This is a continuation of this previous thread. Since it reached 5,000+ posts making a new thread is easier to read through.

Post any deals you find, recommendations, requests for deals, etc. Please keep things as civil as possible. There's no such thing as a bad deal post and reviews are opinions. :)

Apple iPhone & iPod Touch games in the App store are constantly going on sale. While I originally posted games and prices in this post, it's become almost impossible to keep up with it all. Feel free to post in this topic on good deals and games you enjoy. Developers are also encouraged to join in, especially if they are running promos or sales.

If you want to check out a particular game, try the following review sites, or ask in here so fellow CAG's can assist you.

App & Game Review Sites

Important Notes:

  1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iPod\iPhone. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.
  2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.
  3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday.
  4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.
  5. Make sure to backup your purchases in iTunes to CD/DVD for safe keeping. You can do this by clicking File-->Library-->Backup to Disc. Then choose all purchases, applications only, and full or incremental backup. How often is up to you, but I do this monthly, or more often if I buy a lot of apps.
  6. Apps can be redownloaded without incurring an extra charge if you previously purchased it. This is good if you have a crash and forget to backup your purchases. I don't know if this is a permanent feature so backing up regularly is still important.
  7. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores, receiving cards as gifts, etc are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.
  8. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE, or check the iTunes Store support site. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.
  9. If you somehow break your iPhone or iPod Touch, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try these sites for do it yourself replacement parts & fixes.
iFixit Touch Repair Guide ; iFixit iPhone Repair Guide ; TechRestore
  10. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Two come in a pack, average price I've seen is $20. They have an Ebay Store that might save you a few bucks.

Enclave Soldier wasn't the artist so you don't have to ask his/her permission... that background was a crop of somebody else's work (probably an artist at EA). You can get a bigger image to work with here: http://media.photobucket.com/image/...inatort850/wallpaper_mirrors_edge_04_1600.jpg

Found that after a quick Google image search. A larger version probably exists if you search for it.

The sequel to Hook Champ should be coming soon :D

Meteor Blitz is really good, although it borrows heavily from Super Stardust HD on PS3 (actually it's more or less a clone of that game) definitely worth a buck

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the freebie. I'm downloading the full thing while it's still on sale.

BlockFighter II: Egyptian Edition has dropped from $1.99 to FREE (http://itunes.apple.com/app/blockfighter-ii-egyptian-edition/id359328519?mt=8). Kind of sounds like Super Puzzle Fighter II with an Egyptian theme:

Think you're a smartguy (or girl)? Try Sole. The marble puzzler is still FREE and it claims it's "not for people with an IQ less than 150." (http://appshopper.com/games/sole)

"Sole is a unique and challenging marble puzzle game that requires you to think before you make a move. Challenge your mind with this unique game of marbles that you have never seen before. Sole is simple to understand – slide marbles left-right and up-down on the board to destroy other marbles until only one marble is left. How far can you get, can you get to level 50?

With thousands of variations you will never play the same game twice, included is an intelligent random board generator that can build a game with 3 marbles all the way up to 15 marbles on the board. As you progress through the game the challenge will build and more marbles will be placed on the board for you to solve. To add to the difficulty you have a set amount of time to solve each puzzle, don’t hesitate too long; if time runs out you will have to restart the game from the beginning. Alternatively, progress through levels and earn extra lives to replay levels when you lose. With an online score board and infinite puzzles to play, Sole is sure to give you unlimited replay and a great challenge to show how intelligent you really are. Post your scores online with our integrated score board to allow others around the world to observe who the real genius is."

Yep, you're right. That was a short sale. I picked it up when I first saw it this morning; didn't think they'd be changing the price within a couple of hours. This isn't the same, but how about an intergalactic air hockey game instead? iSmashem Galactic is currently FREE (http://itunes.apple.com/app/ismashem-galactic/id353586627?mt=8).

"The time has come for You to prove that You have what it takes to be the grand champion of the galactic "iSmashem" tournament !
Enter the arena and battle it out against opponents from six different star systems in classic one-on-one shufflepuck gameplay !
You would never believe what dirty tricks they use to win !
But You are better, aren't You ?
Fast and dynamic gameplay, along with quirky characters and animations make "iSmashem Galactic" the perfect game for Your ever growing app collection.
A game for everyone !"

Blockfighter II is a pretty bad Tetris clone at that. I don't get the "fight" aspect at all. Oh well, that's okay. It's already off my device.

Free App a Day is featuring the card game Solitaire City Classic (http://itunes.apple.com/app/solitaire-city-classic/id340141710?mt=8).

"Solitaire City™ Classic is now a Universal App! Buy once and play it on both iPad and iPhone with enhanced high resolution graphics when played on an iPad. This is the classic version of Solitaire that most people know and love. It’s the version that ships with Windows and is also known as Klondike or just simply Patience. Solitaire City™ Classic contains six variations of this extremely popular solitaire game including Deal 1, Deal 3 and Vegas scoring. Solitaire City’s drag and drop controls are incredibly easy to use and the silky smooth card animations, particle effects and sound effects supply countless hours of fun. What makes Solitaire City so popular though is the timed scoring system. The faster you complete a game, the higher your score. You’ll play long into the night trying to add a few points to your best score and see your name in lights on top of the hi-score tables. The timer can also be turned off by those who prefer not to compete and simply wish to play a nice relaxing game of solitaire."

Didn't see it posted in the last 4 pages, but Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is $4.99 which is 1/2 off. Should be a good buy for anyone that loved it back on the PS2/N64.
Solitaire City is a fantastic Solitaire App
Does it have "tap once to do the obvious move"? If not then it stays on the shelf.

Monster mayhem is a good buy at 99 cents I played it through once and liked it. I don't really like the new knife update though, but it is a pretty fun game.

Epic Pet Wars is an extremely basic copy of Pokemon's battle system. It doesn't have any adventure part though.

This seems to play fine on my 2G touch with OS 3.

A very promising game actually, my left thumb is hurt so I was playing without it and I actually could still control the game fairly well (there are a lot of games I can't play with both my thumbs). It looks good but it has a bare, tech demo type feel.

One major update (I fear a DLC update) and it could become a really great game. It looks fantastic and I like the pace of the game (not that frantic, which can be frustrating on the not-so great iPhone controls).
