FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah,
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming
No Information Yet: Connecticut, Idaho, Kentucky, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Dakota, West Virginia

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has DS/PSP/GBA values.

Busy driving around BBV to BBV. So I traded some in when I could. At one, this punk kid wanted to charge me a refurb fee for basic use. I told him to stick it and took the game back.

04/26 Base TIV:

Toy Story Mania(Wii) - 13.50
Guitar Hero: Metallica(Wii) - 7.25
Nerf N-Strik Elite(Wii) - 7.50
Guitar Hero: World Tour(360) - 2.00
Tom Clancy's End War(360) - 4.00

I haven't looked too much in the thread...so some may have already be mentioned.

Base TIV (4/27):

Half Life 2 Orange Box :360:: 7
Forza Motor Sport 2 :360:: 1.50
Warhawk (game only) :ps3:: 3.25
UFC 2009 :ps3:: 6
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 :360:: 24
Madden NFL 2010 :ps3:: 14.25
FIFA Soccer 2010 :ps3:: 24.50
Grid :ps3:: 10
Tiger Woods 2010 :ps3:: 9.25
Dirt 2 :ps3:: 12.25
Army of Two: The 40th Day :360:: 16

I traded the last 4 to pre order Red Dead & UFC 2010...they gave me some credit back from those 4 games. It looks like the guy gave me the 30% on AOT: 40th and still take off $40 for UFC, because I got $20.80 (16*1.3) and only owe $20. Also I got $22.88 for Dirt 2; it says underneath it Bonus: 3.68 Promo #8913 and Bonus: -6.95 Price Overide. I'm not sure if both of them (30% extra and $40 off preorder for selected game) can be stacked, think he just made a mistake.

NBA The Inside 10 (PSP) 11.50 - w/ promo & edge $16.10
Gran Turismo (PSP) 12.25 - w/ promo & edge $17.15

Need for Speed Undercover (360) 9.00 - w/ promo & edge $12.60
Resistance Fall of Man (PS3) 4.75 - w/ promo & edge $6.65

i was suprised at the total $58.45, i thought i would of got close to 30 or so, picked up 2010 FWCSA

not bad for games that were just laying around, and that i purchased as "fillers"

[quote name='Velo214']remember you can mix toy story mania and an item from the save $40 list if you have one of those games and want the boost or whatev. titles are subject to change tho, as always.

Mix, what you talking about, I've been just trading 2 at a time of the same game. And then just transfer the preorder to something you really want, like Crackdown 2.

i only have 1 toy story mania. so that was to help others who only have one, like me(mixing w call of juarez) or cant trade in 2 at the same time at the same store.

Are you going to the same place? Most aren't supposed to let you trade in 2 of the same....goes under "no dealer." They just try not to allow people to abuse the system. It all depends how relax they are at that store and whether they know you.

Dammit, I just realized the Base value for Splinter Cell Conviction is 25... I traded in 4 games last night and decided to opt out on trading in Splinter Cell. Oh well I guess.

The bottom line with GameStop is some stores are full of assholes, some not. Figure out the cool stores, talk to the folks behind the counter and all sorts of flexible behavior will emerge. There is no corporate edict on multiple copies of a single game, it's at the managers discretion.

Hit up Gamestop today to take advantage of their Red Dead Redemption preorder deal, and some additionals for the 30% bonus trade in. Here are the base values:

Super Paper Mario (Wii) 8.75
Bayonetta (360) 14
(Used these two for the $40 credit towards RDR..made out pretty well in the end considering how long I've had Paper Mario and I only paid 20 for Bayonetta in the first place)

Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader? (360) 5.00
Dark Void (360) 11.00
Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing (360) 16.00
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (360) 8.00
The Wheelman (360) 8.00

After promotions, first two = 42.28, other five = 67.20

Just traded in my ds lite for a dsi xl
Base value was 40 + 25
They slapped on a $20 refurb fee because the serial # sticker on the back came off.

You can also mix Toy Story Mania from the now dead Blockbuster BOGO with a copy of Nascar 09 for 360 from the Kmart clearance for $1.99 and get $40 off one of those games for about $10 worth of clearance/sale games.;):D

By doing so, you can essentially get one of those games from the promo for $30(50% off of the $60 games) right on release date.

As long as you're friendly to the employees and drop some pre-orders and actually spend the time to bs(if they're not busy) and get chummy with them they could be VERY lax on those rules, since as was said already it's up to manager's discretion on multiples.

I've probably dropped about $300+ of the $1000+ in credit I've made from sales/clearances and flipping those games to the one particular Gamestop on fully paid pre-orders alone. As long as you do the employees favors by giving them the pre-orders(which I was told again yesterday that their stores do get counted on the pre-orders and EDGE renewals and what not)and aren't a total dick customer, you can get away with ALOT of shit.

The one guy who has an indy game shop here brought in all of his extras of various games(in about 4-5 of those big ass plastic storage tubs)including multiples and ALOT of disc only stuff and they gladly shot the breeze with him while he was giving them probably the largest trade transaction they've ever had. I was there bsing and dropping some multiples at that same store too and I was there for probably a good 45 minutes and they weren't even a quarter of the way done with his trades when I left.

Sickest part is, it was at the store that their district manager uses as his field office, so if any store could've ended up in deep shit over multiples it was definitely that one.

Almost all of the Kmarts by me actually give a shit about getting rid of their clearance stuff for decent prices anymore, which means that the games are properly marked and out where the normal people can find them now too. So no more using a $2 sports game from there to pad a GS trade, since they're almost always all gone by the time they hit $10.:roll:

base TIVs for today (4/27) about 45 minutes ago

:wii: Monsters vs Aliens $6.50
:wii: Toy Story Mania $13.50

:wii: Drawn to Life: Next Chapter $6.50
:wii: Marvel Super Hero Squad $8.75

I stopped by one of my local Gamestops today to flip my two BBV 2-for-1 Toy Story Mania games (I'm allowed to flip multiples) toward Red Dead Redemption. Problem was that I forgot one of the copies at home. So, not wanting to waste the gas knowing I could use the second copy for another flip, I explained to the staff what I was about to do so there were no questions. I then walked over to the used PS3 section, grabbed Call of Juarez BiB, purchased it with my Edge discount, and promptly used it for the second trade-in game of the deal without the disc ever leaving the drawer. All but the $5 pre-order amount went on my card as credit.

That's a lesson in why one should be nice to their local Gamestop staff. :D

The corporate edict pertains not to dealing with resellers. They make sure to attach a disclaimer about it to every deal they have. GS is very anal about being taken advantage of by resellers and flippers, which is why numerous people have been redflagged and banned from trading in. So, yes, there is definitely a corporate edict. If you can find a store that is flexible, that's great for you, but more than likely, corporate is either going to get you banned (if you push it too far) and/or punish the store that is being too flexible.

This is very true. Back in fall of 2008, during a $3.99 HWV sale, I flipped over $2,000 worth of games to GS within a two week period. With the permission of the manager & district manager, they let me trade as many multiples as I wanted (they knew I had receipts for everything). Anyway, loss prevention (corporate) took notice of all the multiples and contacted the store to see what was going on. The store explained the situation to loss prevention, and nothing ever came of it, besides asking me to spread future trades out.

On 4-25 the following still had the same value as in the OP:

360
Dirt
Eternal Sonata
Fallout 3 Point Lookout/Broken Steel
Beautiful Katamari
Tomb Raider Anniversary

Wii
Mario Strikers Charged

The only value drop was:
Wii Metroid Prime 3 5.25 down from 6

I'll work on updating later, assuming I don't flip out and get all stabby. HP and Microsoft are pretty much pointing the finger at each for a problem I'm having and neither are addressing the real problem. I hate those two soooo very much.

TIV's as of 4/22/10

all PS2:

Ghostbusters - $3.50
Dynasty Warriors 6 - $5.75
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror - $2
Samurai Warriors 2: Empires - $2

FFXIII PS3 30.00 4/28

I thought the trade in value was 25.00, but was pleasantly surprised. I got 42.00 with the extra 30% + EDGE

I remember when HP put out quality products. My parents went through 4 or 5 different HP printers while I had the same one for 10 years with no problems (ironically the same model as the first HP one they had issues with.) Got an el cheapo Canon from Walmart last year and it's been smooth sailing so far.

Granted my parents got a new HP printer with wireless for the new laptop my mom bought and it's been great so far.

Well it turned out to not be either of their problems. Slightly an oversight on my part and more of an issue caused by licensing of some AutoCAD software. Working on updating right now.

Updated lists and database.

Can you change your pre-order from Red Dead to something else on the spot after you've traded in? I have no intention of getting it, but I do want to get that $40 credit.

Also, anyone have any luck of a store letting them use the credit towards something that WASN'T a pre-order?

To be fair to the employees I'd let it sit on their future sales forecasts for a while, so they get credit for the preorder. I usually pick mine up and return it.
