Hahah! Poor EBayer. Got a PS3 bid lower than what was paid.

Sucks for the buyer.

He's probably going to just throw the console in the box and do a 4 month shipping time.

But that is what ive wanted to see! I think its pretty funny.
Why not put a reserve?

Well, the seller is Canadian, so he paid that amount in Canadian dollars, it should be noted. I wonder how he got his account killed?

Might as well go all out.

What's this thread about again?

i dont see why anyone would sell a system on ebay,

1. your not allow to put more insurance then what you paid
2. many people will just take your system and run

What i mean by this

Say you buy a system for 600 bucks and sell it on ebay for 1500. The buyer never says he got the item and disputes the charge

if your lucky and the post office gives your cash back you will only get 600 bucks back since that is all the system cost you. So your out the Listing fees. the final vaule fees. and the SHIPPING
Well, the seller is Canadian, so he paid that amount in Canadian dollars, it should be noted. I wonder how he got his account killed?
thats still $800.19 US that he spent on it. Which is a 89 dollar loss before factoring in paypal/ebay fees/shipping costs.

The fact that ebay is requiring Paypal as the only payment is crazy. Buyers could easily set up a some excuse for a dispute and potentially win. The insanity!
That's good to know. If you used a "confirmed address" with Paypal though, aren't you covered there?
doubtful . i dont see ebay giving people 1500 bucks for a 600 buck system. they will make up a reason why they dont refund the cash

I'm not real familiar with selling things on Ebay, so excuse me if this sounds retarded.

Couldn't you just ship the PS3 through FedEx or UPS? Don't they automatically insure the package and require a signature for delivery? Seems to me that'd be the best way to prevent a buyer dispute - you'd have their signature (or the signature of someone who live with them) on file.

And can't you immediately get the money from your Paypal account into your bank account? If so, I don't see how Paypal can go back into your bank and just take funds out without your approval.

The auction was ended early by eBay.

I've been monitoring all the PlayStation 3 auctions, and the cheapest auction that has been legitimately sold was a 20 GB version that went for $716.00 on 10/29/06.

That still won't stop a buyer dispute. A buyer could simply state that they received a PS3 box weighted down with some rocks.

The problem here is Paypal. Ebay is requiring everyone selling a PS3 to accept Paypal as a payment method. When a seller uses Paypal, they must abide by Paypal's terms. Paypal's terms and policies are kind of sketchy; I've seen numerous buyers and sellers abuse loopholes in the system. It really all comes down to a honest seller and honest buyer for everything to work out smoothly.

Yeah, no kidding - just look at the start time and end time and you can tell that. Also, one of the (two) bidders is also no longer registered. Wonder if this was a case of shill bidding? Seems kind of pointless, as the auction would have gone up in the last day anyway (I'm assuming this was a 7-day, though it was very close to being 5 days when it ended). The no longer registered bidder bid first, actually, so it doesn't seem like a shill bid. But who knows...
If you add signature confirmation it should combat the dispute problem.
not really. they can just say that noone at that house lives at that address. or they can say there was never a system in the box . so they can say they signed for a box full of stones

I have said this before and I'll say it again for the ebay scalpers here - I know of quite a few people who are going to do exactly what some are predicting. they are just going to file a claim with their CC company and say they were shipped a weighted box of something instead of the PS3. who do you think the CC company will side with? I see the potential for lots of ebayers getting scalped themselves.

unless everyone who sells a PS3 on ebay believes that every potential buyer is completely honest how are you going to protect yourselves? this whole thing is just one major mess.

The way I understand the PayPal Seller Protection, is that if you ship to a confirmed address you are covered no matter what the buyer says. Now, if they start going off about rocks in the box, etc, who knows. But it is *supposed* to cover you. I had one case where on some stupid cheap game a guy filed a dispute. I never got the details but it sounds like his account and/or credit card was stolen or something. Anyway, the address was confirmed, though, so I got my money back (after it was temporarily removed). And this was a case where it looked like the account was used fraudulently.

I had a lovely experience with Paypal when I bought a Neo-Geo system on another forum. I didn't get what I paid for and Paypal told me that I got a package so "tough s**t".

from that moment on I always use a CC to fund my Paypal purchases. since then, I had one bad purchase and again Paypal give me the "oh well, you got a box" line so I called up my CC company and let them take care of it. if Paypal still does this I think the buyers who don't use a CC are screwed.

Wasn't the Ebay rules just for preorders? Can't you switch method of payment once the system is actually release. I wouldn't deal with ebay/paypal selling the ps3, I would try CL or something else. Just too much potential for abuse.

oh it isnt that big of a deal, you get your money out of paypal as soon as physically possible, and then you are covered, there is no way you are going to get screwed out of your money. You may have to abandon that ebay account if someone does try to screw you, you just dont use that paypal account any more and make another ebay account. Problem solved.

yeah, that's what I'm going to do. Once I remove the $$$ from the account there's nothing they can do... plus, I'm going to document the crap out of it.

The Seller Protection only cover chargebacks; it does not cover the "Item not as described" disputes initiated by the buyer. These are two totally different things.

The "Item not as described" dispute is often used by buyers to legitimatley claim a refund in the case that they received the wrong item or was siginificantly different from what they bidded on; of course, this system has been abused by thieves to make false claims and get away with the money and item. This is why buyers can potentially claim that they received a PS3 box with some rocks inside it and win the dispute.

Check the Paypal board on ebay and you'll find plenty of complaints by sellers concerning this loophole.

Too bad Paypal will forceably take the money out of your account. Your account balance will then be negative. If you don't put in sufficient funds to cover the negative balance, they can and will send it to a collection agency in which you will be liable for.

Funny, I'm browsing three of my favorite forums and they have at least one thread in which I have to inform people about Paypal's policies and how they really work. LOL!
