Guitar Hero II - General Disscusion - Indie Pack #2 - 3 Songs Up Now

Just the original ones, none of the "Complete X" or "Play X" guitars are needed for the achievement. Otherwise they would completely screw over those without a friend to play with to get the extra Bass guitars. =)
In their face or at home reading the message boards?
In their face, one of the friends IRL actually did that.
Off topic but does Gaming Lagoon's CC offers work with a pre-paid Mastercard?
Not sure about prepaid, but I tried to use a virtual account number on one of my offers through Citicard Mastercard, and was denied.
I don't know, it seemed like he thought the pricing was hard to defend, given the following quote:

"I don't want to defend it: it is what it is." He better be ready to defend it, that's what being the company shill. I love the fact joystiq called him XBOX's mascot in training.

Anyway, CAGs do not forget to use the gamer gift card coupon or the Gamepro coupons and get your point cards at Best Buy. At least this way a 1600 card runs you approx $16 and these songs work out to be more like $1.66 per song. Still priced a little high, but better. I'm in no hurry to purchase these packs, b/c I have tons of songs to unlock in the regualr game, but just wanted to send along the reminder about the Best Buy coupons.
GGCs are getting very hard, if not impossible to find. There's a whole thread about it in Deals & Shopping Discussion. We very well may have seen the last of them. Personally, I haven't seen any in months...but I haven't been looking either.

Karaoke Revolution on xbox 1 actually already did the same thing. One day you you can buy the old songs from the PS2 version. Of course I am sure they are much more reasonable priced.

Bad ass. You laughed at your friend.

Again - to those who are saying "it'll be ok if we can just find some deals on points cards"...that's not the issue, really. Even if I got cards as gifts or something, I'm not likely to spend it on something like this because it would reenforce what I am sure is Microsoft's outlook on this: "Gamers won't be able to resist no matter how much we charge, so their complaining means nothing."

A developer over at Red Octane's message board posted "Harmonix didn't have a say in the pricing of the downloadable content, but you can bet that we're following all the reaction (including the petition) closely." (bottom of Page 8 of this thread)

So, it seems that someone is paying attention to the reaction that this is generating. Equally interesting that Harmonix didn't have a say in the pricing.

I find this to be really disturbing.
The plot thickens...
I don't know exactly. I see the pricing as a collusion between the real people who stand to gain from DLC sales: Activision and Microsoft. Harmonix has nothing to do with it? Well, of course not.
Equally interesting that Harmonix didn't have a say in the pricing.
Not really. Harmonix is no longer associated with Red Octane/Activision. I imagine they were paid for their contribution to the party when they were picked up by MTV games. Hell, I imagine Red Octane has little say in pricing since Activision owns them. Rather than chewing out Red Octane, perhaps emails should be addressed to Activision.

I have a feeling that Activision will wind up seeing or at least hearing about the response that Red Octane gets. Either target is perfectly viable.
Message in a bottle on medium (yes yes, i'm a noob to GH, literally), makes me want to cry. So many dual notes...
Don't feel bad I'm pretty aweful as well . I don't know , 5 stars , man it just seems really hard .
I can't get passed Woman on expert, I'm close I just can't get through the last solo.
Just wait until you get up to Psychobilly Freakout on expert. It's basically random notes and chords strewn all over the fretboard. They shouldn't even bother to play the music in the background while that shit is scrolling.
fuck redoctane/harmonix/activision/microsoft im not paying 6 bucks for 3 songs
and majornelson saying licensing fees thats BS
ya we already covered this, jump on the wagon.

Anyone have any tips for woman on hard? It almost seems impossible to ho/po on the bridge (can never get past the blue yellow red blue yellow red etc)
the answer to all your problems in guitar hero is going to be practice.
unless it's a shocking guitar or a broken whammy bar.

although the next time someone says "my guitar shocked me!! what do i do??" i'm going to be really tempted to say "practice"

So what's the general consensus on the broken guitar issue? I bought a launch day bundle (95055) and I'm too afraid to open it for fear of getting one of the busted ones. From what I've read Red Octane said 95055 and 95065's have issues and to exchange those 2 models for a different one, BUT I've also read that those are in fact the ONLY models of guitars that exist right now. I've also been told that only guitars shipped to certain chains are defective and I've heard that the problem is much more prevalent in the 95055's then in the 95065's.

So what should do to guarantee myself one of the non-defective units? Take mine back to only a certain chain? Wait for a new model #? Find a 95065? Or buy whatever I can find from Costco. and keep exchanging it until I get one that works?

I need an answer to this question too. I have a 95055 model, but it seems to be working fine. Does this mean it may crap out on me sometime soon?

Well, my first one was a 95055, the second was a 95065, and both bit the dust. One had a cord and whammy issue, the other shorted out and only one button worked. Red Octane is about as responsive as Iran at this point, so I had to dispute the charge on my card, and since it's under $100, they automatically credit me, so I went and bought one at the sam's club near my house (only $77.88 too!), and it had a 95055 box but a 95065 guitar in it, which has been the best one I've had yet - responsive whammy, the star power works like it should, and it hasn't electrocuted me yet...

Well, I lucked out (at least in my own opinion I did).
I had a 95055 guitar, and while the whammy bar didn't work quite like I was used to playing on the PS2, it wasn't exactly bad. Actually, the biggest problem I had was trying to do 'star power', I could tilt the thing way past straight up and still not trigger it.
Anyway, I went to BB tonight and 'luckily' they had no more in stock. Because of this, I was able to get a refund. The only reason I got GH II for the 360 was the DLC - now that I know the pricing, I didn't want it any more anyway. Glad to be rid of it - glad it didn't cost me anything.
Really *REALLY* glad I kept my PS2 Guitar Hero's at this point.

I'll be even happier if the rumored 80's Edition is announced / comes out.
Word. I was tempted to get the 360 edition too.. but with all this shit going on now i'm really glad I held my money.

I 5 starred all of Easy and Medium and was hitting 5 stars on each song on hard and feeling very cocky yesterday. Then I got to Woman... It took me like 6 tries to even beat it. I haven't gotten another 5 star since. This game just got a hell of a lot harder.

I couldn't have said it better myself. I didn't 5 star everything on Med and Easy yet, but Woman was where it hit the wall, too. 8 tries for me to get past it. Then, when I got to the encore. I failed the Spinal Tap song the first time. I still can't believe I failed a Spinal Tap song.

How embarrasing.

The exact same thing happened to me! From that point on I've been getting an average of 3 stars per song. Stuck on Freya ATM. Well, I WAS stuck on FREYA. Yesterday when the MP was having some issues, I checked out the gamer pics via the in-game store. Once I recieved the error message the game froze! I restarted the game and it kept getting stuck on the loading screen. 30-40 minutes later I sucked it up and erased my game save and of course it works fine.

I've got everything five-starred on Medium except for Psychobilly Freakout which I just can't seem to click with. Woman is my undoing on Hard as well though, I've tried it 4 times so far and it's going to take an awful lot of practice for me to just get comfortable with that standard riff that repeats throughout the song. That three button hammer on in the middle confuses my fingers everytime.

So appearently the Whammy bar issue can be fixed by a patch:
“On learning of potential issues with the whammy bar on the Xbox360 guitar, we immediately began extensive testing of both the guitar and the software to isolate any issues with whammy bar functionality and the corresponding causes. Our testing identified a specific software element that may, in certain situations, cause the whammy bar to lose responsiveness. Given that this is a software-driven, an patch is being developed to fix the issue and will arrive as soon as possible via download on Xbox Live. We will confirm soon a target date for this download.”

YES! I'm almost definitely getting a 360 TODAY! I CAN'T fuckING WAIT TO GET MY HANDS ON THIS GAME!
Have fun trying to find it

I think some stores have stopped carrying it because of the recall thing. Futureshop has taken both the game and guitar and the extra guitar off there website.

Just know the score you need is over 80,000 for 5 stars. I just kept playing it and knowing I would screw up I saved my star power for the parts I was good at to rack up the most points. And just winged it and hoped to get the harder parts.
