How does that work. Can the seller choose to still sell me the item or not from their My eBay page, or does it automatically not sell?

I was planning to e-mail the seller telling them I'd be able to pay by Paypal today if they would go ahead and sell it to me (through eBay) even though the reserve wasn't met. But eBay didn't send me an end of auction notice with the seller's e-mail address. (I guess because I technically don't have the right to buy it yet?) So I just have to wait and see if the seller is going to offer it to me or not?
 
Seeing as the buyer had a reserve set (which means the lowest price he'll take).. don't get your hopes up that he'll like you so much he'll sell it to you for less.
 
The seller does not have to sell to you.
The seller has the option to make a 'Second Chance Offer' to you at your max bid [or to any bidder at their max bid.]
You then have the option to purchase or decline.
This is most likely if the high bid was "almost" at the reserve.
 
You did NOT win technically. They have a reserve up there for a reason. The seller could try to work a deal out with you, or he can just relist it again for free I think. It's all up to the seller....if he wants to sell to you, he can....you can do nothing really. You can ask, but he can say no.

That's why I kind of wanted to contact the guy and say "Hey, I'll pay you within minutes if you offer it to me right now!" Might not be able to turn down the quick money.

It was for Max Payne (Xbox) Used BTW, My bid was $4.75 which is maybe a bit low for a winner, but I wonder just how high that reserve was set...
 
Considering that's a fairly old game, throw in shipping and I hope the reserve is $5. Any more than that would be a ripoff.
 
I hate reserves in auctions. What fun is it to bid only to see that the reserve wasn't met? I always start bidding at the minimum price I am willing to sell at, and plus, the reserve fee is around $1.00.

Ya. I start things off at a penny. I hate reserves too. Why auction? Its like you dont have faith in the item you are selling.

My max bid was $5 so I guess it was something more than that. I looked at the other auctions before they closed and the guy was auctioning off 5 or 6 old games, so it may have been a case of haven't gamed for 2 years and just completely out of touch as far as realistic prices. You know, guy may have paid $50 for each years ago and expected to get $20-$30 out of each or something ridiculous like that :lol:
 
I've always wondered...if the bidding starts at say, $1, and the reserve is set to $10, what will happen if I bid $10 starting off and other bids only reach $8? This would set my final bid at $8.50 or $9, which is not the reserve. Would I still win since I my max bid was the reserve?

I always thought if your max bid was over the reserve price it would start your proxy bidding at the reserve price (i.e. $10 in that case). I could be wrong though.

Reserve must be matched for minimum winning bid. Anything less than the reserve is meaningless.
 
So we have two votes for 'your reserve bid wins' and one vote for 'minimum bid must meet reserve.' Any other options or votes?
 
Last time I checked it was current bid must meet reserve.

I had a friend that bought a 'stang on E-bay, his current bid was under the reserve, but the seller contacted him with a price. That price was well under his reserve, so he ended up getting the car.

I think they meant the same thing, just different wording.

In the case that you said, your $10 bid would win.

Thanks wubb. Good to know, I think things changed (or I don't remember correctly), but it was several years ago now.
 
That's why I never bid on reserve auctions, don't want to go through the waiting and then still not get the item even if I am the highest bidder.
