Ok, I just don't know what the hell is this. But I heard some people said that this product can stop your PS2's lens from scratching your disc.

Unlike most new ps2 today, the older model has more difficult time reading the disc. Thus, it try to move close to the disc to read it better. However, that will make them touch the disc physically. I myself have a stupid PS2 that ruin my XenoSaga disc (thanks dual layer!). So anyone know if this product work?

uhm... i can see what that does, and it is just felt where the plastic of the dvd rom is so that it doesn't scratch, which i have never heard of happening in the first place, but you never know.

hhhhmmmmm, then how is my XenoSaga got a perfect circular mark on the disc? My PS2 only does that to my XS game, not other game though. Thanks dual layer.

ps: Since I'm not going to get another Disc, if someday my XS can't play because of those mark. Can I resurface the disc?

They have these things called d_Skin skins at my Gamestop, basically all it is is a proection on the data side of the disc and it like "locks" it into place. It's hard to explain, but every Gamestop should have a demo copy. But then again...you can always just put games back in the cases...idiots.

I've seen something like this before.. basically it moves the disk up just a hair to keep the lens from hitting the disk.. it usually only becomes a problem if the lens has come out of adjustment. Also works to just take two small pieces of scotch tape and put one on either side of the center hole.

sounds like just another retarded product, people will put out anything to make money....but i guess if u seriously do have a problem with ur ps2 u might need it although ive never heard about this problem (the disc goes up and down?).

please people!! research!! the lens move side to side only!!!!! u know how expensive it would be to have the lens move in 4 directions??? obviously you have problems with your ps2, and probably the spinning think is broken or distorted. you can buy a replacement off of almost any 3rd party online gaming store. installation requires soldering.

as for the thing they sell at game stop. its crap. it jus a film that goes over your disc. if your lens are scratching your disc, then it will jus scratch the film. BTW if your lens scratched your disc, your lens is probable shaq-fu'ed up already. the best way to fix your disc, is to find a company that can re-stamp your disc. you can buy the kit (includes disc envelope + proof of purchase) that you send to the factory, its usually around $5-10 and you can find it at fye or record chains. what they do is shave off the whole bottom of the disc, and reapply it with a new bottom(plastic part) because all the data is stored on the top.

or you can ghetto it and buy a disc dr. almost the same concept, but its do it your self. it resurfaces the disc, and cost around $20-30, if the scratch is really deep, you will need to resurface the entire disc untill the scratch is gone, which makes you disc thinner. catch my drift? that'll probably fix your lens touching disc problem too. but it makes ugly swirls on the bottom of the disc (which is normal, the ps2 can still read it)

so, the choice is yours.

I notice with the older model PS@ if you play it vertically it scratched them, light scratches but scratches all the same.

my dad works at Sony in Japan so he gets all their stuff early so I'm already playing this which doesn't come out till 2015. By the way I'm playing "Super Mario Brothers Moonlight" game on it because Sony bought out Nintendo but that isn't going to happen till 2008, so shhhhh, don't tell anyone.

Yes, I'm bored and it's hot as hell affecting my thinking.

Same thing happened to me, but only with my old xbox. It kept making funny noises and circular scratches started appearing on my xbox games. After a while I got a new one.

lol ur sooo dumb.....talk about research? how bout you open up the ps2 urself.....the lense doesnt go side to side at all it "only" goes up and down...any1 who has fixed a "disk read error" by themselvs knos this...and this cricular scrath i got the same shit on my madden 08 just last week sent it to gamezone witch sent it somwhere else and came bac yesterday brand new for 8$

WOW!!! Talk about bumping an old ass thread. Anyway, I had a PS2 do this to my Red Dead Revolver and San Andreas(AO version) discs, so I've seen it happen.

Sadly, I think the system itself can self adjust the lens high enough to cause scratching in a ring pattern TO occur. However, many times this may also be the result of a poorly done height adjustment on the system.

And actually, the laser slides back and forth on rails AND up and down, so it does technically adjust in 4 directions.

I'm just glad my local game shop has a resurfacing machine or two and does it at their shop for $2 a disc, which saves me shipping them out or taking them even further down the line to Gamecrazy to have them done for about the same price per disc.

Never heard of a PS2 scratching disc. Then again, I never had a single issue with my PS2 (most reliable console I ever owned, and I have the original one).

Well, of course, I should also mention I bought this one to just 'tinker' with from a used shop here. It had no warranty seal AT ALL on the back of it and the thing looked like someone exploded a dust bomb inside it before I cleaned it all up.

I think whoever owned it must've tried the height adjustment of the laser and ended up putting it up TOO high or must've knocked the laser out of alignment somehow, since that thing made this God awful noise and you could HEAR it scratching the discs.

I later on found a set of wires for it and some beat ass controller(that barely worked) and traded it into a local Gamestop for about $90-95 in credit.

Thing is, I think I only paid around $10-15 for it originally.

QFT. I played over 2500+ hours on my ps2 network adapter model, I never experience any problems except some disc reading problems on very rare occasions.

I hate when this happens it is so annoying I dont even buy ps2 games because of this, the games only last me a month, all I am doing is opening the games case popping in the game and playing it. A month later, !!! It wont work!
