FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and cut the trade-in value in half. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases made with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases:Arkansas, California, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania,
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases:Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Wisconsin, Virginia,

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has PSP/DS values.

soooo, i need some QUICK cash. I'm not entirely sure when my little paypal deposit will go into my bank account...hopefully tomorrow, but idk since i sent the money yesterday around 5:00. Wachovia is usually good with getting it in there quick.

anyways...since im in a bind, i need a quick buck...so are y'all pretty sure L4D2 si $29.xx and ME2 is $35 TIV?

i need cash, so im willing to take the 20% hit...im just wondering if both these game's TIVs are correct...because id prefer to sell my L4D2 for around $25 to them instead of my ME2 CE, which i know i could get around $50 for on here

You wont get the promo to apply to cash deals. i use to work there soo 20% hit would come of base value sorry.. :(

It had to of gotten around, every GS I've been to have 3+ copies of ME2, but 0 Bioshock 2 or other pretty recent releases.

Call of Duty : World at War
Base : $12.75
W/ bonus and edge : $20.41

ME2 still $35, both on trade-in board and verbally by employee. Said it was a pretty popular trade-in (I wanted to say, no sh*t).

no dude, im perfectly aware of that haha...but since ive raped L4D2, i would gladly take the base value -20% IF the base value right now is $29.xx. last time i checked on here it was like $18...so im assuming it got hot real quick and they need more used copies of it.

i just dont wanna have my hopes up and go to the store for them to say, welll, we can give you $14 cash :/

We've had people post that value today so it should still be good today on Left 4 Dead 2.

Updated lists and database again.

Just got back and got $44.63 w/out edge, so I'm sure about this one just don't expect it to stay at this price for more than day or 2 more.

Trades from today, 2/23, in the form base/with-bonuses [change from OP]

GTA: Chinatown Wars (DS): 6.00/9.60 [no change]
Rayman Raving Rabbids (Wii): 4.00/6.40 [no change]

Renewed my Edge card with the earnings. The Edge card + magazine I don't want cost me $15.89 after tax, leaving me with 11 cents on the card. I hope I can manage to make it worth it in the 365 days to come. All previous times I had an edge card it was through the $2 mail-in deal. I sure wish that was still working. This time I'm going to keep a good record to see if it is worth it so I can make an informed decision next year.

excellent! luckily there's a gamestop right around where im meeting my girlfriend, so i can stop by it before i see her. hells yeaaaa, trading a game for romance and zaxbys!

Updated lists and database again. I'm going to try and stay on top of these values as much as possible. I know with a promotion like this a single day could make a difference in the values so I want to keep everything as current as possible.
Romance and Zaxbys should not be in the same sentence.
haha, true...well, romance as-in seeing my girlfriend and eating together there :p

Just called and M&L: Bowser's Inside Story is still $20. Looks like that is out the door, and $16.50 after bonus for Glory of Heracles is tempting as well.
Romance and Zaxbys should not be in the same sentence.
The ladies love Zaxby's fried pickles. Fact!
Anyone else verify this?
I traded in Madden for the PS3 and didn't get a $5 bonus, so I guess it's a YMMV.
The fact that Im going striaght to GS and make ~$14 on this transaction. Flipping 101
Do teach more oh wise one.

Oh wait, I forgot that bragging thread is elsewhere.

I am thinking this is too good to be true. I wanna trade in Uncharted 2. That's 37.50. If I have an Edge card, does that equal 40 bucks?

Also, if i trade in KZ2 and Uncharted 2, does it count for the God of War 3 deal?

Don't believe the hype, ME2 is still trading in for $35 base as of this afternoon. I wouldn't wait until tomorrow if I were you. There is no way GS/EB will let this go on more than a couple days.
Do teach more oh wise one.

you're taking it way out of context. someone else was saying his previous post had no bearing on this thread, to which he replied with that statement further explaining how it did and they both played it off as if they didn't get schooled

so add a third to the list i suppose

it would be better to get the credit for both games and just buy it regularly, actually
IAlso, if i trade in KZ2 and Uncharted 2, does it count for the God of War 3 deal?
cannot combine promotions. go with the 50% extra

Thanks to everyone who always kindly posts tivs to these threads. Here are my (base) values from this afternoon:

Left 4 Dead 2 :360: - 29.75
Tekken 6 :360: - 20.75
Metroid Prime :gc: - 0.75
Mario Kart :ds: - 20.00
Darksiders :360: 24.00
Planet 51 :360: 7.75 (picked up at Best Buy on my way to GS for 7.99 on (ymmv) clearance, traded for a total of 12.41)
Dragon Age: Origins :360: 21.25

Im tempted to try and buy some cheap games off of craigslist and other places and flip them for credit. For instance I see Uncharted 2 on Criagslist for $30 right now....with the promotion and Edge it comes out to almost $40.

Don't think KZ2 is part of the GoWIII Promotion.
cannot combine promotions. go with the 50% extra
Ok thanks for clariyfying that. But I can get 40 bucks for UC2 with an edge card?

id bet it is cause uncharted 1 is, trades in for more than uncharted 1, and they sell the game for 60 new.

i saw the list yesterday but didn't really remember much besides uncharted 1

Man I am about to go up to gamestop and sell some of my PS2 games as well as borderlands. I see that Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks is $4 on the link in the first page. Is this an error?

UFC Undisputed - $15 base
Marvel Ultimate Alliance - $7 base

both PS3

i got about $35 total with edge(the guy gave me the extra 10% even though my EDGE expired)

$35 credit plus $20 off a used game with the heavy rain coupon = $3 AVP for me :D

if you're planning to pick up heavy rain and own a game

trade in used game (56 with edge mass effect 2)
buy heavy rain
use heavy rain coupon (25% off used)
buy back your game ($55 -> 35.75 w/ edge)

56 - 36 = $20 gain
50
Hmmm so $80 for trading it towards a new system. Tempting, I just wish the DS2 was announced already.....
i saw that coupon and was going to do that, but they had no copies of mass effect 2 and I didnt feel like driving to 3 stores today
ask them if you could buy back your own copy, but that'll flag them and they'll flat out say no, even if they have no idea why you're doing it.

Suprising! Are these TIVs after the 50% bonus?

No, they're "base" values.

I'll be trading in Tekken in a few minutes for about $30, so that'll be my MLB2k10 and FF13 paid for in full, maybe a few dollars I'll need to pay.

L4D2
Madden10
Tekken 6

for 2 top new releases. L4D2 and Madden I used the extra $10 instead of the 50% too, I could've had a points card and 2 new games probably.

Nice doing business gamestop. $35 points card coming from amazon and it's a beautiful day. I hope we can see more 50% bonuses for when I want to sell those 2 games back.
Man I am about to go up to gamestop and sell some of my PS2 games as well as borderlands. I see that Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks is $4 on the link in the first page. Is this an error?
The values are maintained by us the cag community so as the bold print JP adds states they may not be accurate as it could have been a long time ago that game was updated and it is last update was 10/09 so its probably dropped since then.

Looking at the Shaolin Monks price it was 10/17/09 and the game page shows the same with the update coming 111 days ago. I would figure that has probably dropped by a couple dollars, but could be wrong. Anything old than 3 days is likely no longer accurate. On a promo like this, the newer games quotes older than a day are probably no longer accurate.

Alright I made it out one happy camper today, here are my Base values:

All XBOX 360 btw
Left 4 Dead 2 - 29.75
Street Fighter 4 - 3.00
Grand Theft Auto 4 - 4.00
Halo 3 - 6.00
Dead Space - 6.00
Resident Evil 5 - 6.50
PGR 4 - 3.00
COD4 MW - 5.00
BF Bad Company - 7.00
Blue Dragon - 2.25
Lego Indy/KungFu Panda pack - 2.00
Tekken 6 - 20.75
Xmen Origins Wolverine - 7.25
Left 4 Dead - 7.00
Lego Rockband - 10.50
007 Quantum of Solace - 4.00
Simpsons The Game - 7.00
COD WAW - 5.50
Ninja Gaiden 2 - 6.25
Naruto The Broken Bond - 10.00
Wheelman 6.50

Refurb Fees. 2.00 (lol) for a grand total $252.79 after Edge and promo. The lady literally freaked out as if she was the one who had done the trade in, lmfao. Now to wait for the inevitable B2G1 =D

Gamestop changes prices up and down frequently on games, so it's really hard for the CAG database to be completely accurate unless we had someone who worked at Gamestop update each morning when they print out price adjustments. I would have been more than happy to do that, but I no longer work for the company and no longer associate myself with Gamestop at all.

The extra 50% credit is a good deal, but knowing Gamestop they will lower every games TIV and the extra 50% won't be that big of a deal anymore. I've seen them do this kind of stuff many times before when I worked there. They love to make things appear to be a killer deals, but then they manipulate the prices to even out the deal to where they still make some money.
PRO TIP: always check Amazon's TIV's--even after this GS sale, they're still usually higher. For example, Amazon is giving like $32.50 for Bioshock 2 (PS3).
That must be some form of new math? $32.50 (minus packaging materials and hassle) is greater then $40 (25 base + 12.50 bonus + 2.50 edge)??? Even without Edge it's $37.50.
