WHEN REPORTING TRADE-IN VALUES PLEASE POST BASE VALUES & SYSTEM IT IS FOR.

First post contains promo information & useful information and frequently asked questions. Second post has the values for games/hardware for Microsoft devices. Third post has the values for games/hardware for Nintendo consoles and the fourth post has the values for Nintendo handhelds. Fifth post has the values for games/hardware for Sony consoles and the sixth post has the values for Sony handhelds.

These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.


What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2) *Fat unit requires either back cover or network adapter*
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60.
No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

Man this reminded me of when a GS employee who was obviously in need of preorders was telling me to just come in a preorder a bunch of games off him, keep the bonuses and just return them later. I even asked him if GS would notice eventually. "No way!" heh.

Also a few days before the PS4 reveal I was trading in some stuff and used the excuse that I was saving the credit for a PS4 to get him to to stop ask me about preordering games.

The guy goes "Yeah, I just got to see the new PS4 yesterday at a special conference for GS employees at the Javitz Center. The system itself looks reaaaallly nice."
Of course internally I doubted this, no way Sony shows the system to random GS employees before even the Press and Investors but I kept it to myself.
I had a nice chuckle when it turned out Sony didn't even show the system itself on the 20th.
 
why do people hate gamestop so much...bby?? people bitch all the time about them, but without them would we even have cag??? it seems as tho the companies arent bad...its more the douchebag employees...imguess i get sick of the wasted forum space on complaining about thse companies. on the other hand it is entertaining to hear these stories.

If GS puts restrictions on anyone, it's usually on a store based level. I got flagged once in a Gamestop some 100 miles away for returning 2 games, telling me that Gamestop has a strict return policy. I never been there before prior to this. I left him a nasty survey.

Seriously, why offer a return policy if you're going to flag everyone who returns games? He must be new on the job or something.

any junior detective will get defensive if they catch a whiff of anybody returning games to keep preorder bonuses. it's a practice that's understandable. for some reason some gamers (and cags) think it's not stealing. why they can rationalize that makes no sense lol.

so it's understandable when some employees want to flag you. in your case, the dude just was over the top.

It not store based. It more like Regional. And if u get banned from GameStop they will ban ur power up account. I was banned from GameStop in all of New York. And my account was closed. If came down from the main office. They send out a email. With my name and all my info. I hope to god that I don't face any legal action. They said that I do a lot and I mean a lot of returns. That true. But the problem is that I suffer from real bad OCD. So my case has to be in Perfect Condition. If not I will make up some story to get it exchange. So like if I buy dmc. I will also buy dead space 3. Just for the case and flip flop the case and then return back dead space 3. But I keep on doing. But in the email it said I cannot do any more return. But I can still buy.
Also when I buy games I have to look at all of them. Like I am cool with all the workers at GameStop. They will take out all the games I am buying and I will pick the best one. Every GameStop in the Bronx and manhattan know me.
 
Yeah...I don't go that overboard lol, but I'll be sure not to return anything at all unless its actually broken until I leave the area. Just makes me laugh that out of all the flipping and stuff I used to do, I get flagged for 1 return. I expected to get banned from Best Buy long before GS would even warn me

That was rather extreme XD I was still able to make returns in the same district as the Gamestop I was return banned.

There have been Sony exclusive events that were held in each major city for GS employees in spring 2011 and 2012, but it was only for SM's and ASM's. They got free PS3's or Vita's if they didn't already have one.

Oh yeah, that kind of stuff I am aware of. In this case I just seriously doubted the guy because I don't think a non SM or ASM employee would have got to see it in the circumstances he provided.

Plus he claimed to have seen the actual system. But I guess I cant blame him for that, I totally expected Sony to show us what it looked like.
 
with all the games to download for vita, especially considering the instant collection ("free" games) to entice plus memberships youd think Sony would desperately want 32gb cards in every Vita. otherwise what good is signing up for plus if you cant even play the games without spending another $100?

Right figured that employee was an idiot but just wanted to say there were events and maybe that idiot got confused by what his bosses said.

Damn....Gamestop is showing they'll give me $415 for my 32gb ipad 4 in like new condition (which its been in an Otterbix since day one)..that AND around $105 more through the 25% bonus...that's $520.

Very tempting considering I only paid $500 for it brand new on craigslist. If only that was $520 cash value :/

I wonder if I could buy a couple games then turn around and resell the leftover, say, $450 gift card for $425 cash or so to someone.

Thanks - last time I checked it was 299 base - kept my charger and lightning cable since they were going to give me a dollar - got $519.31 for it.

PS4 is paid for...and I still have $300 more credit left for games.

You get $30 guaranteed credit if you trade it within 1 month. Either you get a credit applied to get it to 30 or if some other promo bumps it over 30 you get that instead.

Just purchase the games and only download what you want to currently play. That's what I do. Seems Sony changed things though so it downloads automatically when you purchase, which kinda sucks. Gotta download then delete or stop the download while downloading. Not sure if that will end up fragmenting your hard drive files.

That's about correct. The $10 deal adds an additional $3.33 to each game (I believe). So the closest you can get is around $11.13 which, with the 30% is $3.339. So $11.13 would be the break even.
 
Well I decided to use the Steal of the Week for 50% trade bonus for buying Gears of War:Judgement. I was not really interested in buying it at launch but the extra 20% gave me $27 more in trade. Pretty much that mean the game cost me $33 and it has a guarantee TIV of $30 until April 18th so I essetially get a one month rental for $3 and I can be done with it. I did see someone reported a $27 TIV which hopefully will hold because if by next week I am done I might trade it towards GTA V for $37.8 after PUR and Bonus.

Awesome, so the deal did come out to around $520..

Still debating on trading mine in. Ebay would be easier to get cash, but a 32gb "like new" would only net around $530ish, and shipping + fees would take around $60 of that.

I want a new handgun, so I'd really prefer the cash, but I'm sure I could sell a GS gift card somewhat fast. That, or just wait for someone off Craigslist to hit me up :roll:

Wait. It was 1 that had Liberty City on it. It was in with a bunch of games that was given to me, so I know nothing about it.

Supply probably isn't an issue with those games, plenty in each store and at the warehouse. Now if stock was as low as it is for LFD 1/2, MUA 2 (and MUA 1 on PS3,) Tales of Vesperia, Metro 2033, Bully, NFS MW 2005, etc. then you'll see the TIV jump up.

I apologize if this has been asked before but this is my first time in this thread and starting to trade but do the values you guys post reflect the 10% TiV included with the PUR bonus? I know it's not a lot but if I trade in a lot of games it adds up, heh.

These are the BASE TiV's, the amount you get before ANY bonus. That way we can decide what bonus is best for which game.

Yeah 99% of the time, every once in a while you get people posting a TIV with bonuses already added.
