There's an upgrade pack available on Steam, though. And reasonably priced even when not on sale.

Not completely different, but MOW is not a poor man's game at all.

MOW is older than COH in terms of how long its been around (2004 was the first). The easiest way to describe them is MOW is more realistic. I've read some use the comparison that MOW is Arma to COH's COD, but that is a bit overly simplistic. COH is conducive to faster gameplay and a little more "arcadey", but MOW takes more thought as you can control literally every man.

Personally, I'm not the biggest RTS fan, so I generally "prefer" COH as its got a lower learning curve. I've not played MOW in years though and do not own it on Steam, but I'm probably going to buck in to get it.

Have you even played it? The games are cut from the same cloth but to write MOW off like this is a mistake. There are some very distinct differences that impact how the games are played.

COH has base building and things like that. MOW doesn't. MOW is about the soldiers. You can control each individual soldier, and also all can have separate inventories and such so you can get into the details of what each individual soldier is carrying and how they affect the outcome of a mission/skirmish. COH provides nothing like that. Its Men of War, Company is more unit based.

Its also worth noting that MOW allows to play with and against countries that COH has never even touched like Japan.

it was on steam free weekend before

 
I played MoW: Vietnam for one of my blog thingies and it was an insane morass of non-intuitive buttons and commands. I prefer to never touch another title from that franchise again.

I'm only really missing Contagion and I literally can't be bothered to type my password into PayPal for a sixty cent trade.

It's a better CoH. You can control individual units(as opposed to squads). There's ammo count. Vehicles are better all around. Path finding isn't all that great but that's what direct control is for.

Only thing is there is an Assault squad 2 which is what most of the communtiy has moved onto. But if you're on the fence, $1 for AS1 is still great. There isn't really a campaign, but single player has a bunch of skirmish type scenarios. There's also plenty of mod map packs.

Thanks for Dropsy, drabe. I might play it soon, just so I don't get a daily reminder about spodering a game from the bros without being much of a bro myself. I recall the BGCQ Secret Santa 2013, where someone bought me a great game off my wishlist that I still haven't played.

Think I played the Contagion beta or something during a free weekend.  From what I recall it was worse than Zombie Panic Source.

 
Damn, if there were even one more game I wanted besides Dragon Commander and Blackguards 2 I'd be all over the nine dollar tier. As is I'm not sure.

Bruce was on Xena and was by far the best character, barring Grabrielle whom we all know was all up in that Xena taco so often she had her name legally changed to Loosy. I want them to be in all of the things.
