CAGiversary!

Since the old thread was getting too large, I made this new thread to continue.

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

Important Notes:

 1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
 2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
 3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
 4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
 5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
 6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
 7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
 8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
 9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.

Boxterity for iPhone and iPod touch

This amazing 3D game challenges you to find a certain color on a 3D cube by spinning the cube any direction you want and tapping on the color when you find it. Boxterity has two different modes of play to choose from. Arcade mode where you race to finish before the clock runs out and casual mode where there is no time limit but you get more points for finishing quicker. Boxterity also has support for OpenFeint where you can track your scores and achievements and compare them to your friends.

Freaking Inkies

dropped from $2.99 --> $0.99

I haven't tried it but it was previously recommended by CALTAB. I will prob take the $0.99 risk.

Sweet! I was curious about this one. Felt like it should be on sale soon and now it is! Will definitely snag.

that game is an absolute steal for a buck. its very original, you have to shoot the inkies with the right color using tilt controls. it requires some thinking because you have to mix the correct colors when the inkies arent a primary color. there are a ton of different modes. you cannot go wrong for a buck with that game.

also trapmaster is free for today only. its an avoidance game where you have to collect gems while not getting hit by boulders. i've had that one for some time and enjoy it. it's like jewel thief.

iShark (the free one) is just about the stupidest game I've ever played. Do yourself a favor and don't download it. Thanks Fire_Thief.

Also it looks like the game is loaded with fake reviews on iTunes.

EDIT: in case you are wondering, this is the game: tap the teeth. The tooth either disappears, or you get bitten. Repeat until you get bitten. That's it.

That sword and poker game is alright, but not as good as some making it out to be. It takes about 2 seconds to see your best hand and the game basically plays itself. The only involvement you really have is with your gear, and even that is self-explanatory

Thanks for all the links to the free good stuff, guys. Downloaded I don't know how many apps I've DL'd since I clicked on this thread.

he reminds me of most 15-17 year olds I've met recently. your attention span is short, and everything is either a 10/10 or a 1/10. In his case, he likes 99% of the junk he touches

Blasphemy

haha. I'll still kill time with it mind you, but don't really understand the constant praise is all.

even someone who likes poker can't really get too much into it, as you see what hand your opponent has as well.

It gets more challenging the deeper you get into it, especially the bonus levels. There's also more strategy later when you have the better weapons. You have to anticipate more.

I wouldn't argue that the win condition doesn't change and get more challenging. My problem with it is there really isn't much involvement in the experience is all
Did anyone else pick up freaking inkies? Recommend?
Just played through the first few chapters. Good game. Very polished. Nice variation on the dual-stick shooter theme (and nary a zombie in sight. . .at least not yet). I can see the potential for me wasting a good amount of time on this one. Definitely worth a buck.
My little brother is giving me a $15 iTunes card this week. I already have about $7 spent on SFIV. What else would you recommend?
what type of games do you like...some well regarded ones around these parts are space miner(expensive at 5 bucks, lite version to try), tilt to live, and plants vs. zombies

i would assume plants vs. zombies is a tower defense game....correct?

Ill have to try space miners since there's a lite version. I like anything thats good, but wind up playing games like Marple and Unblock Me the most, so far. I have a bunch of games mind you. Some are better than others obviously, but the only game I know I want and am going to buy is street fighter.

I did buy that awesome RTS game called Conquest I believe. Very good, but I wind up not playing it much
Speaking of Space Miner, it is set to go on sale for 99c tonight (May 1st).
this is a definite purchase for a buck, I'd put it in my all time top 10 iphone games, but with a lite version, whoever doesn't have it can decide for themselves
i would assume plants vs. zombies is a tower defense game....correct?
More or less, but it's set up in lines rather than having a path that you construct towers around and the towers act as shielding so if the zombies break through all the towers down their line then you lose.

I haven't played it on the iphone/ipod, but I got it on Steam and it's a really fun game, more fun than a traditional tower defense game IMO.

For some reason I haven't been able to get that much into Space Miner, though I do appreciate it anyway. I'm thinking about Freaking Inkies at 99 cents, but I'm worried about that one, even at that price. The graphics look appealing, but it also looks like it's just the same thing over and over from the screens, and I've had other tilt to aim games and they didn't stay on my iPhone long.
Gonna go ahead and chime in that Espgaluda 2 is AWESOME. Worth every last penny.
Agreed. I was kind of saddened to have to pay $5 to wait a couple more weeks to play it on the iPod Touch, but in the end, it was well worth waiting for. My only complaint is this game really drains the battery . I started on a full charge, and after going through a playthrough, I was at half charge (yeah, I know the iPod Touch's battery isn't all that great, either).

I agree with crunchewy regarding space miner. Def try the lite first because that's what I did and wasn't very interested. Also agreeing with him about freaking inkies. Just wondering if it'll be a game I play initially and then stop after a while. Games like tilt to live and jet car stunts keep me coming back for more. I think tilt to lives value sky rocketed with it's recent update. Loving code red.
that tilt to live seems right up my alley. is there a lite version of that to try?
They ought to have one, but no. However, the game is great. Odds are you're going to like it like the rest of us.

seems like its similar to Geometry Wars, or better yet, Everyday Shooter, but with tilt function.

Im guessing your ship is the weapon and you dont shoot...but thats a guess

This is one game that I cannot recommend more. It's the perfect "I've got a few mins to play" game or can turn into an hour of fun addictive gameplay. Now that there are three modes, I don't think you'll regret the purchase. It's also a different game each time.

you avoid the red dots. you do not have a standard weapon, but there are power ups that you unlock that destroy them, like electricity and a beam. the game was just updated to have a new mode were you do kind of a gauntlet and just avoid the dots as long as possible. The replay value is in the achievements and push for a high score.

fans of tilt to live would probably also enjoy bit pilot and starball. they are not as featured, but I like them almost as much- neither get the attention they deserve.

Also @crunch, freaking inkies has a good deal of variety in the level types. There are parachute type ones, hide and seek types, protect the flag, doing math and a few others. There is also an endless mode. I would say its a very full featured game for a buck. I would definitely say its not the same thing over and over again.

the appeal for space miner for me is more the rpg aspects, the asteroids game play is fun, but what kept me glued was improving the ship. Its a very long game for a dollar. I think 1 play through is like 5 hours, then there's a plus mode. I havent tried the lite version, but this one probably wouldn't demo all that great because the rewarding aspect of it is in improving the ship and seeing the consequences.

none of these games are really much of a a risk for a buck or 2(in the case of tilt to live)

Catan dropped a buck from $4.99 to $3.99. Not sure I'm going to pull the trigger, but I've been really wanting to get it. I love the board game. Have any of you tried it? It's funny/sad how PvZ redefined my value-per-dollar for games on iPhone.

Captain Ludwig
"Similar to Dizzypad, the trick to Captain Ludwig is to time your one finger tap just right to direct Ludwig to the next planet. If you overshoot your mark or mis-time your flight, your hero will find himself lost in the ethers of space and minus a life. In many ways, Captain Ludwig is an improvement over Dizzypad, with a number of traps and pitfalls introduced to make your solitary task that little bit harder."

Get it for FREE this weekend (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/captain-ludwig/id363597681?mt=8).
