Yep, maybe (not with me though) and are you accusing me of being a geek? Just because I hoard video games and like sci-fi/fantasy does NOT make me a gee....ok, you got me =/

Just tell her it has a bunch of wieners, too.

Lots of floppy wieners.
American Horror Story this season had a scene where Kathy Bates took the daughter's boyfriend and had him play a little game of guess what's in the bowl when he sticks his hand in it while blindfolded.

'Uh, sausages?'

'No...'

OK, I'll try that. But if it doesn't she's gonna be sooooooooo mad =/

Seriously though, although men happily watch shows with boobies in them ... most women don't feel the same way about watching shows with wieners in them.

Back on topic (ha) I grabbed the Greenlight Bundle and... skipped the two Strategy games and Monster Challenge Circus. That game just looks like a trainwreck.

I've only seen the first season so far, so I dunno.
Hard for me to remember back three years, but as I recall there was nothing in the first season that particularly disturbed me. The second season was a bit more problematic, and the third season had some "oh, come ON!" scenes - far too many. Adding in this whole subplot that didn't exist in the book about the inexperienced page being some kind of magical Adonis in bed just to show more hookers with naked tits when there was so much great stuff in book three that didn't make the cut left a REALLY bad taste in my mouth. Not to mention the fact that 70% of the boobs are on nameless faces with zero characterization...I swear HBO has a quota that they have to fill, and they're upping it every season. I really hope the emphasis on action this season leaves little time for this nonsense, because they're just embarrassing themselves as far as I'm concerned.

Why GOT has so much nudity (sorry about the Gawker link, didn't find one to the video directly)

Don't do it, man. Um, really hard to say why without spoilers...just trust me. At least watch it yourself first.

I'm not bothered by the nudity (I wasn't raised with crazy Puritanical norms.)

GOT Season 1 was awsome.  Season 2 just felt so drawn out.  I haven't seen Season 3 yet.

Have you considered that you might be a dork or a dweeb? ;)
No way, and I'm not a nerd either before you say it.

I'm just a really cool, sophisticated, handsome, funny and incredibly modest, closet geek.

Although if you saw me walking down the street you'd simply think I was awesome.

I'd of course modestly disagree if you said so though. =P

Countess Burgula responds:

Not necessarily, it depends on whom the wiener is attached to.

Also, most women don't mind melons. :)

so you're a Neat Educated Radical Dude?

I tried out Savage for an hour....wait for a later release I say. It has potential but is kind of buggy and lacks direction in game. A lot of times the music wouldn't stop playing, not sure saving actually works, dropping items doesn't seem to work. It has potential and a good soundtrack but not very playable currently. Fighting and jumping is also slightly lagged like animations used make it where you have a better chance to get hurt. I want to give it a yes but in it's current condition it's just not great, it could be very fun though.

I actually tried that for a few minutes last night. It's very much a work in progress IMO, but not sure if they are still working on it. The graphics are very much inspired by Manhunt (even the faces). There is incomprehensible telling through out the game, but they provide a translation. It plays like an aRPG so right click to move, left click to attack or something like that. Camera angles could use a lot of work. Overall nothing I think I'll sink too much time in.

It is gratuitous, but it would have been more jarring for the scenes which take place in a brothel not to have any nudity or sex. I was more put off by the marital rape in Season 1, but obviously that was essential to plot and character development.

The thing that's always bugged me about the series is that they don't do a good job at scaling up the impression of size of that capital city (except in those cool intro animations). The place feels like it consists of a single castle, a not-all-that-long wall, and maybe an alley or two. Populated by the principals and 50 extras. That fight on the beach in Season 2 or 3 looked like it was on a theatrical stage.

Thanks for sharing your impressions.

Personally, whenever I buy these Greenlight or IR Debut bundles, I feel like I'm investing in the future of the game more than I'm purchasing the game at the current time. I'm deciding if I like the concept and what they've accomplished so far, then contributing to the ongoing development and probably getting a Steam key for the finished, or at least a more finished product down the road. I think of it like Kickstarter, but with a lot less risk at only a quarter per game. That's not to say you shouldn't be cautious when selecting games in a bundle like this, just that you usually get more out of these types of bundles in the long run than the here and now.

In many ways yes esp when they say it's in Alpha such as Savage and monster whatever. When it's considered complete or considered for release then I can be way more critical of it, such as when I try Drive to Hell, which if I remember right had the release date pass in the trailer. If that sucks I'll be honest, unlike how I put for Savage that it was buggy and some functions didn't work, but overall seemed okay for the future but not great in it's current state.

Just looked at the bundle lineup. All seems somewhat interesting, except Monster challenge circus, trace vector and heroes of a broken land. I love dungeon crawlers, but that last one looks very bad.

Savage looks promising, just as magicians & looters. Spice road looks... interesting, I'm curious about it. Still can't see what's paper dungeon main gameplay, but I don't like the word "puzzle" on the description, I've seen a lot of crap using that description lately. And about Drive to Hell... it looks... fun, at least the name and the graphics are ok.

I'll second this opinion. I didn't last an hour, but it was mostly because of frustration. My main gripe is that currently the Esc button exits the game entirely. So of course I naturally press it every time I want to exit my inventory and well... start all over again.

Music is good though, art style I enjoy, there's a story to it, etc. I did notice lag in jumps and combat and trying to jump and attack at the same time was very difficult, but overall it has a ton of potential.

Edit:

And apparently the Paper Dungeons game is a pre-order not available on Desura for 5 more days so I guess no quick impressions for that one.

You... play games not on Steam? What is this madness?
I do whenever I'm feeling adventurous. In fact I just played Trace Vector. I was surprised to actually like the game.

It's really simple. You are guiding a ship through a path and you just press up and down to choose which way to go. The challenge lies in the speed (and you get to slow down the game at times with the space button) and the fact you need to try to collect as many fuel cells along the way and avoid any dead ends. It actually gets pretty challenging trying to remember the sequence you need to press.

It's almost like a horizontal Dance Dance Revolution in a way. Nothing too deep and could look a lot better but the music isn't bad and the presentation is pretty good. I could see myself actually trying to complete the adventure mode. They have a endless mode too if you want a challenge.

If anyone's curious about the film in the steampunk bundle:  It's got a very "Bridge to Terabithia" feel, although it starts off about where that story ends.  It's a story about two boys and their way of coping with their best friend's death.  Their primary coping method seems to be inventing time travel so they can go back and save her from the tragic accident that they both feel partially responsible for.  Despite how silly it sounds, the story does work, and I did find myself caring about what happened to the characters.  Unfortunately, there's some very lazy writing where the characters share literally everything they know with one another in between every scene.  It ends up coming across like everyone knows everything all the time, and it's extremely distracting.

If you find that you still enjoy good ideas that are poorly written, give it a look.  But if you want to get swept up in a story, the characters who know everything will keep dragging you back out.

Thanks for the thoughts on it. I bought in last night once I saw the movie unlock. Seemed like it could be decent so for $1 I thought I'd give it a try.

Back to the first impressions - Magicians and Looters:

This is the gem of the bundle to me so far. It's a pretty simple game so far. Just a platformer with some combat (simple combat) but the game has a lot of good humor in the dialogue (written dialogue, no voiceovers). I'm stuck in the second stage, but I can see myself playing this one until the end if the dialogue remains entertaining.

Edit:

And Drive to Hell:

Another good one here. Just a shooter really so nothing too new, but it's done nicely and is pretty challenging. Don't know if I'll ever finish it since it is challenging, but it was fun for a romp.

I played Drive to Hell as well. Very polished, okay midi-ish music. Controls great with a controller and was pretty fun. I also like it how your multiplier also controls your nitro for quick movements. Very fun overall and way better than the trailer suggests. I will probably finish the game on normal at least but it's great for a shump.

It also apparently comes in some sort of bizarro world format, because I can't play it. Not without downloading some video play specifically to play this one file, screw that.
