I know it's a long shot to ask here but I am considering, if at all possible, to pick up (yes, I'll probably need a business license or sometheing like a wad of cash) a DS dev kit. I work as an artist with my sisters for developing interactive art, ie video games. Seeing as something like Electroplankton was admired by nintendo, working on a DS art peice/game would be very nice and fun if it were to get published. So anyone with info (or flaming) would help.

Hmm. You could email Nintendo and ask them about it.

I didn't even know you could buy them. I thought you had to be a company. . .

here is where you go:
http://www.warioworld.com/

All you need to get a Dev kit is:
- Your company's full legal and incorporated company name (including Ltd., Inc., Co.), address, telephone and fax numbers and a main contact and that person's email address.

- A list of the principal members of your company, and their relevant game industry experience.

- A list of published game titles (any platform).

- A list of any subcontractors, subsidiaries, branch offices or other related companies that you anticipate will aid in development. Please describe how they will serve to assist in software development.

-List any employees under the age of 18 working at your company.

and I think the Dev kits run around $10,000 to $20,000
Me and my friends have been working on a game for the last couple years.

Before spending the money on a Dev kit I would put something together that runs on a emulator on the PC, if you think after that point you have something worth selling then I would get the Dev kit.

even if there's alot of hoops to run through, I would be willing to do so. I don't blame any large company for setting alot of requirements for gettign something like this. Whoever is getting the dev kit is always asking for alot (ie. me)

the closet to getting a console dev kit would actually be the dreamcast. You can get one off ebay from time to time for a reasonable price. A console dev kit will cost you a lot of money. When they first came out, PS2 dev kit cost $20,000, while PSOne $4-5,000. The DS will probably be a lot less, but probably wont be cheap.

thanks for the info CapAmerica.

I'm currently working on some game designs and learning a 3d based game engine that I recently purchased. I do understand that I need to start putting together a larger portfolio than what I have ATM, but nobody said I would be getting a DS dev kit anytime soon.
