I think I have talked myself into getting a PS2 instead of another Xbox with the money back from my product replacment plan (plan to get one in two months for my birthday, an Xbox that is).

I was wondering what was typical of an PS2 memory card and if I should go ahead and splurge on the double pack.

it all depends on the game some take up 100kb other take up 3mb. if you play a lot of games go for the double pack.

I assume the ones that take up a lot of space are going to RPG's.

I think just the one card will do me as most of my games are going to be fighters and action adventure. I appreciate the imput as I was really looking for what the max game save for a card was

Actually RPG's don't take up that much space. Sports games are the real criminals when it comes to save size. But definately go for the double pack. By the way congrats on outposting cheapyd :)

It really depends on the game, unfortunately. Some RPGs I have take up a lot, some take up nothing. Each GTA takes up about 500kb, so does Shinobi, but Xenosaga takes up 100kb.

thanks for the input. I really appreciate it as I am a little clueless on the PS2 at the moment. Basically all I know is I am tired of missing out on good games and all the good deals.

So far I think I am gonna get Virtua Fighter 4:Evolution, Devil May Cry, and probably Ico

on a side note is EB still having their sale on pre-owned games as I would love to pick some of these up cheaper

I'm debating myself whether I should pick up the HD or not. With the amount of games that most of us own, memory cards become useless. I would love not to have to manage my memory card as much as I do.

I'd say pick up two memory cards. I have two, one for backup (data storage) and one for the current games I'm playing. You never know what can happen ;).

I was just at EB today and they are still running their preowned promotion. On Virtua Fighter 4, maybe you should wait until Final Tuned comes out.

Just remember that a lot of early ps2 games eat memory card space like a muthafucka. I think Timesplitters 1 needed the whole card to save custom maps.

I would just buy another xbox...I had a ps2 for a while (too bad I could have sold you it for cheap...) I wasnt impressed by it and I wasnt impressed with the selection of games...I have a GC,Xbox,Psone, and DC and that fulfills all my gaming needs...I know you have a saturn casey and well...I think if you have what I have youll be good...If you got your xbox modded that would be nice to have...I know you can do it cheap and get all those media players and what not...plus LAN parties...Id say stick with the box but thats MO

my problem with Microsoft is that I have had two break on me and both ruined about every Xbox game I played.(will probably get another if both KOF and Street Fighter are online)

need a PS2 because I plan on getting Metal Gear Solid 3

strider thanks for the info. I think I will be good with one card for now as I do not plan on getting a ton of games for it as of right now( I have like 20 other games I already need to play)

Metal Gear Solid 3 seems like a big gimmick to me...I mean...having to find food?...I would understand if it was a SIM game or something of that nature...but a stealth game?...I also think MGS is overrated...they need something drastic to knock SC from the top

for me I found no replay value in splinter cell (the first) and have not picked up the second as I need a new Hard Drive and have unreal 2K4 staring me in the face screaming hook up your PC and play me!!!!

played MGS2 at least 5 times and TTS a couple

I agree MGS has more reply but doesnt give the full "stealth" effect...You can run *almost* through the whole game guns a blazing and still beat it...unlike SC where if you go out guns ablazing you die in a matter of seconds

thats why I liked the end of Splinter Cell and played less than 30 minutes of single player in Rainbow Six 3 (neither was fast enough for me)

I see your point (RS3 is also dammed hard single player) I just dont really get how MGS can be considered stealth when everything is so fast paced...anyways...back on topic...

get the double pack if you're getting MVP 2004.

A Roster save and a Dynasty save on one card take up about 1/4th of the whole card.

I have only 2 memory cards, and I have most of the games in my list saved on those. Your best bet is to get 2, because some games take up an incrdible amount (NHL 03 takes up 3 megs). And if you plan on getting the DVD playback kit, that's another 2 megs gone.

EDIT: nevermind, found out some sucky stuff.

If I'm not mistaken if you upgrade to the newest DVD software that takes up a whole memory card. That's only for the PS2s without the integrated remote though.

IDK, for me one cards large enough, and my collection of ps2 games is about 20. I use the sharkport to save some saves to my hardrive, to sometimes clean things up.

You've got to be kidding me! What you're saying is I would have to buy the $12 DVD pack, and THEN buy another 25 dollar memory card! That's bull. I have to make sure this isn't true. Sorry to say it, but I really hope you're mistaken.

I guess I was mistaken. The upgrade takes up about 1/4 of the card, which is a good amount considering what some games take up. That's only if you have less than the v2.10 revision. The newer PS2s don't need to do that.

The original DVD player software resides on a ROM chip built into the PlayStation 2 hardware. The upgrade is applied to a PlayStation 2 memory card i.e. it is necessary for you to use a memory card both to perform the upgrade, and to utilise the V2.10 DVD player software. This will be explained in the instruction manual supplied with the remote controller.

The space used on an 8Mb PlayStation 2 memory card is just over 2000 Kb – 1/4 of the card capacity – the rest of the card can be used as normal for game saving etc. You are unable to copy the DVD player from card to card

I checked EB, and apparently, since I have a launch model PS2, I would not get any of the extras, and I would need to keep my software disk and IR reciever. So I might just end up selling my PS2 and buying a newer version. I'll have to think about this.

If you stay away from the Sims games, Sports games, and SOCOM II you will be fine with 1.

yea I will probably get one pre-owned for cheap in a little while. I got the newest model so no problems with that taking up the memory card space. So far I only have 6 games(ATV offroad, Ratchet and Clank, Maximo, Devil May, Cry, Onimusha, and Virtua Fighter) and have yet to install the network adaptor software. Gotta find a decent game first before I install it.
