Guitar Hero II - General Disscusion - Indie Pack #2 - 3 Songs Up Now

I would add to the OP that RedOctane is providing free shipping for Guitar Hero 2:

Enter Coupon Code ghiixfreeship for FREE UPS Ground Shipping.

Do they also not charge tax? Because free shipping + no tax AND the free gig bag makes this the best deal by far.

If someone can confirm these are tax free (which they should be, I would think, as long as you don't live where RO is) then that's a hell of a deal, I'd order one right now too. Tax for me is going to be about $6.50 on this, and I bet this isn't going to see a sale or a price drop any time soon... because the PS2 bundles still never have at a B&M retailer.

Then, if I can sell my GH 1 and 2 and guitar for $90, it's like a free upgrade.
there is no tax, comes out to $89.99 shipped for me.
Thanks!

I put it in the deals section, I'm gonna go ahead and order one soon myself.
there is no tax, comes out to $89.99 shipped for me.
Yup, for me as well. I bit.

$90 is a lot, but there's a lot of content on that disc, and really, it's only like $30 for the guitar compared to normal new 360 releases, so that's not too bad.

it is fairly expensive, but if you've played guitar hero before you know it is worth every penny.

Went for the $90 bundle. I'll get a second guitar when the wireless one is released. No tax, free ship, not a deal but better than buying it at the store.

I just played it! Circuit City had the 360 version on their kiosk tonight. This will be my first Guitar Hero, so I have no reference to compare, but it rocks. The guitar was responsive and the HD looks good. Can not wait.

Wow. I wonder if this is true for all CC's. I might have to drop by my local CC sometime soon.

I played it at Best Buy today. Personally, I like the PS2 version better. It seems more responsive than on the 360, and the xplorer guitar just felt weird. The HD graphic update was nice though.

The "response" was different? Are you sure it wasn't just lag on the screen? Maybe someone had it set at the wrong resolution and the scaling caused it to be a bit "off."

Can't wait for the guitar myself. It'll look nice next to my real Explorer. And by "nice" I mean "hilariously stupid."

Sorry for the delay, thanks for the info. Added to OP.

I've been watching some GH2 videos and while most of them look and sound great, I'm still hesitant to get a game at such a high price. It doesn't matter if it's only 10 bucks more than the PS2. I've never played a GH game before and never ever spent more than $60 on a game so the price tag is a huge turn-off although I am very much interested.

How does the guitar sound when you play it because I saw this one video:

http://www.gametrailers.com/umwatcher.php?id=37482

where I could hear the buttons being pressed. Is that common? Can you actually hear the buttons being depressed more than the sounds that the buttons are linked to? I hope not. That would really ruin the experience. I don't want to turn up the sound just to drown out the button noises. (Like the ones that my keyboard makes). From that video, for all I know some guy could be pressing the same button over and over again while the song plays in the background on a cd player.

Other than that, everything I've seen look very authentic. Every button press and sound were on cue and it definitely looks like a real challenging game that has a lot of replay value.

it only sounds like that if you are the hulk and can't control yourself.

It is hard to not make that sound though when you get going fast like that.

So to answer your question, yes it does make that sound, but it usually isn't that loud. He must of had the mic next to his guitar or something.

Sounds like he's strumming up/down like an actual guitar. It's not the actual frets that are making the noise, it's from the strum bar. It's happens on the faster songs unfortunately, but it doesn't seem that loud at all to yourself while you play. I haven't touched the 360 guitar yet tho, so I can't really vouch exactly, but even with owning both my guitars from the first GH's release, and both seeing pretty heavy play, they aren't obnoxiously loud while playing.

supposedly the 360 guitar is supposed to have smoother buttons. Not sure if that means just the fret buttons or if they smoothed out the fret bar as well.

How awesome would it be if the gamerpics of this game were actual guitarists or bands!

Think about it, Slash, Clapton, Hendrix. Those gamerpics would be awesome. Iron Maiden gamerpics, GnR, Skynyrd.

Man that would be awesome. Wishful thinking though :(

If anyone is curious about the 360 guitar, I was at my best buy yesterday and they had upgraded their 360 display endcap to a Guitar Hero 2 deal. So they had the game there, for you to play already. My GF wouldn't leave.

My local BB upgraded their entire 360 kiosk/display and endcap to the GH2 theme but....they didn't hook up the guitar or the game for demo.

Bummer.

This is gonna sound pretty stupid, probably, but whatever.

My only time with the GH games was owning it briefly when I briefly owned a PS2. I got through the "normal" or "easy" or whatever the 3 fret song mode is and enjoyed it a lot, but ended up selling everything before I got any more advanced. As you get farther in the difficulty levels, is the only way to pass by using the strum bar both up and down or can you do the whole thing by just hitting down on the strum bar?

You can pass everything on expert in GHI strumming one way, except for maybe The Breaking Wheel. In Guitar Hero II, good luck on Miserlou.

I only played up to hard and I could pass every song by just strumming down. Theres a few songs on expert though where I could see strumming up and down would really come in handy. It's just another "trick" to learn.

Strumming down makes the game infinitely easier...just to bring up something I saw in the other GH2 thread in the deals section, has anyone confirmed that CC is giving away 1600 points with the game on 4/3? If that's true, I'm going there, if not, I'm ordering from RO.

I don't have a 360 or anything, but I'm a pretty experienced GH player. I was pretty upset at the price, but after trying the new Gibson X-Plorer controller at BB, I can honestly say it's probably worth the extra cash. The controller had weight, and the strum bar was fucking solid. I'm currently trying to figure out how to get my hands on a 360 and a copy of GHII by April 3rd. :D
I wonder if I will just be able to walk in and buy this on launch day...
If Red Octane ships as many 360 copies as PS2 copies to stores, then yes.

I remember when I used to work for TRU, a week before the release, they shipped us 100-115 PS2 GH2 bundles.
Come on Red Octane, ship these motherfuckers already. If they're good enough for Best Buy, they're good enough for me.
I agree and approve.
Im pretty psyched, my friend and I both grabbing this on launch, can two people play over XBL?
The PS2 version?
Im pretty psyched, my friend and I both grabbing this on launch, can two people play over XBL?
Nope

I don't mind it though. If you've ever played a game over XBL with lag, you'd see how frustrating it is. Playing a game like DOA4 with any sort of lag is frustrating, I would lose my mind if I had serious lag on the GH series.

NHL 2007

Jesus fucking christ is that game ever horrendous over XBL. Oh well Im sure it will still be a lot of fun solo.

There was talk of a possible patch later on in GHII's life about online faceoffs, so I wouldn't count the possibility completely out.

wow I actually played this for the first time in Best Buy tonight. It was actually really fun and I'm considering on getting this! So what's up with multi-player? You can use guitar + controller? And when you say, buy 2 guitars..is it VS. and/or co-op? that'd be sweet if it was co-op.

I really know nothing of this game, and as of today the research begins lol

I really hope it's true and we can d/l the 80's edition when it comes out (is it confirmed?)

Here's a really dumb question lol..

So at Best Buy I did the training..since I didn't know how to play.
What's that.. (please don't laugh at me, I know nothing of guitars lol) that stick/wheel thing..???

The tremolo arm (or whammy bar, if you will)?

If you use that on sustained notes (notes that have the long trail after them) you get a higher score.

RedOctane is shipping GH2 to stores next week but it's streetdated, I wouldn't count on anyone getting it early.

I can't wait.. I need to find a way to get this launch day!!!
so on the longer notes, as your holding the buttons, spin that..? That's really cool
Moreso than that, you sort of push the arm up and down. It's easier to show than explain, but wikipedia "whammy bar" if you want to know more.

We'll see. I don't mind if I don't get it early, I just hate waiting for a shipment like 2 days after it's been sitting on shelves.

I was thinking about buying this.. but I'm going to wait so I can see what the downloadable songs are. And if the downloadable songs are any good, then I'll be waiting for a for a price drop.

The ps2 version is still fresh.. adding custom songs should last me for at least another year.

And if anything, I'm sure someone will port over the 360 downloadable songs to the ps2.
