Indiana Deals Thread
Anyone know where I can find a decent Home Theatre in a box around Indy?
I am not sure about any sales, but how much are you looking to spend?
I guess I'll ask you guys here first instead of creating a new thread: For selling game lots on eBay, how do you guys organize the games? A mix from every genre and release year or lots by genre? I'm gonna try and get rid of my old PS2/Xbox games on there.
Put a bunch of stinkers with one that you know has a decent value.
Genres are probably helpful. Then list as something like "PS2 Platform game lot, "Popular Title, etc"
Just curious, what model of psp did you get?
It's one of the original black ones. I think the motherboard says C1003 or something upside down in the UMD door.

I haven't tried downgrading or custom firmware or anything. I don't want to screw it up.
I am not sure about any sales, but how much are you looking to spend?
Less than $300. I had a good system that I gave to someone as a gift since we were moving in with family. Now we're getting our own place again and I'd love to have a little surround sound with my games again.

I was at Target and there was a bunch of games on Clearance at Glenbrook location.

Naurto: Ultimate Ninja (PS2) = $5
Formula One: CE (PS3) = $15 (The game is really good IMO, and was worth the $50 I paid).
Genji: Days of Blade (PS3) = $20.98 (I kind of like it, but has some flaws).
NBA Street: Homecourt (PS3) = $20.98
F.E.A.R. (PS3) = $20.98

and there was more on all platforms.

F1: CE, there was only one copy left. I know there was two copies of NBA Street left, but Meijer has it for the same price too. I was there around 6pm.

I went to GS yesterday in the Glenbrook Mall just before 6:30pm and I did not see that girl slidecage was talking about. Well, I did go there to trade-in Virtua Tennis 3 and Super Swing Golf. So, I trade in both games and was told I got $14 store credit, and I knew something wasn't right, and come to find out the employee forgot to give me the bonuses (He was a bit chubby and wore thick glasses, and looked kind of young). So I ran back to GS to tell them this, so he voided my previous transaction and re-did my store credit. While I was there, I decided to pick up DW6 PS3 since they had a used copy in and I had a 25% coupon off of used PS3 games. So okay, I buy the game and he gets the store credit, all Edge bonuses/discounts right, and 25% discount right. So I leave the store to check the condition of the disc, he forgot the disc in the case, so I had to run back to GS to get it in. It sucks because I was thinking this would go quick (I was getting late for a haircut too). Lol, just letting you know to watch out for this employee. He was working with that bald short guy at our GS who tends to be very pushy.

I have a quick question. What is the cheapest place in Fort Wayne for game rentals? I got a ps3 and I want to try some games, but I don't want to spend $8 that hollywood video or blockbuster want for game rentals.

library. free. Many branches have them. Hit and miss of course though.
library. free. Many branches have them. Hit and miss of course though.
i didnt know the library carried games. I went down there the first day the downtown one opened up and they said they dont carry games

Anyone going to the WALKING WITH DINOSAURS,...live event at the colisuem....

if your going opening night tell them

CLAW when you buy your tickets.... it knocks 10 bucks off the tickets

middle price tickets come down to 34.50 from 44.50.....

OPENING NIGHT ONLY

Downtown didn't used to have anything but pc software. But many branches have console titles. Waynedale and Aboite have good selections.
Also, if you have titles you can't trade in or sell, you can donate them to the library for a tax write off. (get a receipt)

I tried putting a hold, but it looks like you can't. It's too bad that you can't since there isn't that much at the Dupont or Georgetown locations.

I'm looking at cleaning out some of my garage sale finds and was wondering how I should sell some extra consoles. I got a boxed NES and a loose dreamcast to get rid of.

disc replay sells dreamcast for 20...so i be shocked if you get offered much for it... i think mcvans give 5

i would say peddlers post but that just went to hell

What do you mean about peddler's post? Has something happened to it? I'm asking since I don't look at it very often.

Don't know if this has been discussed, but apparently McVan's will not give a refund for defective items. My GF bought 2 NES games that I could not get to work, and they would not give her the money back. She had to take store credit, so we went yesterday and got enough to take care of that.

They'll never see another dime of hers - or mine. I didn't like them much anyway, and the assholes working at the Georgetown location have only cemented it for me. The employees there are the most rude I have seen in quite a while - especially the chunky guy with dark shaggy hair and beard. Special "Tool" award to him. Avoid.

Yeah I hate to deal with the employees at McVan's. I only go there as a last resort to find a game I am looking for.

the owners sold out about 5 years or so ago. Thing has gone down hill big time.. There used to be 40 to 60 Video game listings per week... last i check it was like 8 to 12.

funny story about mcvans...

the only time i deal with mcvans when i know i can make a profit

trade 2 100-150 Goozex pt games for a game that fetches 500+

they got a few games on the washington center road one that fetches 400 pts but not worth my time.

we really need another video game company that runs just like mcvans (flat trade fee) maybe then the SOBS will finally be ran out of business...
how much for the dreamcast. not dying to get one just wondering.
What's a good price for a loose dreamcast? I'm wondering if would be easier to just keep it as a backup.

You could probably move a boxed NES on ebay, or GameTZ to someone who is collecting.
I don't know if Disc Replay would give you more for it with the box. Probably not.

The problem is that the box isn't in that great of condition and it didn't have the power adapter. I probably would be better off trading it with a collector. I just don't look forward to having to ship it. I wonder if I should try craigslist or digital press.

I might have a spare NES power adapter if you need one. Depending upon how quickly you need it of course. In the process of moving and not entirely sure which box it is in.

I don't know if any of you other guys in Fort Wayne noticed, but that xarcade place closed down. I had to drop by the Georgetown library and noticed a new sign was up. I'm not sure what's going in its place. I never went to that place, but it's sad to see one of the more interesting places there to close.

what was it?? i know that shuffleboard place shut down (knew it had no chance)

i feel sorry for people today at mcvans... dude sold them the old Pokemon dungeon game for 30 buck saying all of the kids are playing it..

i though they had the new game in hand but when i saw them leaving i told them they got the asses ripped (well didnt use those words) told them that game came out years ago and everyone wants the new game that came out today..... Also told him you could find it very easy for under 20

dude was pissed and slammed the door

#$#$#$ Mcvans.

Nope. I missed the ones at Kmart. Could have gotten them at $10, but I heard some Kmarts had them for $4 and missed them waiting for that price. I don't remember if TRU had any. It seems like the TRU here really doesn't want to clearance stuff out any more.

Hey all, anyone in the Indy area looking to buy a DS may want to check the FYE at Castleton mall. They're marked down to $102 for some reason. Possibly a dyslexic employee?

But hey you guys are all saying it, #%#^ McVans... What would somone need to do to thow them out... What could a "new" store due to get the CAG along with the die hard plastic fans in the doors... Do you think Fort Wayne could even support another resell and trade place... Why don't one of you guys do it....??? I am just wondering and picking ideas...

answer your questions

1 ... What would somone need to do to thow them out..

answer.... About 10 to 30,000 bucks to start to get a major inventory. There is a nice building for rent right next to mcvans on east state for 290 a month...

2.....What could a "new" store due to get the CAG along with the die hard plastic fans in the doors.

break into their houses and drag them into your store in the middle of the night... LOL
Mostly really do touraments. Be nice to is customers.. Dont rip them off.

3....Do you think Fort Wayne could even support another resell and trade place..

answer...... Nope. We have 3 mcvans. at least 3 to 5 pawnshops ..... 2 gamecrazies. and at least 3 to 5 other places like this ..... It would be hard but if someone had major cash they could afford to lose short term then it could happen, but if your looking for a fast return less then 2 years forget it..

4.......Why don't one of you guys do it

I did do it From 1995 to 1998... This is why i was banned from mcvans for those years. I sold all the games out of my house and was told i was coming in there to spy to see what his prices weree... Though today they great me back with open arms ....

also your going to need to get major Word of mouth out and need around 25,000 to 50,000 bucks

the only reason mcvans is open today is it made Tons of money back from 1994 to 2003 and now can just ride with small deals since it has paid for its inventory 1000x over...

+ mostly idoits go to mcvans

last week saw someone SELL TO MCVANS

Pappon (or whatever its called ) the psp rpg type game 5 bucks and took it

Final fantasy Crisis core 15 bucks and took it

God of war 2 for psp 12 bucks and took it

10 older sort of junkie PS2 games for 6 bucks and took it .... Funny thing is i was told 30 mins later they sold 2 of those games for 22 bucks so they made 16 bucks + have 8 free games

also 90% of their incomes comes from TRADES very few buy and sell happen anymore

so anyone who wants to compete with them need a major inventory... This is why i had high hopes for the VIDEO STOP Game exchange but they hired PURE IDOITS who had no clue on how to run a store

they were buying games for 25 bucks that people could get off ebay for 2 to 3 that is why they went down so fast

personally i would love to open up another game shop but since we are now in the middle of the game life cycle it would be very risky

I think it would be hard to compete with Gamestop. They just have too much buying power, they're always going to have business on new systems and releases, and they pay next to nothing for their used inventory.

I think you'd have to dig into a niche, like McVans has gone into the discontinued systems. I get the feeling they're living off of PS2, NES/SNES right now. I think if you can carry the classics and the slightly out of date systems like PS2 and Xbox, you'd have a shot. You'd have to either be cheaper than Gamestop on used games, or have higher trade in values. McVans has the disadvantage that their "dot" system is confusing and stupid. If I knew I could trade a game in for 1/2 of resale value, I might do it, but I'm not going to trade them to GS if I'm only going to get 1/4 to 1/8th of what they turn around and sell it for.

Probably doesn't hurt to have DVD Movies too...gets people in the doors. I think Disc Replay is getting business on video games because the parents come in for the DVD's. At Christmas they were stacked 10 deep at the checkout.

Talking about a niche, would you say then the older systems would not do the job... Would you HAVE to get the new games in the most... Where do you see the money in the new or the old...??? Then would you say Mcvans w/ a bit of Disc Reply or Disc Reply w/ a touch of Mcvans...???

I would also suggest hiring employees that have good hygeine and either come with good customer service skills or can be taught said skills. I don't need the aggravation of wanting to smash some jackass in the face because of his piss-poor attitude when I'm shopping for something.

Well said...LOL...Then you'd have to wash your hands as well...

True. I used to talk to McGowan when he first started McVan's, back before they even had a store. They used to sell and trade out of one of the conference rooms at the Coliseum. He seemed to have his head on straight, and I patronized McVan's for a couple of years until they were overrun with smart-ass punk kid employees.

I wonder how involved McGowan is these days. The other guy, the big dude with the dreads that was married to Shannon Norris, I think he got out of his side of the business. I'm pretty sure I saw him working at a Blockbuster a few years ago.

Interesting. So no "Mc" or "Van" is involved any longer. I wonder if the new owner ever tours his stores. Perhaps he should take a look at what's going on.

I remember Rob working at Blockbuster on Jefferson once. I use to rent a bunch of games there and he remembered me well. While working at Blockbuster, he removed the dreadlocks.

I remember him driving a Lexus 4X4.

Don't see anything about this, so I'll get this out there for the Indy-area peoples...

There's a set of six Indy area Gamestops that have a 50% trade bonus coupon that is good until the end of August. Here are the locations:

1) Willow Lake West (2902 W 86th St, south side of the road)
2) College Park (3269 W 86th St, north side of the road)
3) Keystone Crossing Shops (3329 E 86th St.)
4) Castleton Square Mall (self-explanatory)
5) Southport Pavilion (SE side of intersection of Emerson and Southport - it's the "...and movies too" branch in front of Meijer)
6) Emerson Commons (NE side of intersection of Emerson and Southport - across the street from Target, right by Quizno's and Pizza Hut)

Just a bit abusable, considering that with this coupon + edge, Brawl currently trades in for $56... it should be a fun trading summer in Indy. Especially if you can find lenient employees who won't make you turn in the coupon and/or you live on the north side. Other rules: limited to five games, does not stack with any other promotions (except Edge, of course).

The same coupon flyer has one for 10% off a new game and +$30 on "any game system but GBA/SP/Micro and Gamecube" trade-in as well, but those aren't exactly the stars of the show.

Good luck!

Both stores on Emerson and Southport had a box full of them that they were handing out to customers. I'd wager all you have to do is ask for one, if they don't offer you one out of the gate.
