This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it reached 5,000+ posts making a new thread is easier to read through.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

App & Game Review Sites

Important Notes:

  1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
  2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
  3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
  4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
  5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
  6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
  7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
  8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
  9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
iFixit Touch Repair Guide ; iFixit iPhone Repair Guide ; TechRestore
  10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks.

the compression degrades the quality of the video....also does it when uploading to youtube

According to the splash screen,Words With Friends will be .99 tonight at midnight.

And I did buy Roll Through the Ages. Played it probably a dozen times since yesterday.

Man, I just bought it for $1.99 yesterday... oh well. I play the heck out of it. so Its worth it.
NewToy has announced via their Facebook page that the paid, ad-free version of 'Words with Friends' will be 99 cents, Thursday only.

It is unclear whether the separate, iPad-only 'Words with Friends HD' will be included or not.
i dont play it nearly as much as i used to. but ill probably still pick this up. ive been waiting for a $1 price since i first downloaded it. glad i held off on the $2 sale last weekend.

Words With Friends is fantastic. Puts the EA official version of Scrabble to shame, that's for sure. Definitely worth 99 cents! You can also get the free version which is ad supported, if you aren't sure yet.

I'm contemplating whether or not it's worth trying to get an iPhone 4 tomorrow. People were lining up at the local Apple Store tonight. There were people in line around 7 PM, at least. The mall opens at 5 AM for this and the Apple Store opens at 7 AM. I wonder if getting there at 5 AM would do it. Hmmm.
does Words with Friends have single player?
No. You'll have to play with someone online. It does an awesome job of pairing you up with people though. Also, you can play multiple games at once if others are taking long.

Ok, I'd like some recommendations. I plan on buying a racing game and a soccer game. I'm downloading the demos for GT Racing and Real Soccer 2010, but I couldn't find a demo for either of the Need for Speeds or FIFA 10.

Can anyone let me know if what racing and/or soccer game they recommend or perfer?

I havent tried GT yet, but Need for Speed Undercover is great! I like the different objectives, instead of just racing cars. You have to run from cops, deliver stolen cars without getting too much damage, race against foes, etc... I am really enjoying it for $0.99

Besides... its only a buck, so if its not your thing, your only out a buck.

Just wondering, but it says pass and play. That means I can play with other people in the same room with one iPhone/Touch.

Yes, when you start a new game , one option is to play locally with a friend, you play a word, then pass the phone to your friend, then they will play a word and so on. You do not have to play online, but its a lot of fun...

Yeah, it has a local, pass-and-play mode, so if you're desperate to play alone, you can just play against yourself.

Gangstar is a great buy for .99 .... very under-rated imo. It's a GTA III rip off, but I find it more fun than Chinatown Wars in some ways

Do you have to be connected online to play? I tried setting up a game on my Touch without the wifi on and the app keeps crashing. As for playing offline, I sometimes wanna play with my friend with pass and play and theres no free wifi nearby.

But at 99 cent it doesnt hurt to try them out.

Sim-type racing I would suggest Real Racing.

Darn, just paid 1.99 for Words over the weekend. Oh well.

On a lighter note, gonna go scope out walmart in 3 hours in hopes of getting an iPhone 4...whooooo!!!

Downloaded OS 4.0, bought a ton of EA games, and now picked up Words with Friends. Been a busy few days for my iPhone.
The whole folder gimmick really cleaned up my dashboard, and will allow me to add more games to my machine without feeling bad for the clutter! I put them in genre order, then ordered games in the folders according to which I'm most likely to play.

I'm in line at the Apple Store in Columbia, Maryland... with little hope for success. The line is huge. The Apple employees don't seem to know how many they have, or they just aren't letting on. Oh well. Maybe I'll get lucky.

EDIT: I'm officially in the "there is no chance" portion of the line. Oh well.

Tried a quick ame of GT Racing. Three game modes. Career, arcade, multiplayer. I just chose arcade just to get into the action. My first thoughts. Graphics are pretty good, steering is difficult. Doesn't seem to react to well or turn enough when I turn the phone. This can probably be adjusted. At least I hope so. Othe than that it's your standard race to the finish line type game. Maybe it's just me but I like NFSU better. Better controls and more fun. I am sure I will play GT and it may get better but I would recommend you try the Lite version first. Good thing it was only $0.99.

I picked up all the .99 racing titles and so far I prefer the Need for Speed ones. NFS Shift is great if you just want a quick arcade-style race experience. I usually suck at driving games but I really like Shift. It's probably too easy for people who want more of a sim, though.

Jump Above has dropped to FREE (http://itunes.apple.com/app/jump-above/id374332697?mt=8).
"If you are bored with playing hundreds of similar platform based jumping games this one is completely different taste and challenge for you. Jump higher as you can but finding gaps, take fruits/coins, avoid bombs and power jump by rocket. Completely new idea of jumping game.

Simple and easy rule to find gaps between platforms and jump through that. Tilt your iPhone to run left or right and when you are under gap just tap to jump. Screen is moving up also and if you reach bottom of screen than you fall down and game is over."

12 apps in one folder not enough for you? Try the 50-in-1 App Dragon, currently FREE (http://itunes.apple.com/app/app-dragon-50in1/id373002183?mt=8).

iTankster is also FREE for a limited time (http://appshopper.com/games/itankster-addictive-tank-game).
"iTankster is simple yet hugely addictive tank game in which players must destroy the enemy skull to collect Crystal; before the enemy tanks destroy your castle and collect the flag. iTankster is an action filled tank game for iPhone and iPod Touch that is wickedly addictive. Stop the enemy from blowing up your castle and collect the flag. It sounds easy but as more and more tanks and enemies attach, you will need strategy, skill, and luck to win."

grabbed NOVA, NFS:Shift, Brothers in Arms 2, FIFA 10, as well as Words with Friends. Great Sale!

Although EA is evil and jacked the prices up for the people who just got their new phones.
Has anybody seen a sale on itunes cards this week?
Best bet is to use gamestop credit obtained by flipping, they sell cards in store so, that in general makes then 30-50% off for me based upon how well I've been playing nice with the flipping gods.

Had you done a reserve in advance, or were you just trying your luck? I've got multiple emails from Apple saying that my reserve (placed from the Apple Store iPhone app on the day they started taking orders) will be held for me until close of business today, and I'm planning to go after work. I'm wondering how likely it is that I've actually got a phone waiting for me, or how likely it is that I'll leave angry. I'm skeptical, but I just didn't want to deal with the lines this morning.

Just FYI. Shift is automatically set at the easiest skill level. If you go into settings and change it to Professional, it will play like a sim and is much, much harder.

I had not thought of that. Not a bad idea.

No wonder I came in First! Thanks for the info; I'll be sure not to change the settings on this first go round. I really enjoy driving much more than crashing. I should probably look into dialing down the difficulty on my other racers as well. Something akin to "monkey" level would be a good start for me . . .
Those rat bastards raised the price of the need for speed games already!

Doh!
It was a 48 hour sale that was announced on Monday...

I know it's my own fault, but ea's been having blowout sales every other week it seems so I'll jump on it then.

Or maybe I could play one of the hundreds of other iPhone games I have...

See my previous posts about my pre-order. I had a pre-order. Then I had *2* pre-orders because AT&T decided I completed an order with them even though I never succeeded. Then I had 1 pre-order after I got the AT&T order canceled. Then I had no pre-orders because Apple's attempt to authorize my upgrade failed... but I still had a new 2 year contract! Finally I had no new contract, but also no iPhone 4 pre-order. :( Oh well. I put in a new order today. Not going to ship until July 14th, though.

Not exactly on-topic, but I was the first to pre-order at my local Best Buy. I got a call yesterday to setup a 7:30am appointment and picked it up this morning without issue. I've not yet fired up any games on it, but when I do, I'll post here if anything jumps out at me as performing way better. Overall, really pleased with it so far.

mine is out for delivery... still waiting. my brother said it seems fragile. any case recommendations for the 4 yet? I'm gonna see what best buy has, apple store will be too crowded and over priced.

Fragile? No. Not even close. After holding my 4 and then picking up my 3G, the 3G feels like a plasticy, bubbly piece of shit. Seriously. The iPhone 4 feels weighty and solid in your hand compared to the older iphones. The surfaces of the 3G are very sub par in comparison. I have a full ZAGG on my 4 and feel its more than sufficient. Its also the only thing I had on my 3G.

My wife on the other hand....she is getting an otterbox
