I was in GameStop yesterday, picking up a few Xbox games, but when I was waiting in line to pay for them, I saw a guy standing in front of me trying to trade in a few PS2 and 360 games.

I overheard the GS worker telling the guy that he couldn't trade in GTA: San Andreas because they already had too many used copies. Then, I turn to the guy and offer him a buck for San Andreas and, well, I walk away with a sweet game for a buck. :) Unfortunately, I was too late to make an offer on the 360 games(Dead Rising and SC: DA).

But I've never heard of GS doing this before- rejecting a trade-in because they had too many of it. Anyone else ever seen/experienced this?

I'm never seen them turn down a game though I've noticed my local GS has a prominently displayed sign saying they reserve the right to refuse any trade for any reason.

Is it a 1st edition copy with the hot coffee mod? Double check, because GS/EB refuses to take those in for trades. They will take 2nd editions. He probably told the customer they had too many copies just so he didn't have to go into/explain the whole hot coffee ordeal.

Oh yeah, I heard about that. I don't know, but it was non-GH. Is that...good?

Some of the 2nd editions were non-GH. The only way to tell that it's different is a 2nd edition note at the bottom of the insert in the front.

Or try the mod yourself

Yeah, but I didn't think it, the 1st & 2nd edition have different model numbers.

1st edition has the model number: SLUS- 20946

Don't remember what the 2nd edition model number is. But it's UPC is 710425278884

I still have a first edition San Andreas and I'll get the UPC from it later for comparison purposes. But yeah, that MAY have been why they refused to take it in. Either that or they really DID have too many copies of it.

Thanks for posting those numbers. I picked this game up from a garage sale for $5 and was wondering what version it was. It looks like I got the first one.

I know FYE wouldn't take anymore copies of Powerdrome Racing for PS2 after I kept abusing the HELL out of their trade value they gave for it at one time($11-14 a pop). Thing is, the place I was buying it from to trade to them(GS stores) upped the price by 2 bucks now, after having it selling for $1.99 for a while.

How GS prices their games is beyond me, since each store of theirs I've gone to has had 6-9 copies of that game in stock for MONTHS with NO SIGN of them selling ANY.

Either way, the value of that game has dropped to $5-6(IF THAT) at FYE anymore, so no buying another PStwo for approximately $10-15 in GS games for me, I guess.
