HD Loader isn't... loading... HELP!

WildWop

CAGiversary!
Received my HDLoader disc today, popped it in, but it isn't being recognized as a disc in the PS2! Nothing shows up in the Browser! Anyone else have a problem like this?

I've got the official Sony setup.

I just got mine in today and it seems to work fine...have you had any problems with your PS2 not reading any discs before?

Mine has been perfect in the brief time I've had it. I'd make note of your model number and check some of the PS2 hack site mentioned in other HDLoader threads to see if there is any correlation with other reports.

What is the manufacturing date on your Sony HDD? I can't help wondering if Sony is making changes to deny unauthorized access to at least their own drive.

I dunno Sony would work that fast, but it's possible. I've heard of this problem happening with other hard drives but not the Sony one.

Nah, its not the HDD. I got that the day the HDD bundle was released.

I went and removed the FFXI stuff off of the HDD then tried again, no dice. Going to the browser showed no disc at all if I had the HDLoader disc in there for boot-up.

It was recognized, however, by inserting the disc while the browser was open. Since that first time, the HDLoader disc works fine straight from boot-up.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone.

It is interesting to note that software meant to make your gaming faster takes well over a minute to boot up itself... I don't suppose there's a key combination that shoots you back to the HDLoader interface without rebooting after you have already started a game, is there?

Wild, it doesn't take mine even near a minute to load. I think your PS2 is starting to crap out on you. Someone else had the same issue as you on the Gamefaqs forums (HDLoader wouldn't load some of the time, it booted very slow) and found that their PS2 was dying.

When they popped their HDLoader CD in another system, it worked fine.

Well I guess I was pressing my luck with this launch model PS2... hopefully that isn't the case, though.

Nope :( to bad though that would be awsome. So far i have put 18 games (Thanks to CC$4.99) on my 120 GIG HD and i still have 79 gigs free Loading is 2 to 4 times faster
Something I've been wondering about this thing:

Does it allow you to save (and then play) import games onto your HDD?
I timed it on my NA launch day PS2. It took 40 seconds from pressing the power button to display the HDLoader menu. 20 seconds, half of the total time, was just the PS2 itself booting before it accessed the disc.

Keeping HDLoader RAM-resident would add to the incompatibility issues the same way the loader for compressed memory cards often do. Game developers expect to have absolute dominion over the hardware and anything that stakes out a chunk of RAM and eats clock cycles listening for the button combo that invokes it is going to cause problems eventually. It would provide Sony an avenue of attack in future games.

Im goin plan to buy this HD Loader. Im just wonderin lets say if i put Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow On the HD Loader can i play the online version. Or it wont let me play online games?

No, you need the actual retail disc to play online.
