I just bought a DS Lite from Target! Update!

I gave up last week after going to four stores and came up with nothing (I'm telling you, around by me, no one EVER breaks street on anything). I have two preorders in at EB Games, so I can simply walk in on Sunday and get it with little hassle (who knows if stock will be low a la the big Xbox 360 shortages).

In the meantime, I got my fix last night by playing New Super Mario on a demo machine at EB Games. It's a nice unit. Screen is really bright and the colors are really vibrant.

Four days left. Then it'll all be over and you'll be wondering what the fuss was ever about.

Might be harder to not kill the deal at TRU - at Target there are so many people that I was able to call and no one had raised the alarm 90 mins later when I actually got there. At TRU I don't think too many people can answer the question - it'd suck if they randomly asked a manager about the weird guy who called.

So there's a little incentive to try to get some time in with it early, if I can.
 
Agreed Ravenlock, which is why I tried to get one last week (I was on a trip this last weekend, so it would've been nice to have it). I also think it's absurd for Nintendo to release this stuff on Sunday, since a lot of us work Monday through Friday, so we won't get to use it much once we get it.

LOL. I don't have mine DS(YET!!!) but I'll do on this fucking damn Sunday. I have a friend who works in a bank in Brazil(my home country) and he has ended several GBA games using this method, kinda funny because people never suspected about his "habits".
 
Hate to break it, but school's out, and Nintendo's (outside this board and most online forums) "base" isn't us 18-30 (taking a stab at it) year olds, it's the 8-12 year olds who are now out of school and have more time than ever to play all day. I think that's who they're targeting with a Sunday release in the middle of summer.

Good point... easier to parents to take kids to the stores to buy their new DS Lite too... nothing is for nothing.

So I see what you're saying, but given that we all want one (thus implying that their base expansion is working), the timing is... unfortunate.
 
I just went to the Toys R Us in Minnetonka, MN. No luck there. They have a lite on display, but the guy working the game area said it will be released on Sunday and that an email went out yesterday to all the stores telling them not to sell any units until Sunday.

GT, I don't know about that report but the guy at my Toys R US knew about the street date claimed that all stores were sent an email telling them not to sell until the 11th and told me "try Target I hear they started selling them by mistake"
 
Alien - yeah, I don't find it particularly credible yet without corroboration, but it's interesting that these two TRU pieces of info seem completely contradictory.
 
This is such a clusterfuck. I (hopefully) still have one on order from Overstock, I still have my fatty DS that I want to list ASAP, but I lost the charger this past weekend on vacation. And I'll be in San Diego from Saturday through Wednesday. Patience is not being my friend.

Anyone know of a place to buy a lite on Sunday in San Diego near (walking distance) the Manchester Hyatt?
 
Well, fate answered the question for me - I got home from work and sliced my finger open trying to open one of those damn plastic electronics containers that absolutely won't open without a knife (I always knew these things were a hazard). I'm not bleeding anymore but I'm also sure not getting in a car and driving an hour. So good luck to anyone who goes out there - I'll look forward to playing mine on Sunday.

I HATE those containers. They are a menace.

I'm with ya man - the 11th. Only problem is that the EB Games I preordered from won't open until 11 am on Sunday. Oh well, what's a few more hours (over an earlier Target or Wal-Mart opening) after I've waited this long?

I am going to wait until Sunday too. I have failed so many times at getting it early. Plus, PDA Panache hasn't made the Battle Stylus for DS lite yet (although on their website it says they are working on it!!)

Anyways, here's hoping the $15 off 100 Circuit city coupon works for the DS lite!
 
What a coincidence - I JUST lost my PDA Panache stylus for my Palm Tungsten E2. Maybe when they come out with one for the DS Lite, I'll buy it and a replacement for my E2.

no go at the toys r us at willowbrook in houston. The lady was very nice but she said she couldn't sell it until sunday. She was suprised that it was gonna be the same price as the fat boy since in her words "it sure do look better"

The fat model has been dropped to $119. But yeah I would gladly pay $10 more for the DS Lite if you ask me.
 
I saw the old DS at Wal-Mart for $119 last week. Is this a new price drop for them? Everyone else seems to have it for $129.

If Nintendo only drops it by $10, I can't see how anyone with any sanity wouldn't just cough up the measly $10 for the Lite.

You'd be amazed at how cheap some parents can be... Kid tells them I want a DS Lite, they goto the store and see a couple versions of the DS and just get the cheapest one since they both play the same games. Honestly I don't even ask for xmas presents anymore... and my birthday is on xmas eve. I'd rather get nothing and give nothing than feel cheated by my a-hole parents.

If you look back through the thread, you'll also see that "PimpitySnicket" was the brilliant young lad posting and PM'ing $hady about ways to bait & switch the store to get a DS - that is to say, steal one by buying a DS Fat and then switch the boxes and walk out. Except that $hady was baiting him and posted pics of the PM's in the thread. See page 32, #634 and #645 on the next page.

i was just over at fry's at the city of industry, the ds lites were all over the case probally like 30+ but w/ a post it stating "DO NOT SELL UNTIL JUNE 11"

About the PM's shady posted... If you get your nut off hee-hawing over someone posting PM screenshots as if I was trying to keep some sort of secret making a suggestion about how to bypass the ds lite's not ringing up, jokingly I should add unless some dumb kid actually wants to try it then wow.... There sure are some nerds here...
 
grrrr i went to my local walmart and they had a nice brand new ds lite on dislay to play with i asked the guy if he had any of them and he denied it even though the one on display proves that they got their shipment of lites.... the guy was on to me though he instantly denied it wen i asked him i think he knew wat was going on he said that someone else asked him the exact same thing hmmmm i wonder if he reads this site... oh well looks like im waiting for sunday also i already got me a pre-order on it too :D

On most forums I frequent, suggesting any kind of illegal activity - even in jest - is enough to get the moderators on your tail because it can get the board in hot water to have stuff like that on there.

I would think that suggesting a method of theft on a board where the primary purpose is to get games cheap would meet with an even harsher response.
 
For those of you looking in Hawaiii, Toy n Joys in Kaimuki has DS Lites in stock and are willing to sell them. They also sell the import DS Lites so I called them up and confirmed they were selling US DS Lites. Picked one up today without a problem.

i have finally accuired a DS lite thanks to Snoods trick i believe (i forgot who first posted it)

heres my story:

i went into the target in Schaumburg IL (on higgins rd at 6:30pm) and went straight to the electronics department. i noticed that there were no DSs on display and i thought this would work to my advantage. Unfortunatly the clerk was savy (he had a mo hawk) and knew exactly what i was looking for. he told me it doesnt come out till the 11th.
So naturally i was pissed. i walked to another department (drapes or comforters) and asked some old guy to look up the DS with that DPCI # and he said we may have one. he walked me back to electronics and i thought i was doomed. he grabbed a key from the same guy that denied me and went in back and grabbed me a DS lite. i asked the old guy if i could pay at the front register (to avoid the electronics guy) but he told me i had to pay in that department.
i got rung up and the electronics guy told me that he "thought it came out the 11th" AND THE OLD GUY TOLD HIM TO PUT THE REST OF THE DS LITES ON THE FLOOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THERE ARE 3 LEFT SO HURRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i was sweating bullets through out this whole ordeal but here i am now waiting for my DS lite to finish charging so i can kick some ass in tetris.

ps anyone know how long it takes for the ds to charge for the first time???

ps anyone know how long it takes for the ds to charge for the first time???[/quote]It takes like 4 hours to charge and maybey ill use the same manuever to get my ds.I swear i looked within a five mile radius of all the game and electronics store and nobody would sell them now!(about 25 stores) it sucks. big time.well ive got one reserved in blockbuster so maybey my luck will change on the 11th. I just hope i dont have the same ordeal like on dec 18(xbox 360).

That's too much for the DS Lite, I'm at LibertyVille and not going to Schaumburg to get a no... hehe, waiting till Sunday to grab 2 DS lite but thanks for the tip :)
 
djago, same thing happened to me at a "target greatlands." It seems that the big targets have separate store rooms,
so when someone from a different sections sees the item is in stock, they bring you to the electronics store room.

in contrast, when theres only one store room, the person will go get it for you. that's the theory anyway. haha.

so my suggestion would be find a smaller target or just wait til sunday (thats what i'm doing.)
 
you know what you are right the targets I went to were "greatlands" and in both cases I got fucked. I'l try out your idea but the hand off shit was rediculous. the bitch I went to first passed me of to some other guy and he passed me on to electronic guy. If I dont get one before the weekend Ima piss in somone's mouth.peace.
