I recently bought Halo used at a local game store...the box led me to wonder how many editions of Halo are there and what version is mine

My case is GREEN

on the front next to who I assume is Master Chief, it says GAME OF THE YEAR in gold foil, the art is kind of prismatic/hologram like

The spine says Halo and has GAME OF THE YEAR in gold foil at the bottom of the spine

Inside the disc is like a regular Xbox disc [not Platinum Hits] but it has a green square with white letters that says NOT FOR RESALE

Okay, so what version is this, and how many are there?

I am feeling as if my disc belongs to another case.....
It's not worth anything more. It was boxed in with a console at one point.
No, it's not about value, I recently got a 360 [and I skipped the first X-Box as a whole] so I am definitely playing the game

But I was just wondering how many there were..I know there is the platinum hits, the Halo edition Xbox one which is just like the first print, but I am wondering if there is anything different about this one with "GAME OF THE YEAR" all over it.

Does it have vids and trailers for Halo 2 on it? It's probably the version that came with the special edition Halo Xbox.

Halo: Combat Evolved (stand alone)
Halo: Combat Evolved Game of the year edition (stand alone with metallic gold!)
Halo: Combat Evolved (pack in with Halo edition Xbox)
Halo: Combat Evolved for the PC
Halo: Combat Evolved for the Mac

i think there is also a non metallic game of the year edition. I remember my friend's friend wishing he had a metallic one like mine.
Weren't there early copies of Halo that had a "T" rating rather than "M"?
Yes. And I'm on a quest to find one.

I think the image is reversed on the disc on the earlier copies versus the goty versions.

Jeesh. I'm kinda starting to regret selling my copy back in college just so my horrible ogre of a roommate wouldn't stink up the living room and hog the TV while my friends and I wanted to play Smash Brothers.

I had whatever version came out at launch too..

They look the same except the GOTY and the metallic.

You're missing the Platinum Hits one.

You guys sound like , if given the chance , you'd totally homo-out with the Master Chief . ;) LOL

I have the original launch cover .

There were some launch versions that had a "T" rating instead of an "M" as well if you consider that an "Edition". Same game, just a different rating.
platinum/Greatest hits/Players choice don't exist to me :shudder:
They should matter to you. It's a badge of honor that the game has sold enough to warrant a reprinting. Some even add new content and fixes to the original game.

What about the Triple Pack version? I've been looking for info on this and have had no luck. Does the Triple Pack version have it's own non-PH case, but with "not for resale" stamped on it?

badge of honor? I don't give a fuck if something is a million seller. I just like fun games.

Wow, that rating thing is kinda cool. Never knew that. I had the GOTY edition when I had it (played the heck out of that game, gosh it was awesome! :) ).

Was that rating a misprint or did they actually rerate the game after it came out?

You should care because if your "fun games" don't sell, publishers won't fund development on any more of those "fun games" citing poor sales of previous games, leaving you with sequels of those proven million sellers.

Halo 1 - Rare 'T' Launch Edition
Halo 1 - Launch Edition 'M'
Halo 1- GOTY Foil
Halo 1 - GOTY Non-Foil
Halo 1- Pack-In
Halo 1 - Platinum Hits

and then there was Halo 1 packed in with the Halo Triple Pack...
