Since the old thread was getting too large, I made this new thread to continue.

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Apple iPad Information

Important Notes:

 1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
 2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
 3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
 4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
 5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
 6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
 7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
 8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
 9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.

You're crazy. But I applaud your gung-ho attitude in anticipating the future use of said apps. :applause:

Might as well get the iPad at this point.
Funny joke.
I've bought like... 15 of those apps. O_O
That's insane... I actually have a touch, and I've only bought 2: AppVault Pro (.99) and Rock Band (6.99)... though I have purchased 5 song packs for Rock Band.
Just bought Angry Birds.. Still don't own an iPod touch. Over 240 apps now.
hahaha you're always posting that youve picked up such and such app and this whole time you haven't had anything to play them on? get a damn iphone already haha
I have only bought 1 app PvZ . But yeah somehow people get apps 4 free but I am guessing thats illegal
That majority of the games I have I got for free. Either I be patient and wait for a game to be free for a promotion or I just download games that are free to begin with. If a game is more than .99, then I just won't buy it. Nothing illegal done on my end.

Wow, just wow... Have you even LOOKED at this thread?!

Picked up Plants vs Zombies last night. Curse you PopCap! I sat down to "check it out" for a quick 15-20 minutes. The next thing I knew it was almost 1:30 a.m. This thing is like gaming crack. Thanks for pushing me off this fence on this one.

This isn't a sale (it's always been 99 cents since its release in Dec), but I just saw yesterday's episode of CO-OP Live (http://revision3.com/coop) and they talked about 'Geospark' for a bit. Its apparently a collaboration between the folks who made geoDefense and the folks who made Harbor Master. I haven't played it, so I can't comment on it personally, but the guys on CO-OP made it sound pretty fun. From the video, it seemed like if you were to take Geometry Wars, but remove your ship, and have you defeat enemies by tapping on them.

Just figured I'd mention it here because this was the first time I'd heard of it and I know people seem to enjoy geoDefense and Harbor Master.

Here's a link to the specific segment of yesterday's CO-OP episode where they discuss it:

Hmmm...thats actually very interesting, i didnt know you could do that. I dont own an ipod touch yet, but i plan on getting one very soon. Wally world online has them all for discounted prices, the best deal seems to be for the behemouth 64 gig one, its like 257.99 plus i would use the bing cash back which i believe is 10% now for walmart, so I will be doing pretty good. I have an 80 gig ipod classic or whatever the newest gen one is called. I have had it for a couple years, and i dont use it that often at all, and did not think i would ever have any use for a touch. A couple months ago when i was hanging out with my family for christmas eve, my cousin was showing me his 8 gigger touch and holy shnikes i totally fell in love with it. Anyhoo, to make a long story even longer, i have been following this thread ever since christmas eve night when i seen my cousins touch and with all those AWESOME deals you guys have been reporting on daily for the apps, i had no clue that i could have been snagging them all along in anticipation for the touch that i am going to get soon. I thought you HAD TO HAVE THE TOUCH in order to buy the stuff.

So say for instance i were to buy a few things (games, apps, ect) Can i use/play them without the touch, like using them in itunes or something?

Btw, i am REALLY enjoying this thread and will be a happy ipod touch owner REAL SOON :)

I can actually see myself surpassing how much I paid for my iphone in apps. I wish the iphone had folders. It would be easier to organize everything. Pretty much the only feature I miss on my blackberry bold. That and a camera with flash.
Speaking up updates, has Gaia ever mentioned updates to Swords & Poker for more levels? It just seems so strange the "story" ends on level 27 (rather than a multiple of 5 like previous bosses), as well as there then being another 10 levels to go through. That makes no sense to me. I'm bummed out that the end is so near for me!
I think there's actually 36 or 37 levels in the game. After you "beat" the game the first time, extra levels will appear on the level select screen.

I think you meant $357.
Got my hopes up, I'd be upgrading to a 3rd gen right now if it was only $257 for a 64 gb touch.

Picked up Broken Sword the SECOND it dropped to $5. A LOT of fun. It seems like this might be a port of the DS effort, but I'm okay with it. This is a damn fine adventure so far. Puzzles a little simple and everything tries a bit too hard to be a character but the dialogue is a hoot and I'm smiling a lot the whole time. If it doesn't go off the rails, it'll definitely clean Beneath a Steel Sky's clock.

Hopefully Giana Sisters and/or Space Miner will drop by the time I wrap up BS.

Random semi-on topic question: is $215 shipped a reasonable price for a 32GB iPod Touch 1st Gen?

I'm going to try to sell mine to upgrade, and I'm trying to figure a price.

A 32GB 3rd gen is $299 vs $215 for the 1st gen. Plus, you can probably find it the 3rd gen for less on walmart and use bing cashback too. The 3rd gen will be a better deal, especially with the external speakers and faster processor. Just my 2 cents.

Just checked the price on walmart.com. It's $269.99 before tax and shipping and bing.

Still showing up $2 in the store at the moment (and it looks pretty stupid).

He was asking if he should sell his existing 1st gen for $215.
He was asking if he should sell his existing 1st gen for $215.
And I think the response was that $215 for a 1G 32GB is way too much. I'd suggest you shoot for $150-175 and hope you find a sucker.

Space Miner: Space Ore Bust is on sale for 1.99 down from 4.99. I've mentioned it a few times but its mostly been ignored by CAGs I think, probably because of the price. At 1.99, this game is a steal and one of the better apps around. Its asteroids with RPG elements and the first play through is about 5 hours(theres also a new game plus hardcore mode). The RPG elements are what I loved about it, but the asteroids game play is very polished. Its got a 5 star review average with 200+ submissions. I'd say P vs. Z is the one app everybody should own because of its mass appeal, but Space Miner is easily on my list of best apps.

I was waiting for a drop on Space Miner. I haven't played it yet, but I bit for $2.

I was paying attention to your posts about space miner, but I knew a sale would eventually come. Just picked it up for $1.99. I still don't have the ability to play games on my itouch.

What the fuck! I have never bothered looking at the app store before, but for whatever reason I decided to today. While doing so, I find that Mega Man 2 is on the app store for a mere $0.99, and PvZ is only $2.99!? What in the hell man, are all games that cheap!?

P.S. Yes, I know I sound like a complete newbie. :dunce:

Some of the bigger titles from bigger studios are in the $7 - $10 range, but prices fluctuate pretty often. Sales are an everyday occurrence in the app store. For example, GTA: Chinatown Wars released at $10, but was on sale for a few days for $7, and is now back at $10. Considering its almost the exact same as the DS/PSP game, that's still a darn good deal. PvZ is $3 and has only been out a few days, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a $1-$2 sale in the future. Its missing a few modes from the full PC game, so I would not have expected it to cost $10 anyway. Damn good iPhone rendition though.

But yeah, prices are low and volatile. The app store is littered with really crappy games, but there's quite a few gems in there too, some of which are pretty cheap.

That is really awesome. I have been thinking about getting an ipod touch in the Fall, and this news just makes it even better should I get it.

Make sure you grab the free games and good games that go on sale now.

Is there a site that lists the high rated freebies? The one I checked in the OP has a list of apps that just went to free, but no real list as to which are any good. Also, how does downloading them now work? Do I need to make an account and then they are tied to the account like PSN or something?
That is really awesome. I have been thinking about getting an ipod touch in the Fall, and this news just makes it even better should I get it.
There are some gems and to be honest you can probably get enough (if you keep a eye out) of quality free games to avoid buying them altogether. I've played a lot of paid games and free games and I now exclusively get free games. I'm able to find enough quality free games that way and I don't have to worry about wasting my money (even if just 99 cents).

Keep in mind though that even if you avoid the complete crap that's out there, you are still almost exclusively dealing with simple, casual games. If you want depth, the touch is not for you. If a DS, for example, is a step down from the Gamecube in terms of depth (I said GC because the Wii has so many simple games now that depth isn't always a given), then the Touch/iPhone is a step down from that. Be prepared to finish many of the games in a matter of minutes and to delete many more in less time than that. Apple's limitations are severe as well, there's no means or organization and you are limited on how many pages of apps you can have, so expect to find yourself juggling apps sooner or later.

Really, if you love casual games the touch is great. You can fill it up with tons of games, all for free if you take your time and you can even miserly load up on video podcasts and occasional free iTunes content. You can augment that with the occasional splurge on a game you really want to play and you'd probably be happy. Keep in mind though that if you pay .99 cents you might be getting the fractional equivalent in gameplay of picking up a Greatest Hits (or what ever) console title. I've played so many great games with good graphics and everything that simply just didn't have much to them.

If you're looking for more though, I'd be wary. Yes, there are some great games and some with great depth but the Touch/iPhone doesn't always provide a good way to control more traditional console style games. It just doesn't compare with the DS (for example) in terms of controls or the depth of the top titles.

Looking for a phone? I can't imagine a better gaming phone than a iPhone and I'd strongly recommend that option if you're in the market.

Having said all that, get a iTunes account (you can do it without a credit card and from my experience that keeps you from accidentally buying stuff) and load up on free games and content. That way you'll be prepared and won't be out a penny when/if you do get a Touch/iPhone/iPad. As far as reviews, there are so many free games that getting reviews is very hard. I use a app that shows discounted (to free) apps and just eyeball the games to see which look well done and which don't. The app pages shows additional customer ratings which can help make your mind up. There are review sites though but they don't correlate to current deals from what I've seen.

Thanks for the heads up on the Space Miner drop. I've been really hoping for a drop on that one with all the great buzz it's been getting. I'll pick it up today.

Alright, alright. . .I just can't resist. I'm downloading Space Miner as I type. First PvZ, now Space Miner (also bit on Parachute Ninja last week). . .glad I snagged some more iTunes cash. Thanks for the heads up!

Same here.

Bit on Space Miner & PvZ due to the EXCELLENT recommendations from other CAGers on other apps like AppVaultPro, Angry Birds, & Sword & Poker...

Keep'em coming!:applause:

I am so sorry, yeah i did mean 357.00.

We need one of these threads for Android. What sucks is I already bought a lot of the games I want on Android for my iPod Touch. Guess I'll have to pay another $5 for Labyrinth.

Glad to see people picking up space miner, it's a great game.

Blastwave is free right now, its a physics puzzle game, I tried it for a few minutes, its alright- nothing special.
^ lol who has an android?

My Hero runs Android. I would love to have a topic like this for it as well. It's a shame that the store is a clusterfuck though.

Been following the thread for a while now and have seen plenty of mention of freeappaday.com. Today I stumbled across Open Feint's free game a day page. One open feint enabled game a day for free. Looking back at the calender for February it looks like there is some crossover for freeappaday.com (whenever the game is open feint enabled). Today's free game is Air Assault. Anywhay here is a link to the site for anyone else who wasn't aware.

http://freegameoftheday.com/

Yeah, I want an HTC Incredible, and that's gonna be running Android.

Either way, I'm still buying myself an iPod touch in September to utilize these hundreds of apps I've been getting!
